KL Strike Force to combat vape-based drug abuse among youths
KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa has directed the KL Strike Force to conduct a comprehensive study and take immediate action to tackle drug abuse, particularly involving the misuse of vaping devices to distribute illicit substances.
She said the threat was becoming increasingly concerning, as it had begun to spread among the younger generation, including schoolchildren.
"As such, I have directed that the issue be studied and addressed in a comprehensive and coordinated manner without delay.
"Follow-up action will be led by the KL Strike Force with the active involvement of enforcement agencies, educational institutions, local communities, and public health experts," she said in a statement on Facebook last night.
Dr Zaliha, who is also the KL Strike Force chairman, said the approach would encompass enforcement, prevention, rehabilitation, and public education.
The KL Strike Force is a special unit that operates in an integrated manner and comprises various agencies, including the police, the Immigration Department, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, and the Customs Department.
Commenting on the overall security situation in the Federal Territories, Dr Zaliha said it remained stable and under control but reminded the public not to be complacent.
"The peace we enjoy today must be preserved through consistent commitment, swift response, and strong inter-agency cooperation.
"Security reflects the strength of society and the effectiveness of the policies in place. Our ability to address the root causes of social ills forms the foundation of a more resilient city," she said.
She also expressed appreciation to all security agencies, enforcement teams, and local authorities for their strong commitment in safeguarding the security of the Federal Territories.
Earlier, Dr Zaliha chaired the Federal Territory State Security Committee meeting, which serves as a key platform for security and enforcement agencies in the Federal Territories.
The meeting aimed to provide a comprehensive overview and discuss the current security situation in the Federal Territories, including assessments of the National Security Index, urban crime trends, and emerging challenges that require more comprehensive action.– BERNAMA

For William, he was sentenced to six years in jail plus 10 strokes of the cane for having 34.29gm of syabu at 10pm on June 10, 2024 by the roadside in Kg Entilibon, Tongod, Kinabatangan. Filipino, Indonesian illegals jailed

Kota Kinabalu: Thirteen illegal immigrants comprising Filipinos and Indonesians were jailed four months each. Aesimal Landu, Al paisal Abdullah, Azlan Husin Asidin, Esam Ayudin, Omar Abdul Salleh, Radzmil Umad, Rian Zulkifli, Sadri Landu, Sarah Indang, Albinar Julasdi, Sitti Yalin Julasdi, Parak Baki and Nurjima Salimuddin, aged 22 and 50, all pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain, to entering the State without their valid documents. The illegal immigrants were arrested by the Immigration team who carried out operation in Papar, Tenom, Kota Belud, Kota Marudu and Kudat in May this year. During the operation, they failed to produce their identification documents to the Immigration personnel. In asking for leniency, they informed the court that they had stayed in the State without documents for several months and years and worked as labourers, carpenters and farmers. After completing their jail sentence, all of them were ordered referred to the Immigration Department for further action. Empowering Women Key To Driving ASEAN's Sheconomy
KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 (Bernama) -- A whole-of-society approach is needed to empower women across all sectors, including governance, urban planning and the digital economy to unlock the full potential of the 'sheconomy' and drive inclusive, sustainable development in ASEAN, said Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif. She said women must not only be included in decision-making spaces but also be recognised as key architects of change especially in city-level transformation where daily life is most affected. 'The 'sheconomy' is not a parallel economy. It is a reimagining of our whole economy, powered by inclusion and inclusion is not charity; it is good policy,' she said. She said during the plenary session titled 'ASEAN Women Leading Social Change: Integrating Social Goals with Economic Growth in the 'Sheconomy', at the Women Economic Forum (WEF) ASEAN 2025 here today. Maimunah who is also a former executive director of UN-Habitat, stressed the importance of embedding gender equity into the fabric of urban governance, budgeting and service delivery. She noted that this aligns with the ASEAN Gender Mainstreaming Strategic Framework 2021-2025 and Kuala Lumpur is localising the framework to the governance tool by ensuring housing, transport and public health policies serve women. Maimunah also shared initiatives by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) through the Safe City Programme which includes the installation of 10,000 CCTVs and improved street lighting. 'These efforts are not just about safety, but about dignity and inclusion. We are creating safer zones, better transit and walkable neighbourhoods centred on women's mobility. In 2024, crime dropped by 15 per cent in the upgraded areas and women reported feeling safer,' she said. Despite progress, she pointed only 10 per cent of local councils in Malaysia are led by women, calling the need to localise gender mainstreaming efforts at all levels of government.
