About 8.5 lakh applications received in Revenue Sadassus and 60% of them resolved: Minister Ponguleti

Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said the Congress government was systematically cleansing the revenue system that was plagued by corruption and mismanagement during the decade-long BRS rule. Speaking at a review meeting with officials on Saturday, the Minister stated that the recently concluded State-wide revenue sessions have ushered in a new era of transparency in land administration. Stating that the outreach was extensive, the Minister revealed that 10,725 revenue sessions were conducted in three phases across 593 mandals, during which a total of 8.58 lakh applications related to land issues were received. In the first phase (April 17 to 30), 72 revenue sessions across 4 mandals were held and 12,000 applications were received. In Phase-2 (from May 5), 414 sessions across 28 mandals were held and 46,000 applications were received. In the last phase (June 3 to 20), 10,239 sessions were held across 561 mandals and 8 lakh applications were received. The highest applications were received in Khammam (67,000) followed by Bhadradri Kothagudem (61,000), Warangal (54,000), Jayashankar Bhupalapalli (48,000) and Nalgonda (42,000). The Minister noted that more than 60% of issues, excluding those involving title complexities, have already been resolved, reflecting the responsive nature of the new system introduced by the government. He said special efforts were made to make the process accessible and transparent. On the eve of each revenue conference, free application forms were distributed to farmers in villages. Special MRO-led teams received applications without collecting any fees and provided receipts on the spot. Out of the total received, 3.27 lakh applications have already been digitised and registered online. The Minister alleged that the revenue system, once destroyed and paralysed by political negligence, was now being rebuilt with the trust of the people. The implementation of the Bhu Bharati Act was launched on April 14 by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

Japan scraps US meeting after Washington demands more defence spending

Japan has canceled an annual high-level meeting with key ally the United States after the Trump administration demanded it spend more on defence, the Financial Times reported on Friday. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of defence Pete Hegseth had been expected to meet Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya and defence Minister Gen Nakatani in Washington on July 1 for the yearly 2+2 security talks. But Tokyo scrapped the meeting after the US asked Japan to boost defence spending to 3.5 per cent of gross domestic product, higher than an earlier request of 3 per cent, the newspaper said, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter. A US official who asked not to be identified told Reuters that Japan had "postponed" the talks in a decision made several weeks ago. The official did not cite a reason. A non-government source familiar with the issue said he had also heard Japan had pulled out of the meeting but not the reason for it doing so. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said she had no comment on the FT report when asked about it at a regular briefing. The Pentagon also had no immediate comment. Japan's embassy in Washington did not respond to a request for comment. The nation's defence ministry and the Prime Minister's Office did not answer phone calls seeking comment outside business hours on Saturday. The FT said the higher spending demand was made in recent weeks by Elbridge Colby, the third-most senior Pentagon official, who has also recently upset another key US ally in the Indo-Pacific by launching a review of a project to provide Australia with nuclear-powered submarines. In March, Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said that other nations do not decide Japan's defence budget, after Colby called for Tokyo to spend more to counter China in his nomination hearing to be under secretary of defence for policy. Japan and other US allies have been engaged in difficult trade talks with the United States over President Trump's worldwide tariff offensive. The FT said the decision to cancel the July 1 meeting was also related to Japan's July 20 upper house elections, expected to be a major test for Ishiba's minority coalition government. Japan's move on the 2+2 comes ahead of a meeting of the US-led NATO alliance in Europe next week, at which Trump is expected to press his demand that European allies boost their defence spending to 5 per cent of GDP.

Samsung confirms Galaxy Buds Core launching soon in India, possibly before Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7

Samsung has all but confirmed the impending launch of its new wireless earphones, the Galaxy Buds Core, in India. The South Korean tech giant's social media teasers, featuring the tagline 'let the music move you to the core,' cleverly hint at the name, which has been circulating in rumours for some time. This once again proves how hard it is to maintain product secrecy in the current era. Support pages for the Galaxy Buds Core recently went live in various markets, including India. The earphones have also been spotted on the Bureau of India Standards (BIS) website, a crucial certification for electronics launched in the country. Samsung has now teased the release on X (formerly Twitter) with a post stating, "Brace yourself! The music is about to hit harder. Feel every note, every drop, every beat – louder, clearer, deeper. Dropping soon!" advertisementThe accompanying product silhouette in the teaser offers a clear look at the Galaxy Buds Core's design. The charging case appears strikingly similar to the existing Galaxy Buds 3, while the earbuds themselves seem to adopt a styling akin to the Galaxy Buds FE, suggesting a stem-less design. This would be a return to Samsung's more compact, utilitarian aesthetic seen in most of its earphones before the recent Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro, which introduced a stem layout. However, earlier rumours had suggested a stem design for the Buds Core, so we'll have to wait and watch on the final form factor. The Galaxy Buds Core are widely expected to succeed the 2023 Galaxy Buds FE, positioning them as a more affordable alternative to the Galaxy Buds 3. It's currently unclear if a separate Galaxy Buds FE 2 will also be released. Speculation suggests the Core earphones will feature a larger battery for improved longevity, along with enhancements in audio quality and active noise cancellation (ANC) capabilities. With Samsung's official announcement, more details, including the exact launch timeline, are expected anytime now. Considering the "FE" history, the launch of the long-rumored Galaxy S25 FE might also be on the horizon. This new announcement also confirms a busy summer for Samsung, with the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, rumored for July 9, set to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, and potentially an even more affordable Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. Stay tuned for further updates.
