Mic picks up bellowing 'Free Castellanos' cry during Phillies game
Surprising to absolutely no one, it seems the benching of Philadelphia Phillies slugger Nick Castellanos is not going over well with the fanbase.
After 236 consecutive starts in the lineup, Phillies manager Rob Thomson sat Castellanos on Tuesday at Miami. Thomson said the outfielder crossed a line when speaking to the skipper on Monday after he was removed late in the game for defensive purposes. So Castellanos was benched for the first time since September 2023.
At least one paying fan in Miami did not take kindly to the development on Tuesday night. In a mostly-empty LoanDepot Park — there was much more sports excitement just up the road — a bellowing 'Free Castellanos" cry was so loud it echoed across the field and into the broadcast booth.
Considering a Marlins team that sits last in the NL East defeated the Phillies, 8-3, on Tuesday — and the Phillies are about to face the first place New York Mets this weekend — it sure seems like Castellanos will be free soon enough.
