Civil Aviation Authority condemns Yemen Airways' Aden Branch decision to reject tickets issued in Sana'a

Saba Yemen31-05-2025

Sana'a - SABA:
The General Authority of Civil Aviation and Meteorology has strongly condemned the recent directive issued by the Aden-based management of Yemen Airways, which prohibits accepting tickets issued in the capital, Sana'a, or making any changes or confirmations to such bookings. The directive also threatens legal accountability for any violations.
In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), the Authority declared the directive to be in clear violation of civil aviation laws and a blatant infringement on the rights of Yemeni citizens.
The statement emphasized that those most affected by this decision are patients stranded abroad who are already facing dire economic and living conditions, making it difficult for them to purchase new tickets. It further asserted that internal administrative disputes within the airline should not be resolved at the expense of ordinary citizens, especially considering that Yemen Airways is the only national carrier and is collectively owned by the Yemeni people.
The Authority called on the airline's management in Aden to uphold its national and legal responsibilities and not to become a tool for enacting retaliatory policies that harm the interests and dignity of Yemenis.
The Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority urged the Aden branch of Yemen Airways to immediately rescind this directive unconditionally and to separate public service from internal conflicts. It also called for urgent measures to ensure the continuity of aviation services for all Yemenis without discrimination.

114 International Organizations urge EU to suspend partnership with Israel

Brussels – SABA: A total of 114 international civil society organizations, including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, called on the European Union on Monday to suspend its Association Agreement with Israel due to its commission of genocide against Palestinians and other serious violations. In a joint statement issued ahead of the EU foreign ministers' meeting—scheduled to review the suspension of the agreement—the organizations asserted that an honest review must conclude that Israel has seriously breached the agreement's human rights clause. Claudio Francavilla, Deputy Director of Human Rights Watch's EU office, said in a press statement that dialogue with Israel has largely failed, and that pro-Palestine protests have continued across Europe for months, fueled by harrowing scenes widely shared on social media showing atrocities and brutality in Gaza. Francavilla stressed that the review of the partnership agreement would be meaningless without real consequences, including suspending the trade component of the agreement. He also noted that Israeli human rights groups have documented that only around 3% of crimes committed in the West Bank are prosecuted, highlighting a serious lack of judicial accountability in Israel. The EU-Israel Association Agreement, which entered into force in 2000, serves as the legal framework for political dialogue and economic cooperation between the two sides. Article 2 of the agreement conditions the partnership on a commitment to human rights and international law. With continued U.S. and European support, Israel has been carrying out a campaign in Gaza since October 7, 2023, that has resulted in the deaths of 55,998 Palestinians, mostly children and women, and the injury of 131,559 others, according to the latest incomplete tolls. Thousands of victims remain trapped under rubble or in unreachable areas. Whatsapp Telegram Email Print more of (International)

Israel Intercepts Missile Amid Iranian Confirmation of Launch from Yemen

Israeli military announced the interception of a missile early Monday, initially believed to have been launched from Iran. However, Iranian state media later confirmed that the missile had in fact been fired from Yemeni territory, adding a new layer of complexity to the ongoing regional conflict. The missile was intercepted before breaching Israeli airspace, triggering air raid sirens across central Israel and prompting temporary lockdowns in several cities. IDF stated that the projectile was neutralized by its multi-layered air defense system, without causing any casualties or damage. Iran's confirmation that the missile originated from Yemen aligns with previous threats issued by Houthi forces, who have vowed to expand their attacks in response to Israeli military actions in Gaza. Houthis claimed responsibility for multiple missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and U.S. naval assets in the Red Sea since late 2023. This latest incident comes amid a broader escalation following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian military and nuclear infrastructure, prompting fears of a wider regional war.

Washington: Closing Strait of "Hormuz" Will Spark Major Economic Crisis

Washington - (Saba): US Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged China on Monday to use its influence to persuade Iran not to close the Strait of Hormuz in response to the recent US strikes targeting Iranian nuclear sites. In an interview with Fox News, Rubio said that Beijing relies heavily on the Strait of Hormuz to secure its oil supplies, stressing the importance of China's intervention to prevent Tehran from taking a step that could lead to the closure of this vital waterway. Rubio warned that closing the strait would be a "grave mistake" and "economic suicide" for Iran. He emphasized that the United States has multiple options for dealing with this scenario, but stressed that it is not limited to Washington's response alone, but requires a response from other countries that may be more affected. Meanwhile, Ali Akbar Velayati, an advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, announced that the bases used by US forces to launch attacks on Iranian nuclear sites "will be considered legitimate targets," reflecting an escalation in Iranian rhetoric. China, along with Russia, North Korea, and a number of Arab countries, joined in condemning the US attacks, describing them as escalating tensions in the Middle East. Whatsapp Telegram Email Print
