Huge fire, ‘multiple explosions' heard near former Royal Air Force airfield
A large fire has broken out at the site of a former RAF base in Oxfordshire, with witnesses reporting loud explosions and thick black smoke billowing from the site.
Some 10 fire and rescue crews are tackling the blaze in Bicester, which has prompted a major response and warnings for local residents to stay indoors.
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: '10 fire and rescue crews are currently attending an ongoing serious incident at Bicester Motion from 18:39 this evening. 'We would advise people to avoid the area, and for local residents to remain indoors and shut all windows until further notice.'

A South Central Ambulance Service spokesperson said: 'We were called at 18.57 this evening to reports of a serious incident at Bicester Motion. 'We sent a robust command structure to support staff and are currently on scene as the incident is ongoing.'
Local councillor Sam Holland said the blaze is at Bicester Motion, a historic motoring and aviation centre situated on the former airbase. It is home to more than 50 specialist businesses focused on classic car restoration and engineering.

'I saw it (the fire) from a distance,' Mr Holland told the PA news agency. 'There's lots of emergency vehicles. 'Bicester Motion were meeting there earlier. I had spoken to someone as they were leaving.
"I hope there is nobody hurt or worse.' Historic England claim the iconic airfield is 'the most complete and strongly representative example of an RAF airbase' in Britain. Bicester Motion said in a statement: 'Further to the incident, emergency services have been called and are attending on-site.
'We appreciate the concern from local residents and wish to communicate that the company is working with the emergency services. At their direction the site will be closed today and over the weekend. A further statement will be made as appropriate.'
Oxfordshire County Council said the nearby Buckingham Road, Skimmingdish Lane, the A4421 and the A4095 were all closed until further notice, with likely 'delays and disruption to journeys in and around Bicester'.
A social media user shared images of massive black plumes of smoke coming from the site – adding they had heard 'multiple explosions'. Kieran McGurk, a product director who lives opposite Bicester Motion – formerly known as Bicester Heritage – said he heard 'multiple bangs' and saw a plume of smoke while out walking.
He told PA: 'As we walked home and got closer to the smoke it seemed to get blacker and we heard the sirens. 'Multiple fire engines and police cars went past us and as we got to the corner at the bottom of the road ash started to fall and you could see the sheer scale of what was happening.
'Loud bangs have been constantly going off and multiple helicopters are still circling the site.' The cause of the fire is not yet known.

The secret of Ashada Navaratri: 9 Devis and the 9 flowers offered to them
A female has the infinite capacity, patience, and courage to endure pain to create life itself. It is easy to imagine the creator as a mother, a woman known as Aadi Parashakti (Supreme feminine energy) in Sanatan Dharma. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The divine mother Did you know that the word 'Amma,' meaning mother in many Indian languages, traces its roots back to the Sanskrit 'Amba,' a reference to the Divine Mother? The creator-preserver of the world, she is unmistakably Ma Jagadamba. In a year, four periods are dedicated to Devi worship. Spread across nine days and nights, they are commonly known as Navratri. Apart from the popular Sharadiya (October) and Chaitra (April) Navaratri, there are two more periods of Navratri when the Mother Goddess (and her forms) are prayed to and invoked secretly. These are Magh Navratri (Jan-Feb) and the upcoming Ashadha Navaratri (June-July). Seeking blessings with flowers Devotees find different ways of expressing their love and devotion to Mother Divine. One of them is offering flowers. Devi Bhagavatam suggests offering Devi Ma's favourite flowers along with other Puja Samagri (ingredients). In the verses of Lalita Sahasranama Stotram, we come across a beautiful description of Mother Divine, adorned with Indian flora, such as ashoka, champaka, punnaga, and saugandhika (Verse 4) While scriptures do not recommend any particular day-wise order, flower- offering is popular during Navratri. Let's look at which flowers are offered traditionally on the nine days. Day 1: Devi Shailputri (the daughter of the mountain, Himavan) is worshipped with the hibiscus flower on the first day. Day 2: Devi Brahmacharini (the ascetic form of Ma Parvati) is honoured with White Brahmi, white chrysanthemums, and shevanti flowers. Day 3: This is the day of Devi Chandraghanta, the married form of Ma Parvati. She is offered pink lotus flowers. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Day 4: Devi Kushmanda (the bearer of the cosmic egg of creation) is worshipped with jasmine and ashoka flowers and white lotus buds. Day 5: Devi Skandamata (the mother of Skanda or Lord Kartik) is offered roses. Day 6: Devi Katyayani (the slayer of demon Mahishasura) is worshipped and offered Kaner (yellow oleander) and marigold flowers. Day 7: Devi Kalaratri, the fiercest form of Ma Durga, is offered Krishna kamal (passiflora), Aparajita, and Jaba Kusum (red hibiscus). Day 8: Devi Mahagauri is worshipped with malati flowers and mogra (Arabian Jasmine). Day 9: The last day is dedicated to Devi Siddhidatri (the bestower of boons). Devotees offer parijat (night jasmine), palash (Flame of the forest flower), and champa (frangipani) flowers to seek her blessings. The power of Ashadha Navratri Navratris fall at the turn of seasonal change; at this time, our bodies also undergo inner transformation. Ashadha Navaratri, observed in the Krishna Paksha (dark lunar fortnight) of June-July coincides with the onset of the monsoon season. Allergies are at their peak, and our immune system is trying to adjust to weather changes. The profound wisdom of our culture lies in tying the Navaratri period with physical and mental detox. Observing fasts or shifting to a sattvic diet prepares our body, while Sadhana and spiritual practices prepare our mind. Ashadha Navaratri is a very auspicious time for devotees to invoke Mother Divine and enhance their power of sadhana. During this spiritually charged period, they can worship the nine forms of Ma Aadi Parashakti (Primordial Goddess), Ma Durga and receive Her blessings through the Navdurga Sadhana. Joy Turns Into Grief: Soon-To-Be-Parents Were On Doomed London Flight
Vaibhav Patel (29) and Jinal Goswami (27) were soon going to be parents to their first child. Jinal was seven months pregnant, and the final couple of months were nothing less than a mix of excitement and anxiety. The couple's families also couldn't wait to celebrate and welcome a new member onboard. There was a strong urge to prepare the nest for the little one's arrival. On June 2, they celebrated Jinal's baby shower with a traditional ceremony and intimate gathering. But their joy soon turned into grief. On Monday, Vaibhav and Jinal were cremated amid hue and cry. The couple were among the 274 victims of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12. They belonged to Keliya Vasna village of Dholka tehsil but lived in London and even recently moved to Southampton in Hampshire. They had travelled to Ahmedabad for Jinal's baby shower and were scheduled to return to London via flight AI 171 that ultimately crashed minutes after take-off. Friends and relatives close to the two families said a baby shower was held for Jinal on June 2, with a traditional ceremony and an intimate gathering, comprising close friends and relatives. The anxious long days of never ending wait was soon to be over. The couple's close friend Nirav Patel told the BBC that they were very happy and excited for the birth of their first child. "Vaibhav did not have a father, so he was the big son supporting the family back in India," he said. "He had rung me two days before the flight to tell me he was coming home. We were very good friends and had so much fun together... many trips around India, like to Goa or Rajasthan. This is a massive loss," he added. Only an idol of Lord Krishna, which friends and families claimed was held by Jinal at the time of the flight, has so far been recovered from the crash site. There were 242 people - 230 passengers, two pilots and 10 crew members - onboard the aircraft that crashed into a medical college seconds after taking off for London Gatwick Airport from Ahmedabad. Of these, only one - an Indian-origin British national - survived the crash. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among the victims. Several people on the ground were also killed in the incident.
