Tributes pour in for IGP's mother for counselling son to retire from police force after 43 years of service

CYNICAL or otherwise, such is the reaction of netizens to a slew of news reports on Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain choosing not to extend his contract to fulfil the wishes of his 86-year-old mother, Rahmah Abdul Rahman.
As such, Razarudin, 62, who was made the IGP under the Madani government on June 23, 2023 will step down on June 22 with the final marching-out ceremony scheduled for June 20 (he had in fact reached his retirement age of 60 when he replaced Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani as Malaysia's 14th IGP).
The Dengkil (Selangor)-born Razarudin had joined the police force on Dec 27, 1982 as probationary inspector at the age of 19.
With a tinge of sarcasm, many netizens felt that it would be best for the nation's top cop to bow out 'than to get involved in matters that're beyond his control'.
'He has already held high positions, already obtained a high rank, hence what else is there to chase after especially by forcing himself to follow other people's whims and fancies? Congratulations, on your retirement, Mr IGP,' penned one of the more sensible comments.
Others are less forgiving as they reckoned that Razarudin who was appointed as the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director for a year before becoming the Deputy IGP in 2021 has under-achieved throughout his two-year tenure.
The Madani government, too, received its fair share of rebuttal, probably by pro-opposition detractors with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim accused of having manipulated PDRM (Royal Malaysia Police).
Moreover, PMX was said to have previously insulted the police institution at the height of the Reformasi movement after he was stripped of his deputy PM post in 1998.
In all frankness, many trolling was too 'heinous' to publish as they truly diverted from the norm of politely wishing someone in Razarudin's situation a 'Happy Retirement'.
Imagine being reminded 'don't forget to first investigate who's the mastermind who put the drugs and toy pistol in Yusoff Rawther's car before you retire'.
For the record, Rafique Rashid Ali, the lawyer of Yusoff who was the former research assistant of PMX had on June 13 given Razarudin seven days to respond to a police report Yusoff lodged in September 2024 which named individuals he alleged were involved in a plot against him (Yusoff).

'We await a response from you within seven days from today. Should there be no reply or should the response fail to adequately address the issues raised herein, we reserve our client's right to pursue further legal action,' read the letter by the Law Practice of Rafique.
Yusoff was acquitted on June 12 by the Kuala Lumpur High Court of drug trafficking and possession of two imitation pistols after having spent nine months and 10 days in remand. – June 16, 2025

Kepong drug bust nets 70kg ganja, two in custody

KUALA LUMPUR: Two men were arrested while some 73.25kg of ganja were seized following a raid in Kepong here. Based on intelligence gathered, Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) personnel intercepted the suspects' vehicle in Jalan Baiduri and detained the two locals, aged 38 and 33, at about 1.25am on Tuesday. Bukit Aman NCID acting director Deputy Comm Mat Zani @Mohd Salahuddin Che Ali said the raiding team uncovered 70 compressed packages containing ganja, weighing 73.25kg, after a thorough search of the vehicle. 'We believe the street value of the seized drugs is RM227,063. It has the potential to feed the habit of 146,492 drug users if distributed,' he said in a statement yesterday. Initial investigations revealed that the ganja was smuggled from a neighbouring country through the Perlis border and was intended for distribution in the Klang Valley, he said. The suspects are believed to have acted as 'transporters' for the syndicate and have been active since early this year. 'Both suspects tested negative for drugs. However, background checks revealed extensive criminal records,' he added. DCP Mat Zani said the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment, along with at least 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. 'We have also taken action under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988, seizing two pairs of gold earrings valued at RM1,950. 'This brings the total value of the seizure and confiscated items to RM229,013,' he said, adding that both suspects had been remanded for seven days. 'This successful operation highlights the commitment of the NCID in combating the country's number one enemy – drug abuse. 'We urge the public to relay any information regarding drug-related activities via the NCID hotline at 012-208 7222,' he added. Separately, four drug traffickers were arrested following raids in the Sepang district. Sepang OCPD Asst Comm Norhizam Bahaman said the suspects, three men and a woman, aged between 27 and 39, were detained on Wednesday. 'We seized various drugs worth RM36,500. 'All suspects were from the same village and they have been friends since they were little,' he told a press conference yesterday. 'We believe the suspects were transporters for the syndicate, which has been active since 2016. They were paid RM1,600 for each successful transport of drugs,' he said. ACP Norhizam said the group managed to evade the police previously as they used rented cars to deliver the contraband and stayed in different budget hotels while en route to their destinations. 'The male suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine while the female suspect tested negative for drugs. 'Two of the suspects have criminal records,' he said.

PDRM's terrorism response garners global recognition

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysia Police's (PDRM) capability in tackling terrorism threats has not only been recognised at the regional level but also by global powers such as the United States, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. He said this was evident in the trust placed by the US in PDRM's expertise to carry out the rehabilitation of two Malaysian detainees previously held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. 'This shows that in this particular case, the PDRM's Special Branch possesses expertise and competence that convinced a major power like the United States. 'It means we can stand as equals in efforts to address terrorism threats so they do not pose a danger within our own country,' he said during the handover ceremony of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) post at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) here today. Media reports previously stated that the US had repatriated two Malaysian citizens in December 2024, after they had been detained at Guantanamo Bay for 18 years. The two individuals involved, Mohammed Farik Amin, 49, and Mohammed Nazir Lep, 48, are currently undergoing a comprehensive rehabilitation process that includes social support services, welfare assistance, and health screening before being reunited with their families. Saifuddin said it was crucial for the country to have a capable IGP, such as the 14th IGP Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, who played a key role in the repatriation of the two men. He praised Razarudin's composure when engaging with various US agencies, including the CIA and FBI, in resolving the matter. Meanwhile, Saifuddin stressed that the appointment of an IGP was not an award but a responsibility and burden that must be shouldered with full accountability. He said this was because the IGP was not only accountable to the nation but also to the entire police force under his leadership. Earlier at the ceremony, Bukit Aman Special Branch director Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail was officially appointed as the 15th IGP, succeeding Razarudin, effective today. The handover ceremony was witnessed by Saifuddin and attended by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and senior PDRM officers.
