LAFC acquire Dutch attacker Javairo Dilrosun on loan

June 11 - Los Angeles FC acquired attacker Javairo Dilrosun from LIGA MX side Club America on Wednesday.
The loan agreement runs through July 24 and includes an option to purchase the 26-year-old Dutchman.
Dilrosun will fill a Designated Player spot on the roster and is available for action in the FIFA Club World Cup.
"Javairo is a player we are familiar with who has shown his talent playing in some of the top leagues in the world," said LAFC co-president and general manager John Thorrington.
"We are excited to add a quality player like Javairo as we prepare for the unique challenge of playing in the Club World Cup."
Dilrosun has produced 19 goals and 33 assists in 199 professional appearances while winning five trophies during stints in Germany (Hertha BSC), France (Bordeaux), the Netherlands (Feyenoord) and Mexico.
LAFC will open the Club World Cup on Monday in Atlanta against Premier League powerhouse Chelsea.

June 22 - The visiting Atlanta Braves have an opportunity to post their fourth consecutive series win on Sunday afternoon against the Miami Marlins. After beginning June with seven straight losses, the Braves have won eight of 11 games, including a 7-0 victory over Miami on Saturday. Starter Grant Holmes and three Atlanta relievers combined to record the club's fifth shutout of the season -- and second of Miami in four meetings this year -- to lower the team's ERA to 3.65. Atlanta will need continued success from its staff after placing reigning National League Cy Young winner Chris Sale on the 15-day injured list. Sale, who fractured his ribs diving for a grounder in a victory over the New York Mets on Wednesday, owns the NL's third-best ERA at 2.52. Bryce Elder (2-4, 4.45 ERA) will make his 12th start of the season after being skipped over last time in the rotation. Elder has faced the Marlins more than any other team over his four-year career, compiling a 2-2 record with a 2.89 ERA in 46 2/3 innings over eight career starts against Miami. The Marlins dropped their third game in four outings on Saturday, while being shut out for the sixth time this year. In defeat, Miami saw its second-largest home crowd of the season with an attendance of 21,198. Manager Clayton McCollough hopes that spills into Sunday as the Marlins look for their first series win over Atlanta since September 2023. "It was great to have some buzz in the stadium," McCollough said. "It's unfortunate the final score looks the way it is, but I felt like it was a game where it was one swing of the bat from flipping some. But it was a great atmosphere in LoanDepot (park) and hope for more of those to come." White Sox out to turn tables on Blue Jays, win series

June 22 - The visiting Chicago White Sox aim to reverse a trend Sunday afternoon in the rubber match of their three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays. The Blue Jays have mostly had their way with the White Sox recently. Toronto is 13-2 against the South Siders since June 22, 2022, after a 7-1 victory on Saturday to gain a split of the first two games. The Blue Jays are 9-2 at home against Chicago since May 31, 2022. The White Sox, however, are in a position to win the series after taking the opener 7-1 on Friday night. Both teams should have their overworked bullpens in relatively good shape for the season finale after both starters pitched deep on Saturday. Toronto's Jose Berrios pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowing an unearned run and two hits to earn the win. The effort came after the Blue Jays used seven pitchers on Friday. "He was exactly what we needed," manager John Schneider said. "That's how you answer back after a tough game." "Knowing the game we had (Friday), I came in today having that in mind," Berrios said. "But also, this is my day, my job and that's my goal, trying to be long in the game." White Sox starter Aaron Civale was not so successful, but he overcame a difficult first two innings to toss a bullpen-saving seven innings in which he allowed five runs. The White Sox used five pitchers on Friday after dropping both ends of a doubleheader -- including a 10-inning game -- against the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday. Chicago has lost nine of its past 10 games. "After a tough start, where he left a couple of pitches in the heart of the plate and paid for it, he did a great job of settling down," manager Will Venable said of Civale. "And to cover seven innings with where we are with our bullpen is huge. ... Just unbelievable to be able to go seven innings on a day where maybe, at the beginning, he didn't have his best stuff." The White Sox had a reliever make his major league debut for the second straight game on Saturday. Jake Palisch, who was promoted from Double-A Birmingham on Friday, pitched the eighth inning Saturday, allowing two infield hits and Davis Schneider's two-run double. Streaky Rangers look for series sweep in Pittsburgh

June 22 - The Pittsburgh Pirates hope to salvage a brief, three-game homestand Sunday when their series wraps up with the Texas Rangers. Having lost six of their last seven games, the National League Central cellar-dwelling Pirates will send Bailey Falter (5-3, 3.49 ERA) to the mound in hoping to right the ship. The 28-year-old left-hander has not taken a loss since April 27, but he has five no-decisions in his last nine starts. As has been the case for most of the season, offense has been an issue for the Pirates. They entered Saturday with an NL-worst .225 batting average and managed just five hits in Saturday's 3-2 loss -- though the Rangers managed just four. During the current skid, the Pirates have mustered six or fewer hits in five games - all losses. Manager Don Kelly's team has scored three or fewer runs in each of their last 10 defeats going back to June 3. Despite the lack of offense, the Pirates had their chances to score on Saturday. The leadoff runner reached in four of the first five innings, but only one ended up scoring. "We just have to find a way," Kelly said. "We got to find a way to come through with guys on base." Falter has one career start against the Rangers, that coming in April 2023 when he was with the Philadelphia Phillies. Falter threw 5 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts in a 2-1 loss on the road. Josh Jung hit a solo homer off Felter in that one. The Rangers, winners of two straight, have been a team of streaks over the past nine games. That stretch started with a four-game winning streak before they were swept at home by Kansas City. Jack Leiter will face the Pirates for the first time in his career Sunday. The rookie right-hander, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, has lost two straight and struggled in both starts. He has allowed 10 earned runs over his last 9 2/3 innings while giving up 13 hits and six walks. Texas will be without one of its top bats for at least 10 days as the club placed Jake Burger on the 10-day injured list on Saturday. The first baseman, whose 10 home runs and 13 doubles both rank second on the team, strained his left oblique in Friday's win over the Pirates. Utility player Ezequiel Duran will likely play in Burger's place, manager Bruce Bochy said, according to "I'd like to give Zeke some runway here," Bochy said. "I think he's been swinging better, and he gives us a good option there at first base. It's been good to see him make some adjustments."
