Glenavon manager backs calls for ‘unbelievable' all-island league... but with a warning

Glenavon manager Paddy McLaughlin says he agrees with Tiernan Lynch's argument that an all-Ireland League would be 'unbelievable', but he fears any new all-island structure could seriously harm smaller, less wealthy clubs.
Derry City boss Lynch, who steered Larne to back-to-back Premiership titles and the league phase of the Uefa Conference League, expressed a desire to see both leagues work together.

£17m refusal and fan argument tells Man Utd a lot as Sancho 'swap deal' emerges

Manchester United may be able to finally offload Jadon Sancho in a swap deal that would see a top European striker with a strong personality head to Old Trafford A potential swap deal that would see Manchester United part ways with Jadon Sancho and welcome Dusan Vlahovic could be on the cards. The Englishman is expected to be sold this summer after spending the entirety of last season on loan to Chelsea, where he won the UEFA Conference League. Sancho's last game so far for the Red Devils came in the Community Shield last year, with his likely sale putting an end to what has been a hugely disappointing period for both parties. ‌ Among the possibilities of his possible departure is the 25-year-old leaving English football to join Juventus in exchange for the Serbian striker. Vlahovic, who was a prior target for Arsenal, has largely played a bench role at the Italian giants since the loan arrival of Randal Kolo-Muani in January. ‌ Reports in Italy have said that the club are proposing to offer the striker - who has a year left on his contract - in order to capture Sancho, who has 'not let go' of the winger since first registering interest in signing him last year, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. While Vlahovic has maintained a respectable goal-scoring record of 57 goals in 144 games, the 25-year-old has failed to replicate the devastating form in front of goal that he showed during his time at Fiorentina. He did score 16 goals across all competitions this season, which is just one less than Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee managed combined. On top of his superiority as a scorer ahead of their forward options, the Premier League giants will certainly be buoyed by reports from Corriere dello Sport that Vlahovic turned down a mammoth offer worth £17million a year from Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr earlier this year. Not yet in his prime, the decision to remain in a top European league will come as a positive sign to United chiefs about the desire the Serb has to accomplish honours at the highest level rather than taking a cash grab. A player devoted to his club and team-mates is certainly a sought-after attribute and it's one Vlahovic displayed last season during a trying time for Juventus. ‌ After a fourth consecutive Serie A draw where his side could only muster up a 2-2 draw against Venezia, the Juve players, as per tradition, walked over to the fans under the Curva to thank them for their support. However, the feeling wasn't mutual. The supporters hurled insults and disrespectful chants at the players, which Vlahovic didn't take too kindly to as he shouted back at the fans. According to Sky Sport Italia, despite the players walking away, the fans continued with the insults, which prompted the striker to turn to them and gesture a sarcastic thumbs-up at them. ‌ While it's never healthy for a player to argue with their own fans, it shows United that Vlahovic isn't afraid to speak his mind and will stand up for his teammates when he feels it is necessary. Adding such a strong personality to the dressing room could have both positive and negative effects, and Ruben Amorim will no doubt be taking a lot of different factors into consideration as he continues his search for more reinforcements this summer, including a new striker. Amorim has so far overseen the arrival of one new signing this summer in Matheus Cunha, who they bought for £62.5m from Wolves. While interest remains in Bryan Mbeumo and Viktor Gyokeres, United are said to face competition for the attackers from Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, respectively. After months of talks, the Gers announced at the end of May that it had all gone through, heralding the start of a new era for the Light Blues. Cavenagh was immediately installed as the club's new chairman with 49ers chief Paraag Marathe - who's also the Leeds United chairman - taking up the position of vice-chairman. The big changes continued with Kevin Thelwell quickly beginning work as sporting director before Russell Martin arrived as head coach the week after the takeover was officially done. Martin is working with the Gers squad for the first time today with the players back for pre-season training. With plenty of change in and around the club, fans are now keen to see new players come in the door sooner rather than later. And now, a big step forward to that becoming a reality has been confirmed. For the first time since taking the helm, Cavenagh and Marathe are in Scotland. They've headed for Glasgow where Rangers have been holding an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) this morning at the Double Tree by Hilton hotel in the city centre. The meeting saw several key resolutions voted on by the club's shareholders. Rangers captain James Tavernier spotted training with ex-team-mate and old Premiership rival Ryan Porteous who branded him 'bad loser' The biggest of those was to ratify the proposed £20million injection into the club. Immediately after the takeover was sealed, the new owners stated their intention to invest the £20m immediately and launch a new share issue - subject to shareholder approval. Top of the agenda, the resolution has been passed, alongside a second resolution that was directly linked to it. It means new boss Martin will now have the funds available to add to his squad. Time is of the essence in terms of squad strengthening with the Champions League qualifiers getting underway in a month's time. Rangers will take on Panathiniakos in the second qualifying round. The rubber-stamping of the investment wasn't the only thing on the agenda, however. One of the other resolutions voted on was to ratify Rangers' switch from PLC (public limited company) to a private limited company (LTD). Since 2012, the club have been operating as 'The Rangers International Football Club PLC.' Going forward, it will now be known as 'Rangers International Football Club Limited.' The shift to a limited company sees a change in the business structure and essentially gives the new owners an additional layer of control. It also means that any new shares cannot be offered publicly going forward. All resolutons passed with over 98% approval.
