CM requests Union Govt. to sanction permissions for Hyderabad Metro Phase-II at the earliest
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has requested the Union Urban Affairs Ministry to sanction permissions for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II at the earliest.
The Chief Minister made the request to Union Urban Development Minister Manoharlal Khattar on Thursday. Mr. Revanth Reddy, who is on a visit to New Delhi, called on Mr. Khattar at his residence this afternoon.
He briefed the Union Minister about the rapid development witnessed in Greater Hyderabad and said operationalisation of Metro rail phase-II spanning 76.4 km was of utmost importance for further accelerating it. The State Government had accordingly decided to take up the second phase of the project as a joint venture with the Central Government with an estimated ₹24,269 crore.
He said putting in place Metro phase-II project would reduce traffic congestion and ensure faster travel thereby, contributing to sustained development of the city. The State Government had submitted revised detailed project report pertaining to the metro phase-II incorporating the suggestions made by the Union Urban Development Ministry and requested Mr. Khattar to extend his cooperation in securing speedy permissions from the Ministries concerned.

25 loco pilots from ER and SER set to steer city Metro from July
1 2 3 Kolkata: Metro Railway, which was reeling under an acute staff shortage, especially drivers, will be getting around 25 new motormen July onwards. Even as new lines are being added, motormen were borrowed from North-South Metro, which was already functioning with a huge personnel deficit. "Metro Railway will be getting new crew members from South-Eastern and Eastern Railway from July onwards. Initially, around 20 to 25 motormen will join to fill the vacancies. More personnel will be added gradually," a senior Metro Railway official said. Metro Railway, which runs the city's 61km rapid transit network, is set to add the 7 km Noapara-Airport (Yellow line) soon. East-West Metro (Green line) also completed its last 2.5 km leg, which will make the entire 16.6 km operational as a continuous corridor from Sector V to Howrah Maidan. The one lakh daily ridership of the disjointed Green line is expected soar to around seven lakhs passengers every day when the entire line opens up. Under the circumstances, Metro needs more motormen immediately. When the ALPs join, those functioning as the second motormen will move to take positions as the main motorman (as they are called in Metro). "The scheme has been worked out for optimum utilisation of manpower," the officer said. The last time Metro recruited directly through the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) was in 2010. In 2012, prodded by the Railway Board, the joint procedure order (JPO) was inked for lateral transfers of motormen. The crisis was less obvious before Jan 2020, when Kolkata only had the North-South Metro (New Garia-Noapara or the Blue Line).

However, Governor Rajendra Arlekar responded by asserting that there is no question of removing Bharat Mata from public spaces. 'There is no question of doing away with Bharat Mata, as we draw our idea of patriotism and nationhood from Bharat Mata,' the Raj Bhavan said in a statement, quoting the governor. On Wednesday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had also criticised the Governor for the display of a Bharat Mata portrait in his office. In a Thiruvananthapuram press briefing, Vijayan said the Governor's residence must remain neutral and should not become a platform for political propaganda. Mango trader dies of heart attack amid price crash in Kolar
Bengaluru: Mohammed Shafiulla (55), a prominent mango trader and owner of Taj Mango Mandi in Srinivasapur, Kolar district, died of a heart attack at a farm in Thotli village on Monday. Shafiulla had invested over Rs 30 lakh in advance payments to farmers in villages like Thotli and Rojenahalli and on inputs such as pesticides and labour. He had been personally overseeing mango harvesting when he collapsed after transporting a few tractor loads. His nephew, Anees Ahmed, Secretary of the Mango Traders Association, said Shafiulla was deeply distressed over the steep fall in mango prices and had recently shared concerns that he might not recover even his input costs. Anees urged the State Government to announce a support price for mangoes and provide compensation to Shafiulla's family, stating the tragedy could have been avoided with timely intervention. Chinnappa Reddy, President of the Kolar District Mango Growers Welfare Association, echoed these concerns. He emphasized that both traders and farmers are suffering due to falling prices and urged the government to act immediately to stabilize the market and support those dependent on the mango trade.
