Honda Cars India has officially discontinued the VX trim level of the second gen Honda Amaze (HT Auto/Sabyasachi Dasgupta) Check Offers
The top of the line variant of the second gen Honda Amaze - VX- has been officially discontinued. At the time when the third gen Honda Amaze was launched in December 2024, the carmaker had announced that it will be selling the second generation version of the sub compact sedan alongside the new model.
While, since then both the variants of the second gen Amaze - S and the VX were on sale, now the company's official website has delisted the VX trim level of the model. With this, only the S trim level of the 2021 Honda Amaze is on sale alongside the 2024 Honda Amaze range.

While the second gen Honda Amaze was first launched in 2018, the facelifted model of the sedan made its debut in 2021. At the time the sedan was offered across three trim levels - E, S and VX, with the E variant being discontinued in 2023. Now though, with the VX variant being discontinued as well, the second gen Amaze is available only in the S trim which is priced at ₹ 7.63 lakh and ₹ 8.53 lakh for the manual transmission option and CVT option, respectively.
The sedan gets powered by a 1.2 litre petrol engine producing 89 bhp and 110 Nm of torque. The engine gets paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT.
Inside the cabin, the S trim features an integrated 2DIN LCD screen audio system offering Aux-in, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity, complemented by steering-mounted audio and hands-free telephone controls. Functional additions included a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, a height-adjustable driver's seat for better ergonomics, and a rear center foldable armrest with a cupholder for passenger comfort. Further conveniences comprised front and rear accessory sockets, a trunk lid lining, a leather gear lever boot for manual versions, an assistant side vanity mirror, and often a dual-tone black and beige instrument panel. The Third gen Honda Amaze was launched in December 2024 and is available in three trim levels - V, VX and ZX. The sedan is priced between ₹ 8.19 lakh and ₹ 11.20 lakh. All the prices are ex-showroom. Just like the second gen model, the third gen also gets powered by a 1.2 litre petrol engine producing 89 bhp and 110 Nm of torque. The engine gets paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT.
The highlight of the 2024 Amaze is that it is now the most affordable car in the Indian market to come with an Advanced Driver Aids System. It also gets LED lighting, a larger touchscreen infotainment system, projector fog lamps, remote engine start, a semi-digital driver's display and connected car technology. There is also a 6-speaker sound system and lane watch camera.

Interview: How key trends shaping in-car audio experience, explains Harman India VP Sanjeev Kulkarni

In-car audio experience is massively shaping the car buyers' purchase decisions. Harman India's Sanjeev Kulkarni explains how. Check Offers Car buyers in India have been going through a drastic transition when it comes to consumer preference and perspective. Gone are the days when buying a car was just for commuting from one point to another, and consumers' purchase decisions used to be controlled by factors like fuel economy, resale value, pricing, etc. Modern car buyers have been increasingly focusing on factors like in-cabin features, performance, technology, value-for-money, etc. In-cabin experience driven by various features has been shaping the purchase decisions for modern car buyers in a significant manner. When it comes to the in-cabin experience, the in-cabin audio system plays a crucial role for consumers. This is one of the key reasons why the car makers, even in the affordable mass-market segment, have been introducing high-end audio systems in their vehicles. HT Auto spoke to Sanjeev Kulkarni, Vice President, Automotive - Harman India, to learn about the transition in the in-vehicle audio equipment industry. Here are the excerpts. HT Auto: What are the trends in-car audio you see evolving over the next 3–5 years? Sanjeev Kulkarni: Car audio is evolving rapidly, with advancements changing the way we experience sound in our cars. In the past, vehicles typically had basic audio systems, consisting of a four-channel setup driving four to eight speakers, with the amplifier being part of the infotainment system that drove the sound quality. Branded car audio systems have gained popularity for the premium listening experience they provide, and growth in that segment is expected to continue over the next three to five years. More advanced than the base systems, these audio systems offer higher channel counts, powerful built-in amplifiers, and external amplifiers. Additionally, the strategic positioning of well-designed transducers enhances overall frequency response and sound quality. Powerful amplifiers now support multi-speaker setups of 16, 20, 24, or even up to 36 speakers, all delivering exceptional sound quality. With the introduction of multiple roof speakers in branded audio systems, 3D-surround or immersive sound experiences can be achieved. This will allow clear differentiation of musical instruments and vocals, providing an enriched audio experience. The demand for multi-dimensional sound is certainly expected to grow in the coming years. Major players have developed 3D surround sound algorithms, which will become increasingly popular. The Mahindra XEV 9E and Mahindra BE 6 have been using the Quantum Logic Immersion algorithm. Soon, there will be newer algorithms as well. Dolby Atmos is already making waves in the entertainment industry with multi-dimensional sound. Another emerging trend is the use of software-driven sound algorithms, which add significant value to both branded and non-branded audio systems. These algorithms help address vehicle architecture and cost limitations, enhancing bass response, widening the soundstage, and providing theatre-like listening experiences with existing hardware. While seat-based tuning (individual, front-row, second row, etc.) is already common, the future will see the rise of personalised seat-based audio. In this approach, speakers will be integrated into the headrests, allowing each commuter to experience a completely personalised audio environment that is isolated from the rest of the vehicle. These also facilitate bi-directional in-car communication between passengers. Another trend is managing in-cabin vehicle noise and road noise -- to ensure greater comfort for the occupants. This can be achieved through features such as Vehicle Noise Compensation (VNC) and Road Noise Cancellation (RNC) – all thanks to software sound algorithms. External Sound is also becoming more important, known as AVAS (Acoustic vehicle Alerting System) improves pedestrian safety around electric and hybrid vehicles, through a specific electronic sound created and projected from speakers outside the vehicle, giving an early warning to the surroundings that a car is approaching. This helps automakers not only to comply with governmental safety regulations but enables them to define a unique external sound, matching their brand DNA. HT Auto: What emerging technologies (e.g., AR/VR, AI-driven tuning) have been influencing in-car audio system development? Sanjeev Kulkarni: Emerging technologies such as machine-assisted tuning, Augmented Reality (AR), and Virtual Reality (VR) are playing an increasingly important role in the development of in-vehicle audio systems. Traditionally, vehicle audio tuning was a one-time event, with limited possibilities for the end user to adjust the experience. Today, advanced computer-aided tools, research-based findings, are enabling acoustic experts to implement more flexible and efficient tuning processes. These tools help engineers analyse complex acoustic environments and listener behaviours, allowing them to provide carefully curated adjustments that align with different driving conditions and passenger preferences. Rather than relying solely on basic bass, treble, and balance settings, these expert-designed adjustments offer listeners options to tailor their experience—whether they seek immersion, clarity, or warmth—based on mood or context. The result is a more engaging and responsive audio environment, shaped by engineering expertise and supported by powerful digital technologies. Meanwhile, AR and VR are enhancing in-vehicle audio systems by offering immersive entertainment experiences and improving overall audio system design and testing. HT Auto: How Indian consumers' demand for in-car audio experience evolving? Sanjeev Kulkarni: Until now, basic stereo systems with four-channel speaker setups have been the standard for Indian customers. However, as this space evolves, Indian consumers' needs and expectations are increasing. Today, consumers want to replicate their home audio experience in their cars, as they spend a significant amount of time commuting. Some of the major trends among Indian car buyers are - branded audio systems with eight to 20 speakers, well-designed and strategically positioned subwoofers to enhance sound quality, expectation of immersive sound experiences, karaoke in the car, integration of software sound algorithms to enhance in-car audio quality, premium audio tuning options, seat-based adjustments for individuals and family-wide tuning for all passengers, etc. Get insights into Upcoming Cars In India, Electric Vehicles, Upcoming Bikes in India and cutting-edge technology transforming the automotive landscape. Matter Motor targets mid-segment riders with EV motorcycles and a tiered product strategy

Matter's first offering, the Aera, which was launched in 2025 is the country's first geared electric motorcycle priced between ₹1.83 and ₹1.94 lakh, ex-showroom Check Offers In a market dominated by electric scooters and price-point dynamics, Ahmedabad-based startup Matter is making a different bet. Rather than chase scale through subsidies or simplified platforms, the company is building what it calls a true electric motorcycle, designed not as a scooter in disguise but as a viable alternative to the country's vast 125–180cc ICE segment. The decision to focus on motorcycles is not without risk. This is a segment where electric adoption still hovers below 1 per cent, and where product complexity—from drivetrain demands to thermal management—is considerably higher than that of scooters. But for Matter, that's precisely the opportunity. As Founder and CEO Mohal Lalbhai told HT Auto, 'Motorcycles are the SUVs of the two-wheeler world. They need torque, control, and thermal stability. You can't get away with oversimplification here." Product pipeline Matter's first offering, the Aera, which was launched in 2025 is the country's first geared electric motorcycle priced between ₹ 1.83 and ₹ 1.94 lakh, ex-showroom. But the broader roadmap is more layered. While the Aera is said to be comparable to a 180cc internal combustion motorcycle which is typically priced between ₹ 1.60 lakh to around ₹ 2.10 lakh, ex-showroom, a 150cc ICE-equivalent electric motorcycle is scheduled for launch in late 2026, followed by a 125cc model in 2027. The latter is expected to coincide with BS7 emission norms, which are likely to push ICE prices up and narrow the cost differential with EVs. Both new products will retain Matter's key engineering principles: manual gearboxes, liquid-cooled batteries, and segment-specific torque tuning. The aim is to avoid the feature inflation common in the EV market and instead meet core commuter expectations—durability, control, and manageable running costs. In parallel, a second motorcycle platform—based on battery swapping architecture—is also in development. It is aimed at cost-sensitive commuter segments but won't be ready for commercial deployment until 2028 or later. Matter is currently evaluating user safety, pack stability, and mechanical integration before scaling this format. Retail Footprint: Slow rollout by design Matter's retail presence has so far been modest, focused on Ahmedabad. But in 2024, the company began expanding into Delhi, Pune, Bengaluru, and Jaipur, with a target of around 50 outlets by year-end. This includes both sales and service support, an area where many EV startups have lagged. The expansion is phased. West and South India are being prioritised in the current cycle, with North India expected to follow around early 2025, timed around Holi. Rather than aiming for rapid dealership proliferation, the company appears to be validating product-market fit and ensuring aftersales support before chasing wider volume. Meanwhile on the global scale, by 2026 Matter plans to begin exports to Southern and Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, and select African markets. These regions have varying degrees of EV readiness, but Matter is conducting early feasibility and homologation studies to align with each market's regulatory environment and customer expectations. What's notable is that these export plans are tied to the motorcycle format—Matter does not currently operate in the scooter space and does not appear to have short-term plans to enter it. Capital, profitability and scale questions Since its founding in 2017, Matter has invested ₹ 600 crore—largely in drivetrain engineering, thermal systems, and battery R&D. Over the next three years, an additional ₹ 1,500–1,600 crore is planned to support product expansion, retail growth, and manufacturing scale-up. The company is targeting EBITDA-level profitability within this investment cycle, though much depends on how quickly motorcycle EV adoption grows and whether the upcoming 125cc and 150cc models can hit volume targets without heavy incentive dependency. Matter had originally projected ₹ 1,000 crore (approximately $1 billion) in sales by 2025. That number has now been pushed back by five to six years, a recalibration driven by supply chain challenges, product maturity timelines, and a deliberate decision to launch once the company's internal benchmarks—not market pressure—were met. Honda Cars India has announced the launch of the new City Sport special edition, which introduces sporty enhancements to the widely favoured sedan. The new Honda City Sport Edition is available at a starting price of ₹ 14.89 lakh (ex-showroom), and it features several blacked-out elements both on the exterior and interior to enhance its appeal. This exclusive City Sport Edition will be offered in limited quantities and competes with models such as the Volkswagen Virtus, Hyundai Verna and Skoda Slavia within the segment. The Honda City Sport gets blacked-out embellishments, which make the sedan look sportier as compared to the standard edition. The Honda City Sport will be offered in three colour options, including Radiant Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, and Meteoroid Grey Metallic. Take a look at what has changed on the newest iteration of the sedan: Honda City Sport Edition: New features The City Sport Edition enhances the sedan's exterior with a range of upgrades. The chrome grille is now finished in black, as is the rear spoiler. The outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs) sport a crystal black finish, while the multi-spoke alloy wheels are rendered in metallic grey. Additionally, the shark-fin antenna is finished in gloss black, and a 'Sport' emblem is affixed to the boot of the sedan. Inside the cabin, an all-black interior has been introduced, accented with red garnishing on the dashboard. The seats are upholstered in black leatherette with contrasting red stitching, and new soft-touch door inserts enhance the interior quality. Elevate to get new variants soon) Honda City Sport Edition: Specifications The Honda City Sport Edition is powered by the well-known 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing 119 bhp and 145 Nm of peak torque. It is exclusively coupled with a 7-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT) automatic gearbox. The manufacturer claims a fuel efficiency of 18.40 kmpl, as certified by ARAI, for the City automatic version. In terms of features, the City Sport Edition is equipped with familiar technology, including an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities, voice command functionality, a four-speaker sound system, automatic climate control, a dual-pod instrument console with a multi-information display (MID) unit, Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), among numerous other offerings.
