After the Brize Norton attack, Britain should be placed on a war footing

Many were astonished recently at Russia's inability to defend its military aircraft when Ukraine carried out drone strikes against them deep inside Russian territory. Well now the inadequacy of our own air base security has been exposed, although thankfully in a far less serious way. For now. RAF Brize Norton was attacked not by external forces but the enemy within. This was not a protest; it was a deliberate act of sabotage against military assets used to defend our country. What is shocking is that these saboteurs were able to access a highly defended base, put two air to air refuelling tankers out of action, and leave without being detected. That should not have happened at any time. But right now military bases should have been on a substantially heightened state of alert. Whether or not we are providing any assistance to Israel in its defensive operations against Iran, Tehran certainly believes we are. They see us as a key ally of Israel and also attribute to Britain a disproportionate level of influence over US actions. We are therefore a high priority target for Iranian terrorism. Don't forget only weeks ago seven Iranians were arrested here on allegations of preparing terrorist attacks and other security offences. And in 2015 our security service disrupted an Iranian-backed bomb plot on the outskirts of London. The threat from Tehran has significantly increased since the latest arrests, with Iran under attack and the ayatollahs desperate to find effective ways of hitting back at Israel and its allies. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has long positioned sleeper cells in European countries including the UK for precisely the situation they find themselves in now. This was a known specific threat back in the early 2000s, when I was working for the UK Joint Intelligence Committee. We don't know exactly their capabilities but it would be irresponsible not to assume that terrorist attacks in Britain could be initiated from Tehran at any time. The fact that the British Government has repeatedly refused to proscribe the IRGC as a terrorist organisation suggests a dangerous degree of complacency. That should have happened a long time ago and certainly should happen now. Beyond the very real and immediate threat from Iran there is Russia. Putin has identified Britain as its number one enemy in Europe. We have led the way in supporting Ukraine both economically and militarily. British intelligence and surveillance have been a critical element of Kyiv's operations against Russia. Donated British tanks and other armoured vehicles are in Ukraine now and our long range missiles have been used to attack Russian forces both inside Ukraine and on Russian sovereign territory. Furthermore, like Iran, Putin has previously ordered terrorist strikes on UK soil, including a nerve agent attack in Salisbury in 2018. Since then suspected Russian sabotage has been suspected here and cyber attacks carried out against government and private sector targets. Security, even of military bases, can never be 100 per cent; but this penetration of RAF Brize Norton by the Palestine Action activists, brazen enough to cross the airfield on electric scooters, shows the most serious shortcomings. What if they had been armed not with paint but explosives? Those planes could have been destroyed, not temporarily disabled, and airmen could have been killed. What we have seen amounts to an open invitation to even more serious saboteurs and terrorists to attack. The threat is going to get worse, not only from Iran and Russia, but also from people here who hate our country and want to cause us harm. The thousands of illegal immigrants pouring in on small boats, with no way to screen, document or control them, adds yet another dimension. All of Britain's military bases, as well as other critical targets, should immediately be placed on a war footing, where they should have been at least since we started supporting Ukraine and even more so since Iran came under attack.

British Airways flight crew mistakenly booked into sex dungeon for layover

Twelve members of British Airways staff were booked into the wrong hotel in Milan by bosses and were met with bondage cages, human dog cages and leather harnesses A British flight crew who had a stopover in Italy were accidentally booked into a pay-by-the-hour seedy sex dungeon, complete with vagina-shaped spa baths and mirrored ceilings. Twelve members of British Airways staff were supposed to be booked into the Motel in Milan, but were instead checked into the nearby Hotel, also in the Italian city, by bosses. The crew turned up and were met with bondage cages, human dog cages and leather harnesses, instead of the normal clean sheets and hotel toiletries. ‌ The airline workers were reportedly stepped down from their next flight, having not had enough sleep, after putting up with moans and groans from other patrons of the establishment. They were allowed to rest in a more suitable hotel before returning to their scheduled flights. ‌ A source told the Sun: "It was a comical mistake by the hotel booking team, but had serious implications. Some of the team who stayed in the sex dungeon didn't get any sleep, so they couldn't operate on BA services the following day. They were kept awake by thrillseekers moaning and groaning all day and night. 'Staff reported constant noise, and witnessed 'drug deals and prostitution', as well as a '24-hour orgy. There were adult workers outside propositioning staff. Crew even reported suspicious fluids in their rooms which made their skin crawl.' A British Airline spokeswoman said: 'A small number of crew were moved to unapproved hotel rooms due to availability issues with our usual provider, without our knowledge. We are urgently investigating to prevent a repeat.'

Mum-of-four dies after dose of powerful pain killer following boob job surgery

Mother-of-four Helen Comin, 50, died after she was wrongly given a potent painkiller after a boob implant procedure at a private clinic in Italy A mum-of-four tragically died after she was wrongly given a dose of powerful painkillers after a boob implant. Helen Comin, 50, had undergone plastic surgery at a private clinic in Italy but suffered a huge heart attack after she was given a potent painkiller by medics. The mum underwent what was meant to be simple breast surgery- to switch her old implants with new ones. The situation turned tragic when she suffered from a cardiac arrest just an hour after the operation. She was rushed into intensive care at the San Giacomo Hospital, where she had undergone the op, in Castelfranco Veneto, around 47km north of Venice. ‌ ‌ Helen underwent her boob procedure on September 5, 2024, but sadly died five days later. It has since emerged that while she was still under general anaesthetic, Helen was given a dose of the potent painkiller Sufentanil. The morphine-like drugs crashed her respiratory system and triggered her fatal cardiac arrest, according to prosecutors. Experts say the drug should never be given until a patient's system is clear from anaesthetic. The owner of the clinic, Surgeon Antonio Di Vincenzo, and an anaesthetist, Fabio Toffoletto, have both been identified as manslaughter suspects by prosecutors in Treviso. They are accused of wrongly using the morphine-like painkiller and providing negligent post-op care. Mysteriously all medical evidence of the drug being administered to Helen had disappeared from the clinic's records. Investigators only discovered it had been used when they reportedly reviewed a recorded phone call from a nurse to the clinic. The investigation into her tragic death will continue. A young British woman lost her life after she went abroad to have boob surgery. Donna Butterfield, 30, died after she travelled to Majorca, Spain, for a budget cosmetic procedure. The hairdresser and aspiring model paid £6,000 for the operation at a clinic but she went into cardiac arrest during the op. The 30-year-old was rushed to hospital but tragically died. She was in intensive care for almost two weeks before she passed away. A friend described well-travelled Donna as "an amazing beautiful person taken too soon." A close family member added: "We'll never get over it, we just have to learn to live with it." A mum of two young boys, Megan Espinoza, died during a botched plastic surgery operation. The 36-year-old went to Divino Surgery Center in Bonita, California, for a breast augmentation procedure just before Christmas 2018. Prosecutors said the mum-of-two was given anaesthesia by nurse Heather Vass, who was not licensed to do so. During the operation, the patient, who was a nursery teacher, went into cardiac arrest at around 2.20pm on December 19, 2018. However, Dr Carlos Chacon, who was performing the surgery, delayed contacting the emergency services for three hours, instead calling in other doctors for advice while he left the room to see four other patients between 3.15pm and 5pm.
