Julie Banderas' latest children's book aims to teach critical lesson because ‘respect is at an all-time low'

Fox News29-04-2025

Julie Banderas' latest children's book, "A Monumental Mistake," teaches youngsters a valuable lesson that the Fox News anchor believes is critical because respect is at an "all-time low" in America.
"A Monumental Mistake" tells the story of Fiona the lioness, Mobi the bear, Arthur the lion, and Cassius the tiger stumbling upon a forgotten statue deep in Wiggamore Woods. The characters respond differently, with some respecting the past and others mocking it and throwing stones.
"Something happens in the book that teaches them a very hard lesson about disrespecting a monument and disrespecting history, but they also disrespected their friends by not listening to them when they told them to please stop throwing stones at this monument because it has historical value," Banderas told Fox News Digital.
"So, it was a twofold lesson: they learned to respect history, they learned to respect this historical monument, and they also learned to respect their friends in the future and not disrespect them by not listening to them and ignoring them, going on with behaving badly," Banderas continued. "And in the end, it was forgiven by General Wiggamore."
Indeed, in "A Monumental Mistake," the young animals eventually learn that respecting history is essential for protecting the future and discover why respecting authority, traditions, and those who paved the way is so critical.
It's no coincidence that a historic statue plays a key role in the book, as Banderas was inspired when historic monuments across America were removed or vandalized by liberal activists during the Biden administration.
"This is very much a politically driven and also a parent-driven book. When all of these historic monuments were being torn down under the Biden administration, a lot of people were very upset about that because it was essentially erasing history," she said.
"By erasing history doesn't make it right, we can right the wrongs by teaching our children that some things in history are not to be proud of," Banderas added. "Just because we live in America doesn't mean that we always behaved properly."
Banderas, who has three children, said her number 1 priority was to write a book about respect and to instill in children that they shouldn't have hate in their hearts.
"I feel that in America right now, respect is at an all-time low. There are protests happening because of differing opinions in wars in other countries. There are political differences that are driving families and communities apart and turning into violence. I mean, the Tesla saga, most recently with people attacking Teslas simply because they don't like the politics of Elon Musk is insanity," Banderas said.
"I feel the hatred in this country as it's also at an all-time high," she said. "My kids, they're not even allowed to say the word 'hate.' The word 'hate' is not allowed in my house."
Banderas partnered with BRAVE Books, a Christian publishing company that aims to reinforce Bible-based values. It's her second title with BRAVE Books after the 2022 title "Fina's Fantastical Fort" taught children how to persevere through hardships.
"It's a conservative Christian book publishing company that instills values and morals in their children and that's exactly what I am as a mom," she said.
While the book is meant for children, Banderas is hopeful that parents can also get something out of it.
"I think it's a good reminder for parents to teach the core values to raise well-rounded, respectable, and also children who are humble. Kids are brats. I mean, they don't take their parents seriously. They take them for granted. They don't appreciate things like I did when I was a kid. I think all of it comes down to learning and teaching respect," Banderas said.
"A Monumental Mistake" is available now.

US warplanes bombed Iran's most protected nuclear site. Trump says it was 'totally obliterated.'

President Donald Trump said US military aircraft bombed Iranian nuclear sites. His reveal early Sunday local time comes amid Israeli efforts to degrade Iran's nuclear program. Israeli forces have carried out widespread airstrikes across Iran over the past week. The direct attack on Iran marks a major escalation and takes US involvement in the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel to a new level. Trump had been weighing whether to strike Iran for days prior to this attack. "We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan,"Trump said in a Truth Social post earlier Saturday announcing the strikes. "All planes are now outside of Iran air space," he said. The strikes notably risk Iranian retaliatory attacks that could harm US forces in the region. Tehran has already threatened such a response. The president said a "full payload" of bombs was dropped on Fordow, one of Iran's main nuclear enrichment facilities. Trump described it as "the primary site." Fordow is heavily fortified, with its key facilities deep underground in a mountain. In his address to the nation, Trump called the strikes a "spectacular military success." Though the president didn't go into specifics, Fox News' Sean Hannity said in a live Saturday night broadcast that Trump told him US Air Force B-2 Spirit stealth bombers dropped six "huge" bunker-buster bombs on the Fordow site. Bunker-buster bombs are designed to penetrate and destroy hardened facilities and underground bunkers. The 30,000 GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator, or MOP, is a bunker-buster that's carried by the B-2 bomber. The weapon, the US military's largest non-nuclear bomb, is believed to be the only weapon suited for striking Iran's deepest nuclear sites. In addition to bunker-busters, Hannity said that Tomahawk cruise missiles launched from US submarines were also used against Iranian sites. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a statement posted on X, thanked Trump for the "bold decision" to strike Iran, saying " the awesome and righteous might of the United States will change history." "His leadership today has created a pivot of history that can help lead the Middle East and beyond to a future of prosperity and peace," Netanyahu said. Earlier on Saturday, multiple online open-source intelligence accounts were tracking the movement of several B-2s from their base in the US across the Pacific, with speculation that the bombers were fully loaded and potentially heading for Iran. It's unclear if these aircraft were involved. "All planes are safely on their way home," Trump said in his social media post on the strikes. "Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this." He added that "NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE! Thank you for your attention to this matter." Trump signaled in his address that additional attacks against Iran could follow if "peace does not come quickly." The bombing runs come after several days of speculation about whether the US would join Israel in striking Iran. Earlier this month, Israeli officials announced the start of a new operation aimed at degrading Iran's nuclear program, which has long been a goal of Netanyahu's. The Trump administration had favorited a diplomatic approach, trying to reach a new nuclear deal with Tehran.

Vance, Rubio to go on Sunday shows after Iran strikes

Vice President Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are slated to hit the Sunday show circuit following President Trump's decision to strike Iran. Vance is scheduled for an interview on NBC's 'Meet the Press' while Rubio is slated to appear on CBS's 'Face the Nation' and Fox News's 'Sunday Morning Futures,' the networks said. The appearances were announced Saturday night after the U.S. bombed three Iranian nuclear sites, including the Fordow nuclear site buried inside a mountain. Trump said in a post on Truth Social that 'A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow' and American aircraft had successfully exited Iranian air space. Vance and Rubio, along with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, flanked Trump as the president announced the strikes at the White House on Saturday night. 'Our objective was the destruction of Iran's nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world's number one state sponsor of terror,' Trump said. 'Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success.' Trump declared the Fordow, Natanz and Esfahan nuclear facilities 'completely and totally obliterated' and warned of more attacks if Tehran does not agree to a satisfactory peace agreement. The president did not detail specific asks or outline how negotiations could proceed following the U.S. strikes. The White House released photos of Trump, Vance, Rubio, Hegseth and others in the Situation Room during Saturday's operation. Trump has long pushed for Iran to reach a deal over its nuclear program but signaled earlier this week U.S. strikes were on the table, saying Tehran could not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon. The president said Thursday he would decide on whether to take direct action against Iran within two weeks. Saturday's strikes came a little over a week after Israel launched a broad attack on Iran, prompting the two Middle East rivals to fire a barrage of missiles at each other. Soon after Israel initially struck Iran last week, Rubio — who also serves as Trump's national security adviser — issued a statement distancing Washington from the attack, making it clear Israel had made a unilateral decision to hit the country. But within days the Trump administration more explicitly embraced the attacks on Iran as Israel bombarded Tehran and killed a series of top military officials, hollowing out Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's inner circle. 'We now have complete and total control of the skies over Iran,' Trump posted online Tuesday, while calling for 'UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER' from Iran. Vance in a lengthy social media post earlier this week detailed the thinking inside the White House as Trump gathered with his national security aides to weigh getting directly involved in the Middle East conflict. The vice president acknowledged that 'people are right to be worried about foreign entanglement after the last 25 years of idiotic foreign policy' but argued Trump 'has earned some trust on this issue.' 'And having seen this up close and personal, I can assure you that he is only interested in using the American military to accomplish American people's goals,' he said.

New Texas law requires 10 Commandments to be posted in every public school classroom

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas will require all public school classrooms to display the Ten Commandments under a new law that will make the state the nation's largest to attempt to impose such a mandate. Gov. Greg Abbott announced Saturday that he signed the bill, which is expected to draw a legal challenge from critics who consider it an unconstitutional violation of the separation of church and state. A similar law in Louisiana was blocked when a federal appeals court ruled Friday that it was unconstitutional. Arkansas also has a similar law that has been challenged in federal court. The Texas measure easily passed in the Republican-controlled state House and Senate in the legislative session that ended June 2. 'The focus of this bill is to look at what is historically important to our nation educationally and judicially,' Republican state representative Candy Noble, a co-sponsor of the bill, said when it passed the House. Abbott also signed a bill that allows school districts to provide students and staff a daily voluntary period of prayer or time to read a religious text during school hours. The Ten Commandments laws are among efforts, mainly in conservative-led states, to insert religion into public schools. Texas' law requires public schools to post in classrooms a 16-by-20-inch poster or framed copy of a specific English version of the commandments, even though translations and interpretations vary across denominations, faiths and languages and may differ in homes and houses of worship. Supporters say the Ten Commandments are part of the foundation of the United States' judicial and educational systems and should be displayed. Opponents, including some Christian and other faith leaders, say the Ten Commandments and prayer measures infringe on others' religious freedom. A letter signed this year by dozens of Christian and Jewish faith leaders opposing the bill noted that Texas has thousands of students of other faiths who might have no connection to the Ten Commandments. Texas has nearly 6 million students in about 9,100 public schools. In 2005, Abbott, who was state attorney general at the time, successfully argued before the Supreme Court that Texas could keep a Ten Commandments monument on the grounds of its Capitol. Louisiana's law has twice been ruled unconstitutional by federal courts, first by U.S. District Judge John deGravelles and then again by a three-judge panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which also considers cases from Texas. State Attorney General Liz Murrell said she would appeal and pledged to take it to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary.
