ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)Powerboat racer Alia Abdul Salam will accelerate to new success after being selected to join the Mubadala Excellence Program (MEP), a community initiative that supports talented individuals across the UAE in the field of sports, arts, culture, and innovation. As part of this milestone, Mubadala joins as the Title Partner for Alia's 2025 Formula 4 Powerboat World Championship season. Her participation marks a historic moment as the first Emirati woman to compete in the Formula 4 Powerboat World Championship, representing the UAE in upcoming international races in Sweden, Norway, and Italy. This is both a personal milestone and a meaningful reflection of the UAE's growing presence in global sport, and a proud step forward for Emirati women competing in high-performance arenas.Through the Mubadala Excellence Program, she will gain access to support that helps her pursue this passion with purpose, highlighting the programme's mission to unlock potential and foster meaningful community impact. Launched in 2021, MEP is part of Mubadala's commitment to nurturing local talent and contributing to a resilient, connected society.Alia was raised in a sports-focused environment and inspired by her father, Abdul Salam Firooz, a former champion and longtime contributor to marine motorsports. From a young age, she was drawn to the water and began carving her path in the sport, steadily breaking barriers at the local level before stepping onto the global stage. Mubadala and ADPIC partner to explore strategic collaborations
Mubadala Investment Company (Mubadala), an Abu Dhabi sovereign investor, and the Abu Dhabi Projects and Infrastructure Centre (ADPIC) have signed a partnership agreement to foster collaborations in various areas which features a comprehensive framework for cooperation between the two organisations, aimed at advancing infrastructure initiatives crucial to Abu Dhabi's development as a leading destination of choice. These include comprehensive feasibility studies, knowledge sharing, and assessments to evaluate the viability for proposed projects, as well as sharing insights to develop sustainable financing models. The agreement was signed on the first day of Abu Dhabi Infrastructure Summit (ADIS) 2025, in the presence of Maysarah Mahmoud Eid, Director-General, ADPIC and Khalifa Al Romaithi, Executive Director of UAE Real Estate at Mubadala's UAE Investments Platform. Commenting on the collaboration, Maysarah Mahmoud Eid said, 'Through our collaboration with Mubadala, we are dedicated to pioneering sustainable, high-quality projects that will promote economic growth and create lasting infrastructure developments that meet the Emirate's needs while contributing to its prosperity.' Meanwhile Mubadala, the Abu Dhabi sovereign investor, and Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (Taqa), one of the largest listed integrated utilities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa have completed the acquisition of a gas-fired power generation plant at the Talimarjan Power Complex in Uzbekistan. Mubadala and Taqa each hold a 40 per cent stake in the 875 MW TPP1 combined-cycle gas-fired plant through a newly established project company, Talimarjan Power Plant 1 LLC. Both Taqa and Mubadala also hold a 40 per cent stake in the Talimarjan Operations & Maintenance LLC (O&M), which was established to operate the plant. Uzbekistan's JSC 'Talimarjan Issiqlik Elektr Stansiyasi' (TIES) holds the remaining 20 per cent stakes in both the project company and the O&M entity. This transaction supports investments into the privatisation of Uzbekistan's power sector. It follows a strategic partnership between the Governments of Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates whereby Mubadala and Taqa will bring their global power sector expertise to the local power market in Uzbekistan. The 875 MW TPP1 plant has a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with JSC 'Uzenergosotish' (UES) (successor power purchaser to JSC 'National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan') for 25 years and plays a critical part in meeting demand for electricity in Uzbekistan as the country continues to experience rapid population and economic growth. Hammad Rahman, Head of Asia Pacific Infrastructure at Mubadala, said: 'Mubadala is committed to supporting countries across the world to meet their energy needs while reducing carbon emissions. Efficient natural gas-fired powered plants such as TPP1 will play an important part in enabling the transition to cleaner sources of energy.' 'Uzbekistan is recording a significant growth in demand for power, and Mubadala looks forward to working with Taqa and our local partner TIES to ensure communities and businesses across the country have access to reliable, affordable and secure power supply that supports progress and socioeconomic development.' Frank Possmeier, Chief Investment Officer, Generation at Taqa, said: 'Taqa is pleased to collaborate with Mubadala and TIES in acquiring this vital asset that plays a crucial role in Uzbekistan's journey towards a privatised energy sector. As a low carbon power and water champion, Taqa will leverage its extensive experience and expertise to help Uzbekistan meet its growing energy needs while continuing to invest in this critical sector. Our stake in TPP1 demonstrates progress in delivering on our 2030 targets which aim to grow our power generation capacity to 150 GW and strengthens our operation and maintenance capabilities which is also a pivotal element of our strategy. 21 June 2025 13:17 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)The Department of Community Development (DCD), in collaboration with the Presidential Court Majalis Abu Dhabi, has hosted a series of sessions for community members to raise awareness on the Medeem initiative and the Emirati Family Growth Program, sessions shed light on the objectives and successes of both initiatives, encouraging youth and soon-to-be-married couples to embrace an approach rooted in Emirati heritage—one that promotes simplicity, mutual understanding, and shared responsibility as the foundation for happy, stable sessions, which were attended by Dr Mugheer Al Khaili, Chairman of DCD, and Engineer Hamad Ali Al Dhaheri, Undersecretary of DCD, and included a series of interactive discussion sessions across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al sessions fostered direct engagement with community members, addressing their questions, gathering feedback, and sharing insights on the design and impact of both Medeem and highlighted the critical role of the sessions as open forums for meaningful dialogue where youth and families can share their experiences, including success stories from Medeem, which has empowered couples to build stable marriages with reduced financial burdens. Aligned with the Year of the Community, the department reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with partners like Majalis Abu Dhabi to deliver tailored community programmes that meet the needs of the youth and Emirati families. These efforts underscore the enduring importance of reaching diverse segments of the community across all regions of the emirate. The sessions were held at various community majalis across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, including Baniyas Majlis, Al Aliah Majlis, Mazid Majlis, Al Masoudi Majlis, and Mohammed Al Mahmoud Majlis.
