Simhachalam gears up for Giri Pradakshina
Visakhapatnam: Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple Executive Officer Vendra Trinadha Rao instructed the officials to make elaborate arrangements for Giri Pradakshina scheduled on July 9.
At a meeting held with the temple officials here on Friday, he discussed facilities to be provided to the devotees participating in the Giri Pradakshina.
The EO instructed the officials to make arrangements as lakhs of devotees are likely to participate in Giri Pradakshina observed annually on Aashada Pournami. He instructed Executive Engineer Bandaru Rambabu to coordinate with GVMC, police, and medical departments to facilitate required amenities for devotees. Donors and voluntary organisations will also be involved in the festival to serve devotees. Further, the EO stated that steps should be taken to set up Devasthanam's stalls around the hill.
During the meeting, the officials briefed the EO that the GVMC is take up sanitation maintenance and set up mobile toilets at various locations. Also, discussions will be held with GVMC officials regarding streetlights and drinking water facilities.
The temple officials mentioned that Giri Pradakshina that commences from Tholipavancha at the downhill will reach Simhachalam via Old Adavivaram, Mudasarlova, Hanumanthavaka, Akkayyapalem, Muralinagar, NAD Kotha Road, and Prahaladapuram. Soon, a coordination meeting will be held to discuss security arrangements to be made for the festival with the involvement of crime and traffic ACPs of the police department, including Kancharapalem, Gopalapatnam and other police stations.
Devasthanam stanacharyulu TP Raja Gopal, Special Deputy Collector Geetanjali, AEOs Ramana Murthy, N Anand Kumar and Pilla Srinivasa Rao, AE Tataji, and staff participated in the meeting.

1 2 Visakhapatnam: GVMC commissioner Ketan Garg assumed charge on Saturday and emphasised that sanitation and beautification would be given top priority. Speaking to the media, Garg said that essential public infrastructure, including drinking water, street lighting, drainages, and roads, would be prioritised. "With the cooperation of all stakeholders, efforts would be made to secure the highest national ranking for Visakhapatnam in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan drive and GVMC would extend all support to the proposed metro and flyover projects in the city," he said. "Vacant lands in the city would be developed in an aesthetically pleasing manner. Parks and junctions would be improved and made accessible to the public. "In light of the monsoon season, action will be taken to remove waste from major canals, and seasonal surveys will be conducted to monitor the spread of diseases such as malaria and dengue. Ketan Garg assumes charge as GVMC Commissioner
The 2018 batch IAS officer, Ketan Garg, assumed charge as the Commissioner of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) on Saturday. His appointment ends a four-month vacancy in the position, which had remained unfilled since the transfer of P. Sampath Kumar by the State Government in January. In the interim, District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad had been handling the additional responsibilities of the post. After assuming charge at the office, Mr. Ketan Garg said that sanitation and beautification would be given top priority in the city. Interacting with the media, Mr. Garg said that providing essential civic infrastructure such as drinking water supply, street lighting, drainage systems, and road maintenance would also be given importance. He said he would strive to take forward the development by coordinating with corporators and public elected representatives. He assured that funds from GVMC, the State, and the Central governments would be utilised effectively for the development of the city. He said that the corporation will extend complete support to government flagship projects like proposed metro rail and flyover which are in various stages. Mr. Ketan Garg said that he would prepare plans to make Visakhapatnam cleanest city in the country as part of preparation for the coming Swachh Survekshan, with cooperation from all stakeholders. He said that steps would be taken for development of parks and junctions. With the monsoon season round the corner, measures would be implemented to clear waste from major drains. To tackle mosquito-borne diseases, seasonal surveys will be conducted to monitor and prevent diseases like malaria and dengue. When asked about defunct CCTV cameras, he said that the CCTV aspect would be managed jointly with the Police department. He also expressed interest in collaborating with other cities to develop 'Sister City' partnerships. The previous posting of Mr. Garg was Commissioner of Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation.

Arrangements for IYD reviewed by MA&UD officials
Visakhapatnam: Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department S. Suresh Kumar instructed Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation officials to provide necessary arrangements for the 11th International Day of Yoga programme scheduled on June 21. Examining the arrangements made for the IYD here on Thursday, he emphasised that basic amenities must be provided to the public without any disruption. Along with Director of Municipal Administration P Sampath Kumar, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg, and other GVMC officials, Suresh Kumar visited RK Beach and inspected the main yoga venue and surrounding areas, including The Park Hotel, Tenneti Park, Sagar Nagar (Seethakonda), A1 Grand, Thimmapuram, etc. He reviewed the arrangements for drinking water, public toilets, sanitation, and lighting management. The Principal Secretary directed the officials to ensure cleanliness across the city. He instructed them to provide continuous water supply and maintain toilets clean. Chief Medical Officer Naresh Kumar, Supervising Engineer Krishna Rao and KVN Ravi were present.
