DG NAB tightens noose around illegal housing schemes

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lahore, under the leadership of Director General (DG) NAB Lahore, Muhammad Ahtram Dar, convened its monthly Open Hearing at NAB Lahore Bureau, today.
A large number of affectees of various illegal housing Societies and fraudulent Ponzi schemes participated in the session and presented their grievances directly to the DG NAB.
Victims of several major housing scandals, including the Prime Zone Scandal, Al-Rehman Garden Phase 4, Khayaban-e-Amin Housing Society, and Palm Vista Housing Scheme, were present in significant numbers. Additionally, complainants related to Grand Avenue Housing, Professional Cooperative Housing, New Lahore City, Omega Housing, and Bin Alam Housing Scandals also brought forward their grievances during the hearing.
DG NAB Lahore, Muhammad Ahtram Dar, attentively listened to the concerns of all complainants and reassured them of NAB's commitment to ensuring justice and accountability. He issued clear deadlines to the relevant investigation teams for making significant progress in all cases and emphasized the importance of delivering timely relief to the public in line with the directives of the Chairman NAB.
In his remarks, DG NAB Lahore highlighted that the Bureau is fully committed to safeguarding the rights of victims and ensuring restitution of their losses through lawful means. He reiterated that the instructions of the NAB Chairman are clear to provide immediate and effective relief to the public.
Addressing the victims of the Prime Zone Scandal, DG NAB Lahore shared that a corruption Reference has already been filed against the accused in the Accountability Court. However, actions are underway to repatriate the main accused back to Pakistan through Interpol. Five other suspects have been arrested and included in the Reference.
In the Al-Rehman Garden Phase-4 case, DG NAB directed the investigation team to resolve the registration issues of all 77 victims within two weeks deadline and submit a detailed report, accordingly.
For the Khayaban-e-Amin Housing Society case, it was revealed that plots have already been allotted to 550 out of the 700 complainants. DG NAB Lahore instructed the concerned team to resolve the remaining complaints by May 10, 2025.
Regarding the Omega Housing Society, the management was directed to refund the victims as per the NAB-approved refund policy, he said. The investigation team was also instructed to ensure strict compliance with the implementation of this policy.
The attendees expressed their satisfaction and appreciation for the initiative taken by NAB Lahore, particularly acknowledging the swift actions and timely intervention by DG NAB Lahore. They voiced optimism that their issues will be resolved efficiently in the coming weeks.

12 exonerated in M6 case

The Accountability Court No1 Hyderabad, presided over by Judge Naseem Akhtar Soomro, has acquitted 12 accused from district Naushahro Feroze in the mega corruption reference related to the purchase of land for the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway (M-6). The reference involved over Rs5 billion in alleged corruptions. However, cases are still in progress against 30 suspects, including the axed deputy commissioners of Matiari and Naushehro Feroze districts, who are on the run after pocketing billions of rupees meant for buying land for the motorway. The court accepted the acquittal pleas filed by the accused and released them with honour after concluding that no evidence had been found against them during investigations conducted by NAB and the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE). The acquitted individuals include two former Mukhtiarkars, three clerks, three tapedars, and the former personal assistant (PA) of the ex-deputy commissioner of Naushehro Feroze. The decision was reserved after final arguments by the counsels and was issued yesterday in a two-page written judgment. The judgment stated that no incriminating material was found against the applicants during the investigations, and NAB's special prosecutor had also confirmed the absence of any evidence on record. The Anti-Corruption Establishment had initially investigated the alleged corruption in the land acquisition process and later transferred the case to NAB. The accused were acquitted under Section 265 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPrC). Those acquitted include, Shafiq Ahmed Soomro (former Mukhtiarkar Mehrabpur), Niaz Ali Ajan, (former Mukhtiarkar Bhirya City), Abdul Aziz Ansari (former PA to DC Naushehro Feroze), Abdul Ghaffar Depar (former senior clerk), Ghulam Haqqani Sehto and Tanveer Ali Mallah (former tapedars), Rustam Khoso (former accounts clerk), Khalid Masood Channa (private contractor), Sajjad Ahmed Memon (former social welfare officer), Aftab Ahmed Soomro and Siraj Ahmed Memon (stamp vendors) and Abdul Ghaffar Marri (Notary Public). It is pertinent to mention that NAB had filed this reference in the accountability court in 2023, alleging Rs5.8 billion embezzlement in funds allocated for land acquisition for the M-6 Motorway in districts Matiari and Naushehro Feroze. The case included several government officials, private contractors, and individuals, with a total of 42 persons named as accused. While 12 have now been acquitted, the reference against the remaining 30 accused, including suspended DC Matiari Adnan Rasheed and absconding/suspended DC Naushehro Feroze Tashfeen Alam, is still under trial in Accountability Court No. 1.

NAB summons Azam Swati in funds inquiry

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chapter has issued a formal call-up notice to senior politician Mohammad Azam Khan Swati in connection with an ongoing investigation into the alleged illegal withdrawal and misuse of government funds. The inquiry launched under Sections 18(c) and 19 of the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO), 1999, centers on financial irregularities involving officials of the District Accounts Office in Kohistan and associated entities. The case pertains to government funds listed under MES 323205. According to the notice, NAB received a complaint suggesting that Swati may possess crucial financial documents relevant to the case. He has been directed to appear before the Combined Inquiry Team (CIT-I), Investigation Wing-I, at NAB's regional office in Phase-V, Hayatabad, Peshawar. Swati has been asked to present himself on June 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM, along with complete records of all payments received from M/s Kohistan Associate and Builders during the year 2024. "In light of the nature of the allegations, prima facie it has been observed that you are in custody of important records relevant to the case," the notice reads, emphasizing that the documentation is essential for a fair and thorough inquiry. The notice also cautions that failure to comply may result in coercive action under the relevant provisions of the NAO, 1999. The call-up notice was signed by Muhammad Kamran, Deputy Director (Coordination), on behalf of the Director, Investigation Wing-I. This development comes amid heightened scrutiny of alleged public fund misappropriations in various districts across K-P, as NAB steps up its crackdown on both current and former government officials.
