Social media reacts to LSU baseball winning the national championship vs. Coastal Carolina
The 2025 national championship is headed back to Baton Rouge as LSU baseball held on late to defeat Coastal Carolina 5-3 in game two of the College World Series finals.
The Tigers went undefeated in Omaha to claim their eighth national title in program history. They rode shutdown pitching performances from Kade Anderson and Anthony Eyanson, as well as their top relievers inside Charles Schwab Stadium.
Eyanson went 6.1 innings, surrendering three runs on two homers, with nine strikeouts on 99 pitches. Chase Shores ended a stellar postseason showing by earning the save, accumulating four strikeouts through 2.2 innings, holding the Chanticleers scoreless as they tried to mount a late-game comeback.
LSU went down by one in the bottom of the second but tied the game in the third and took the lead for good in the fourth. Ethan Frey came up big once again out of the two-hole, totaling three hits and one RBI. Derek Curiel and Chris Stanfield finished with two RBI apiece.

Former LSU gymnast Livvy Dunne spent a few days in Omaha watching the Tigers and celebrated their national championship.
LSU football offensive coordinator Joe Sloan and defensive coordinator Blake Baker as well as head coach Brian Kelly posted their support for the team throughout the College World Series. It appears the program watched the game from the indoor practice field in Baton Rouge.
Head coach Jay Johnson made history in his own right by guiding the Tigers to the national championship for the second time during his tenure.
Former LSU fullback and 2007 national champion Jacob Hester showed support for the Tigers. Their eight national championships are the second most in the country, behind USC's 12.

Auburn projected to land commitment from 2026 four-star edge Jaquez Wilkes
The Auburn Tigers need some positive news with their 2026 recruiting class. On Sunday, Auburn lost its commitment from four-star linebacker Shadarius Toodle when he flipped to rival Georgia. Auburn now has the No. 62 class for 2026 per 247Sports. There was good news, though. On3's Jeffrey Lee has predicted that the Tigers will get a commitment from four-star edge rusher Jaquez Wilkes. The confidence level in that prediction is currently at 60%. Wilkes is one of the best players of the 2026 recruiting class. He is an in-state prospect from Wadley, Alabama. He is ranked 10th at his position nationally, and No. 88 overall. Also, Wilkes is rated No. 6 in Alabama. He was a key player for the Wadley Bulldogs to win the AHSAA 1A State Championship in 2024. They defeated Maplesville in convincing fashion 37-7. 247Sports' Cooper Petagna evaluated Wilkes as a player who should be able to translate to the next level due to his size, speed, and athleticism. Advertisement The Tigers currently only have six players committed to the 2026 class. Auburn also has a commitment from four-star edge rusher Hezekiah Harrison from Jemison, Alabama. In 2026, the Tigers could be looking to replace edge rusher Keldric Faulk. Therefore, it will be a position of need for Auburn. Faulk is being projected as a first-round draft pick by many draft experts for the 2026 NFL Draft. With recent developments in recruiting, the Tigers need a big commitment to get back on track. National champion LSU Tigers pack punch offensively, but they hang hats on pitching under Johnson
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — During its rise as a national power in the 1990s, LSU built its identity on prodigious home run numbers, a style coined 'Gorilla Ball.' The game changed over the decades, and so did the Tigers. They still have plenty of offense, but pitching is the name of the game in the bayou nowadays. LSU's pitching prowess was omnipresent in the College World Series as the Tigers won their second national championship in three years with a two-game sweep of Coastal Carolina in the finals. The Tigers posted a CWS-best 2.60 ERA over five games, and opponents batted .205 and just .145 with runners in scoring position. Most Outstanding Player Kade Anderson, who threw a three-hit shutout in Game 1 of the finals, had an 0.56 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 16 innings over two starts. Anthony Eyanson turned in a strong start in Sunday's 5-3 win in Game 2, striking out nine over 6 1/3 innings. Chase Shores made four relief appearances, earned two saves and retired seven of the Chanticleers' last eight batters in the title-clinching win. 'If you're a pitcher and you don't want to come here right now, you're out to lunch,' Tigers coach Jay Johnson said. 'You're not thinking clearly, because that's three dudes that pitched in the series that are all going to be in the major leagues within 18 months.' The 2023 championship team had one of the most potent offenses in the country with Dylan Crews and Tommy White, but it didn't overshadow the pitching staff. Paul Skenes, the CWS Most Outstanding Player, was the No. 1 pick in the MLB amateur draft, right ahead of Crews. Ty Floyd, the Tigers' No. 2 starter, also was a first-rounder. Since 2022, Johnson's first season at LSU, 18 of the Tigers' 26 draft picks have been pitchers. That includes two of four in 2022, eight of 13 in 2023 and eight of nine in 2024. Three of the four LSU players listed among 's top 85 prospects for next month's draft are pitchers. Anderson's performances in Omaha could put him in line to be the second No. 1 overall pick in three years for LSU. The Tigers have maintained consistency on the mound even though they've had three pitching coaches in four years. The first was Jason Kelly, who left to become head coach at Washington. Wes Johnson was in charge in 2023 and left to become head coach at Georgia. Nate Yeskie just finished his second year after being hired away from Texas A&M. 'He always says he's coaching us for the player he thinks we're going to be rather than the player we are right now,' Shores said. 'So just holding us to the higher standard just allows us to go out there and just work really hard and do our job.' Johnson said he was happy Shores was on the mound when LSU locked down the championship. The 6-foot-8, 252-pound right-hander was a weekend starter to open 2023 and injured his right arm six weeks into the season. He had Tommy John surgery and missed the entire 2024 season. He was throwing 100 mph as he closed out Coastal Carolina on Sunday. 'He had to go through the 18-month recovery rehab and persevered through all of that,' Johnson said. 'And there's nobody I would have rather had finish the game tonight for the second national championship than Chase Shores.' Shores originally pledged to Oklahoma State before flipping to LSU three years ago. Johnson laid out a plan for him and told him he would make a run at a national championship if he went to LSU. Shores won two. 'Coach Johnson just made me feel wanted,' he said. 'He was persistent in the way he was recruiting me. The 2025 Men's College World Series ended on Sunday with LSU winning its second national championship in the past three seasons. The Tigers also earned a crucial win elsewhere in Omaha, Neb., once again dominating the competition in the Rocco's Jell-O shot challenge. LSU beat out the competition by nearly 43,000 shots, though fellow MCWS finalist Coastal Carolina did finish in second with 9,117. Arkansas was the third of the eight fan bases in Omaha to crack the 9,000 mark, downing 9,075 shots. Advertisement When Rocco's Pizza and Cantina posted the final results on Sunday night, LSU finished with 52,390 shots. That fell well short of the record 68,888 Jell-O shots set in 2023. But Tigers fans now hold the top two marks in the contest's six-year history. As the second fan base competing for a national championshp, Coastal Carolina did rally from fourth place as of Friday night to finish second, going from 7,509 shots to 9,117. While that number should increase during the finals, Rocco's Pizza and Cantina — which hosts the competition each year — didn't expect to see a ton of movement on its board Thursday or Friday with no games scheduled. LSU finished off a two-game sweep with a 5-3 win on Sunday, led by Derek Curiel and Chris Stanfield each driving in two runs, while pitcher Anthony Eyanson notched nine strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. The Tigers won Game 1, 1-0, behind a dominant performance from pitcher Kade Anderson, who threw eight scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts. Tigers fans gave themselves an opportunity to top that mark with their team in the 2025 College World Series finals, but the record seems untouchable. Yet the school can't be counted out for future seasons. Even if a new record wasn't set in 2025, LSU has a young team that could return to Omaha next year and beyond. You can bet Tigers fans will do their best to dominate the leaderboard and pursue a record with each College World Series visit.
