Heartbreaking new details emerge in death of Anne Burrell at age 55

Daily Mail15 hours ago

Heartbreaking new details surrounding the passing of celebrity chef Anne Burrell have now emerged.
Law enforcement sources told TMZ that Burrell was found unresponsive and lying on the shower floor by her husband Stuart Claxton early Tuesday morning.
Claxton reportedly last saw his wife alive at approximately 1AM the night prior before discovering her unconscious between six to seven hours later in their bathroom.
Claxton contacted 911 and was allegedly advised by the operator to perform CPR on Burrell.
However, her body was said to be cold and it is not known if he performed CPR.
DailyMail.com has contacted representatives for Food Network and Burrell for comment but did not immediately hear back.
The beloved Food Network star — who famously hosted Secrets of a Restaurant Chef and co-hosted Worst Cooks in America — died at age 55 at her Brooklyn, New York apartment on Tuesday.
A possible cause of death has now been indicated by the 911 call, with the New York Fire Department confirming to Daily Mail that they were responding to a report of a cardiac arrest at 7.50am on Tuesday.
She was found unresponsive in her Brooklyn, New York, home by police. In a statement to Daily Mail, the New York City Police Department confirmed that they were called to an address in Brooklyn in response to a report about an 'unconscious and unresponsive' 55-year-old female.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death has not yet been reported by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner, with an investigation ongoing.
TMZ reports that EMS attempted CPR on Burrell but could not resuscitate her.
'Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered,' her family said in a statement obtained by DailyMail.com Tuesday.
'Anne's light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal,' they shared.
A Food Network spokesperson added, 'Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring.
'Our thoughts are with Anne's family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.'
The TV chef - who became synonymous with her trademark spiky platinum hair - is survived by husband Stuart Claxton, whom she wed in October 2021 in an autumn-themed ceremony and reception in her hometown of Cazenovia, New York.
She is also survived by her mother Marlene and sister Jane and her children Isabella, Amelia and Nicolas, and her brother Ben.
Anne developed a passion for cooking at a young age, inspired by her mother's home-cooked meals and by watching food icon Julia Child on television.
After earning a degree in English and Communications from Canisius College in Buffalo in 1991, she followed her culinary dreams and enrolled at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, graduating in 1996.
She worked at a whole host of New York City hotspots including Felidia and Savoy in Soho, where she honed her craft in Mediterranean cuisine.
She was later thrust into the spotlight and became best known as the longtime host of Worst Cooks in America.
The show, which ran for 28 seasons, saw celebrated chefs mentor amateur cooks in an attempt to transform them from rookies to kitchen experts.
Elsewhere, she appeared on Chef Wanted, Chopped, Food Network Star, and most recently, competition series House of Knives - which premiered in March this year.
The famed chef also penned two of her own cookbooks - Cook Like a Rock Star and Own Your Kitchen: Recipes to Inspire & Empower.
Heartbroken fans have flooded to leave comments on her most recent Instagram post that was shared just four days ago.
'This can't be true. Chef Anne you were vivacious, hilarious, full of life and reminded me of my Mom. I'm so, so sorry. Rest with the Angels in Heaven and cook up a storm for us,' one wrote.
'Prayers for your family. This feels so unexpected!
'You were always one of our all time favorite chefs and seemed like a great person! I'm sure you'll be missed by many!' someone else shared.
'RIP ANNE! I can't believe this! We lost a good one!' one wrote.
'I was such a fan of you. I had been watching Worst Cooks for YEARS and just recently started watching newer seasons.
'I am so sad. May you rest in peace,' another penned.
Gigi Hadid, who famously appeared on the cooking competition series Beat Bobby Flay with Burrell, led the celebrities expressing their heartbreak over Burrell's death.
'I am heartbroken to hear of the loss of the Great Anne Burrell,' the supermodel, 30, began.
Hadid included a photo of herself and Burrell from their time filming Beat Bobby Flay back in 2023.
'As a longtime fan, getting to share this day with her was a dream come true. Beat Bobby. Hang. Eat,' she recalled.
'I wish we could have done it again. She was awesome. Rest in Peace Legend.'
Chef Carla Hall, who previously appeared on Food Network's Top Chef, called Burrell an 'incredible cook and teacher.'
Queer Eye for the Straight Guy star Carson Kressley, who was a close friend of Burrell's, revealed that he spoke to her just days before her death.
He also shared a post to his own Instagram page which included a photo of him and Burrell.
'Rest easy, Chef Anne. I'm so blessed I was able to work with you, learn from you, laugh with you. So many memories - on screen and off - I cherish this photo of us living our best lives, as the kids say,' Kressley wrote.
'It's one of my favorite memories - just swimming in the ocean after a great lunch. Good food, good friends and lots of love and laughter all around.
'That's what I wish for you where you are now . I'll see you again someday, dear friend.'
To conclude the tribute, Kressley revealed that 'Anne loved this photo of us so I know she'd be happy I chose this one.'

Eagle-eyed fans spot blunder in Meghan Markle's latest Instagram post promoting As Ever brand

Published: Invalid Date, EAGLE-eyed royal fans have spotted a surprising blunder in Meghan Markle's latest Instagram post – despite the Duchess of Sussex being praised for her 'attention to detail'. The photo, posted on the official Instagram page of her lifestyle brand As Ever, appears to be a heartfelt thank-you to followers. 6 6 6 But the image, believed to be taken in Meghan's kitchen in Montecito, California, seems to have accidentally revealed more than intended. At first glance, the post looks polished and charming. A handwritten note sits neatly in the centre of the picture on a marble worktop, reading: 'You're beautiful. Full stop.' The note is surrounded by sprigs of thyme, two eggs, a rolling pin and scattered flour, with Meghan's hand peeking into the bottom left corner of the image. However, fans quickly noticed something that seemed out of place – a small black mouse cursor just above Meghan's hand on the left edge of the picture. The digital slip suggests the image may have been taken as a screen grab, rather than a fresh photograph. Followers took to social media to comment on the tiny detail. One user posted on Twitter: 'Eagle eye right there.' Another wrote: 'I didn't even notice that, well spotted,' as the image gained attention online. Others were excited to simply catch a glimpse behind the scenes of the Duchess's latest project – a lifestyle venture that's seen a wave of success since launching earlier this year. The cursor blunder has drawn comparisons to another royal photo mishap. Last year, the Princess of Wales came under fire for edits made to an official family photo, sparking widespread speculation and criticism. Now, Meghan's oversight has led some to call this her own 'take two' moment. It follows another incident at the start of the year when Meghan made her long-awaited return to social media. On New Year's Day, she posted a video of herself barefoot on the beach, writing '2025' in the sand. But sharp-eyed viewers spotted an earlier attempt already written nearby – suggesting the scene may have required a few takes. One follower quipped: 'Wonder how many it took to get the perfect shot?' while others noticed multiple footprints in the background that hinted at previous runs. This week's Instagram post came as Meghan launched three new items under her As Ever brand – a Napa Valley rosé wine, an apricot spread, and a limited-edition orange blossom honey. In her caption, she wrote: 'It's true. From our hearts to your homes, thank you for being here. You're the sweetest part of what we do!' The new wine is Meghan's first move into the drinks market, described by the brand as having 'soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality and a lasting finish'. The 2023 rosé will be available to buy from 1 July, just in time for summer. The new honey – priced at £21 – is said to have a 'beautiful golden hue' and 'delicate floral notes with subtle citrus undertones'. It sold out quickly, along with the apricot spread, which comes in either a keepsake jar (£10) or a standard pot (£7). The brand also brought back several items from its first collection, including raspberry spread, herbal teas, flower sprinkles and shortbread cookie mix. Most of the original items sold out within an hour of launch. Meghan originally announced the brand earlier this year under the name American Riviera Orchard, but changed it after a trademark dispute. Explaining the name switch, she said: 'Last year, I had thought, 'American Riviera', that sounds like such a great name… but it limited me to things that were just manufactured and grown in this area.' She added: 'As Ever essentially means as it's always been… If you've followed me since 2014 with The Tig, you know I've always loved cooking and crafting and gardening — this is what I do.' Now, as her followers continue to grow – with her personal account @meghan already boasting over 3.9 million – every post she shares is under the spotlight. And as this latest image proves, no detail, however small, escapes notice. 6 6

BREAKING NEWS Highly-respected baseball reporter Scott Miller dead at 62 after cancer battle

The world of baseball is in mourning following the death of legendary sportswriter Scott Miller at the age of just 62. The longtime reporter, and most recently New York Times contributor, was battling cancer and news of his death was shared on Saturday night. The news was first broken by baseball writer Bob Nightengale, who wrote: 'Baseball lost a giant. Scott Miller was a brilliant writer and an even better human. 'His gift for storytelling embodied his kind soul and heart. I loved him, and so did all blessed to know him. Please keep Kim, Gretchen, and family in prayer.' Miller is the author of the book 'Skipper: Why Baseball Managers Matter and Always Will', released just a month ago, and he was on various podcasts in May promoting it. MLB also released a statement which read: 'Tonight we remember Scott Miller - a true gentleman, a class act, and an expert of his craft who loved our National Pastime. Miller was a legendary baseball writer who worked for the NY Times and CBS among others 'We extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones and his readers throughout the game.' Miller's career spanned over three decades, and began as a beat reporter for the St Paul Pioneer Press. He went on to work for CBS Sports, Bleacher Report, MLB Network Radio and the Los Angeles Times among others. On X, Jeff Passan wrote: 'This is so awful. Scott Miller was as nice of a guy as you'd find in the press box — and a very talented writer to boot. A sad, sad day.' The Post's Jon Heyman added: 'Very sad about this. Scott was an incredible teammate at CBS and great writer. Best to Kim, Gretchen and the whole Miller family.'
