Monsoon at Delhi's doorstep, onset likely in two days says IMD
The southwest monsoon is set to advance into Delhi and neighbourhood areas during the next two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday. If realised, the monsoon will arrive earlier than the normal date of June 29. Last year, the onset over the national capital was marked on June 28. This year, Delhi will not experience heatwave condition in June and overall, the month has recorded only seven days when the maximum temperatures crossed 40 degree Celsius mark. The hottest day (43.9 degree Celsisu) of this month was recorded on June 12. The IMD said, ' Conditions are favourbale for the further advance of the southwest monsoon into more parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, some parts of Haryana, Chandugarh, Delhi and cover the rest of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Jannu in the next two days.' Maintaining its steady and early advances since the onset this year over Kerala on May 24, the southwest monsoon Sunday progressed into most parts of Himachal Pradesh, covered all of Ladakh and Kashmir, most parts of Jammu and entered Punjab. With the latest advancement, the northern limit of monsoon passed through Jaipur, Agra, Rampur, Dehradun, Shimla, Pathankot and Jammu. This year, the monsoon progress has been swift since the onset, except a brief lull during May 29 – June 15. It had arrived over the Andaman Sea on May 13 — early by a week. A low pressure lies over central Uttar Pradesh and this system is expected to move northwestwards and further weaken by Monday. In this view, the IMD has warned of an enhanced rainfall over central and eastern India regions till Friday. Extremely heavy rainfall ( over 200mm in 24 hours) over eastern Madhya Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan during Monday and Tuesday. Heavy rainfall is forecast over Bihar and Jharkhand till June 25, over Odisha, West Bengal and Sikkim during June 24 – 27. Very heavy rainfall ( 115 to 204mm in 24 hours) is expected over Sikkim, West Bengal and Bihar on Monday, over Odisha on June 25 and 26 and over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat till June 28. Over northeast India, heavy rainfall (64 -115mm in 24 hours) will continue till Tuesday with spells expected over Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, where exceptionally high spells were recorded last week. Kerala and Mahe in southern India will receive heavy rainfall all of this week and sea conditions will remain rough with strong surface winds along the coasts of Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh, the IMD said.

Southwest monsoon to hit Delhi and parts of North India by June 24, says IMD
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said that the southwest monsoon is likely to reach Delhi, Chandigarh and parts of Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir in the next two days, i.e. by June 24, adding that the conditions are favourable for further advancement of southwest monsoons. The weather department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over northwest India, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa.(PTI) The weather department added that the southwest monsoon has advanced over most parts of Himachal Pradesh, the entire Ladakh and Kashmir, most parts of Jammu, and some parts of Punjab. As per the IMD, "The southwest monsoon has advanced further over most parts of Himachal Pradesh, the entire Ladakh and Kashmir, most parts of Jammu, and some parts of Punjab." "Conditions are favourable for the Southwest monsoon to advance further over the remaining parts of the North Arabian Sea, some more parts of Rajasthan and Punjab, some parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, and the remaining parts of West Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu during the next two days," it added. The weather department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over northwest India, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Konkan and Goa during June 22 - 26 with isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Gujarat on June 22 and over Madhya Pradesh on June 23-24 respectively. The IMD added that heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to continue over Northeast India during next 3 days and isolated heavy rainfall thereafter for subsequent 4 days. According to the IMD, in the last 24 hours, as of 8.30 am on June 22, heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded at some places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places over eastern Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat. It added that heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Bihar, West Uttar Pradesh, eastern Rajasthan; heavy rainfall at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, Uttarakhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, western Rajasthan, western Madhya Pradesh, Konkan and Goa,coastal Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. Thunderstorm accompanied with squally/gusty winds with speed 60-120 kmph at isolated places over Marathawada; 40-60 kmph at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal were also recorded.
