Moment British teenager is punched to the ground by bouncer after smashing a bottle in his face when he was asked to leave Magaluf nightclub
This is the moment a Magaluf doorman leaves a teenage British tourist on the ground with a flurry of punches after reacting to being bottled in a horror attack.
CCTV footage showed the Lithuanian bouncer exploding and using his fists to defend himself in the packed nightspot before bringing his hand to his blood-covered face and neck.
The 34-year-old was left with a gash wound needing 20 stitches according to public prosecutors, although local reports today put the number of stitches at 50.
Prosecutors had demanded a five-year prison sentence for Max Barnes, now 25, who was held on an international arrest warrant after being bailed and going AWOL following the attack.
The Brit, 19 at the time of the early-hours incident on July 31 2019, claimed after his arrest by Civil Guard officers that he had acted in self-defence by responding to a previous assault.
But yesterday he was handed an 18-month suspended prison sentence after admitting the unprovoked attack at The Plaza bar at the end of Magaluf's bustling Punta Ballena strip as part of a plea bargain deal.
Barnes, who had already paid his victim nearly £35,000 in compensation, admitted his guilt in a trial where he spoke briefly via video-conference.
Trial judges said they were taking his confession and compensation payment into account in allowing him to remain a free man as long as he doesn't reoffend.
The CCTV footage from the bar did not show the moment Barnes used a broken bottle to disfigure the doorman.
But it did show the run-up to the attack when the Lithuanian man, who was wearing a white T-shirt, could be heard arguing with the Brit after telling him he had to leave because he was misbehaving.
It also showed the doorman's reaction to being assaulted as he responded by putting Barnes on the floor in the packed bar with a series of well-aimed punches.
The Brit was held in the UK on an international arrest warrant after paying £13,000 bail to get out of prison and flying back home.
Officials in Majorca issued the arrest order after he failed to respond to court communications.
Public prosecutors said in their pre-trial indictment they had uncovered no evidence of the previous attack Barnes had alleged took place and claimed he was defending himself against.
In November 2023 a British soldier prosecuted over a glass attack on her holiday friend in a Magaluf nightclub escaped prison and was let off with a £780 fine.
Bus driver's daughter Sydney Cole was arrested when her Scots-born Lance Corporal pal Sarah Garrity was left in intensive care after losing four pints of blood and needing 14 stitches to a neck wound.
She was warned initially she could be jailed for three years after being charged with a crime of wounding by Spanish state prosecutors despite her victim's refusal to press charges.
Cole, serving in the Adjutant General's Corps based at Fort George Barracks in Inverness when the horror incident happened on April 15 2019, avoided prison after confessing to hurting Sarah as part of a plea bargain deal.
Irvine, Ayrshire-born Sarah, who was serving in the Royal Logistics Corps when she was critically injured, triggered the early release of Cole from prison days after her arrest and preventative remand in custody after telling police and court officials she did not want to press charges.
Prosecutors decided to continue trying to build a case against the accused woman after witnesses told police the attacker threw a glass directly at Sarah's neck during a row at Magaluf's Banana's nightclub following an all-day drinking session.
Cole, now 25, initially insisted after her arrest her holiday pal was hurt in an accident when she threw the glass on the floor during the fight with her and shards from it hit Sarah in the neck before striking her plea bargain deal.

'She-Hulk' bodybuilder found battered to death in suspected murder-suicide
A female bodybuilder dubbed the She-Hulk was beaten to death with a hammer by her muscleman husband in a suspected murder-suicide in a Spanish resort. Colombian weightlifting champion Zunilda Hoyos Mendez, who also went by the name Amy, was found dead Thursday afternoon in upmarket Fuengirola. Detectives said her 46-year-old partner, Jarrod Gelling, was found dead in a bathroom with 'apparent self-inflicted stab wounds.' Zunilda had been missing since last Saturday after flying to the Costa del Sol from Dubai, where the couple reportedly spent much of their time. Her relatives described Jarrod as 'aggressive' and said they believe he could have lashed out after she told him she wanted a divorce. Zunilda's niece Yuleydis told Malaga-based newspaper Sur her aunt was going to help nurse Jarrod after a knee operation before traveling to Portugal for a competition. After, she planned to head back to Colombia alone after making the decision to divorce him. 'For my aunt it was the last trip, a goodbye', niece Yuleydis said. 'She had taken the decision to split from her husband because of his aggressive behavior. 'They had broken up already once and were apart for quite a while but then got back together again to try to resolve things, although the mistreatment continued.' The couple's bodies were found just before 2pm Thursday inside a property on a residential estate called Higueron West after a gym companion of Zunilda's raised the alarm, saying he hadn't seen her since June 14. A National Police spokesman in Malaga said: 'The National Police is investigating the death of a man and woman found lifeless at a property in Fuengirola. 'In the absence of official identification of the bodies, initial inquiries are pointing to them being those of a 43-year-old woman of Colombian origin and her 46-year-old partner of American origin. 'Officers went to the property on a residential estate about 1.45pm after a friend of the woman whose body was found reported her disappearance on Wednesday at the National Police Station in Torremolinos. 'Her body showed obvious signs of violence and that of the man's signs indicating a suicide-type death which is something an autopsy will have to confirm.' Although the suspected killer was said by police to be of 'American origin' he is believed to have dual Colombian and U.S. nationality. They were not on the Spanish police radar over previous reports of domestic violence. If the woman's death is confirmed as a gender violence murder, it would be the third so far in the province of Malaga and the fifth in Southern Spain's Andalucia region this year. Earlier this month a Spanish woman was strangled on waste ground behind a gas station a short drive from Marbella. Her 47-year-old Bulgarian partner was arrested. In February a 48-year-old mom of three was allegedly killed by her 42-year-old Nigerian ex-partner in the popular Costa del Sol holiday resort of Benalmadena. Spanish news website El Espanol reported that as well as being a big name in the professional bodybuilding world, Zunilda also had more than 100,000 followers on Onlyfans and Fansly where it said she sold steamy videos as 'the naughtiest fitness girl.' She finished second in the NPC Worldwide Latin American Championships in 2021. Her coach Branden Rey said in an emotional Instagram post beside a photo of her flexing her muscles in a black bikini: 'We had 17 days until we were going to hit the stage and shock the world my friend. 'I told you that you could possibly be top 10 in the world by the end of this year and I meant it. 'Rest in paradise'. In a second post he added: 'We were so close to the end but the closest person to you ended it too soon. 'Domestic violence should never be taken lightly, because it can leave many with a heavy heart.' Bodybuilder friend and coach Behnaz Azar said in an online tribute: 'I don't know where to begin. 'My heart is broken, my mind is clouded, and my soul is drowning in shock and sorrow. 'Amy - my kind, strong, fierce friend. 'The most powerful woman I knew in the world of bodybuilding, yet with the gentlest heart. 'Your weren't just a friend, you were my sister, my teammate, my safe place. You were a part of me. 'We had dreams. Big ones. We were going to travel the world together, step onto the competition stage side by side, and chase the goals we poured our heart into. 'Now all that's left is silence, and a wound so deep I know it will never fully heal. 'The news of your murder shattered something inside me. It doesn't feel real. You didn't deserve this. No one like you ever does. 'Amy, I will carry your memory with me always, in every rep, every journey, every moment my heart aches for you. 'Until we meet again, in a world kinder than this one. Rest in peace, my shining star.'

Huge update after man was allegedly attacked by freed immigration detainee at Footscray intersection
Police are expected to lay more serious charges against a former immigration detainee after a man died following an alleged violent assault in Melbourne. Emergency services were called to the intersection of Nicholson and Paisley Streets in Footscray at around 10am last Sunday after reports of an assault. Dominic O'Brien, 62, was found with critical injuries and rushed to hospital, where his condition deteriorated over the week. He died in hospital on Saturday morning. The 62-year-old was a photographer who had previously worked in the media, according to The Age, which was one of the outlets that employed him. Police arrested 43-year-old Lominja Friday Yokoju on the same day as the incident, charging him with intentionally causing serious injury. Victoria Police said investigators will consider alternative charges following the results of a post-mortem. He has been remanded and will appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court on October 20. Mr Yokoju is accused of approaching Mr O'Brien, speaking to him briefly, before allegedly hitting him and stamping on his head while he was on the ground. The 43-year-old is believed to have been among more than 200 people released from immigration detention in late 2023 after the landmark High Court decision in NZYQ v Minister for Immigration. 116 of the men released were violent offenders, including convicted murderers. The ruling found indefinite immigration detention was unlawful where there was no realistic prospect of deportation. At the time of his arrest, Mr Yokoju was reportedly living on a bridging visa and had no fixed address. Mr Yokoju is due to appear for a committal hearing at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on October 20.
