USA TODAY Sports names Alabama safety as player whose NFL Draft stock could soar in 2025
The Alabama Crimson Tide are returning some big names on both sides of the ball in 2025 as Kalen DeBoer enters his second season as head coach.
Alabama's offense will feature standout players from a year ago such as star receiver (and video game cover athlete) Ryan Williams and fellow wideout Germie Bernard. Jam Miller returns at tailback after rushing for 668 yards (4.3 AVG) and seven touchdowns in a somewhat crowded backfield with Justice Haynes, who transferred to Georgia Tech.
On defense, linebacker Deontae Lawson and defensive lineman LT Overton were named to the recent Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List. Safeties Keon Sabb and Brey Hubbard also return, as does cornerback Domani Jackson.
USA TODAY Sports on Wednesday named 10 NFL Draft prospects whose stock could be poised to rise during the 2025 college football season. Sabb made the list as a potential first-round pick at defensive back.
USA TODAY Sports' Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz said:
"After helping Michigan win a national championship in 2023, Sabb took on a new challenge last year by going to Tuscaloosa to help the Crimson Tide navigate the post-Nick Saban era. He made a strong early impression, recording two interceptions in his first game for Alabama and notching 39 total tackles before being lost for the season to a lower-extremity injury. The 6-1, 205-pounder blends puts together impressive size and coverage skills to allow him to clamp down on tight ends and patrol underneath in zone coverage. With his strong tackling allowing him to also be a force in the box, he should be coveted for his ability to handle a few key tasks, even if he doesn't fit the mold of a typical single-high safety. If he's able to stay healthy, expect his buzz to build."
Sabb started Alabama's first seven games last year before his season-ending injury in the Tennessee game on Oct. 19. In the Tide's season-opening 62-0 shutout of Western Kentucky, he returned a TJ Finley interception 23 yards to set up Alabama's first touchdown of the year.
Sabb struck again on WKU's next drive, picking off another Finley pass and returning it 64 yards to set up another score. Two weeks later, he had six tackles and two pass breakups in Alabama's 42-10 rout of Wisconsin at Camp Randall Stadium.
Alabama will open the 2025 season in Tallahassee against Florida State on Aug. 30. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ABC.

Since both were named starters, Philadelphia's line has reached new heights as a collective unit. They have blocked for a 2,000-yard runner, an MVP finalist, and have won a Super Bowl. Pro Football Focus is just the latest publication to speak out in favor of Philadelphia's tackle tandem. In their weekly series ranking each position group, the analytics site ranked Mailata and Johnson as the best offensive tackle duo in the league. "Bookending the best offensive line in football, Mailata and Johnson are the best offensive tackle duo in the NFL and, arguably, the best players at their respective positions," Zoltán Buday said. "Mailata's 95.2 PFF overall grade led all offensive tackles in 2024, while Johnson's 88.9 figure ranked second among right tackles. Johnson's 2.2 percent pressure rate allowed ranked second among all tackles and led all right tackles, while Mailata's 3.7 percent clip ranked eighth among all offensive tackles." Philadelphia has had a strong history of excellent tackle play. Mailata and Johnson are just the latest duo to excel. Johnson, the former fourth-overall pick out of Oklahoma, is a five-time All-Pro and considered maybe the best right tackle in modern history. Mailata, meanwhile, was a seventh-round draft steal who has grown from a rugby star to an NFL success story. Few teams in the league have two quality tackles on their roster. Even fewer can claim both of their tandem as Pro Bowl talents. The Eagles are the only team that can call both of its tackles the best at their respective positions. A couple of nights ago, I asked the following question: What's your prediction for who will lead the Miami Dolphins offense in any statistical category? Give us your list of leaders, along with statistical numbers, if you also want to predict those. Below are some of your thoughts and answers- Advertisement SlayerNation1 has all of the usual suspects. Achane 800/400 yards Hill 1400 (Waddle will miss games 1100) Tua 3,000 yards passing, will miss games Smith if He plays 700 yards, many of his short passes/behind LOS passes could go to a RB or Conner. Mcadaniel leads the league with 30 Delays of Game dedstrk316 added some new statistical categories. Injuries: Tua, Chubb, Phillips, at least one oline player. Timeouts due to not being able to get the play call in on time: McDaniel Hissy Fits: Tyreek Being a total badass: Seiler and Grant How the heck did he do that: Achane, Waddle Yarganaught doesn't know who it's going to be but believes that the run game will be a focus this coming season. Oh gosh, I really don't have any idea who will be The Man at any spot. I think the running game will be a focus, and the O-line will improve in that area. But will those carries go to Achane, or will he become an increased passing threat? Perhaps Wright or Gordon II will surpass him in rushing yards and TDs. As mentioned below by JUK, will MMD spurn Hill's ego (in what could be his final season with Miami) in turn for Waddle's? Similarly, will MMD try to replace Jonnu's TE production with one of the other TEs on the roster, will Achane assume many of those shorter yardage passes, or will a WR3 step up as the TE (Pharoah) assumes more of a blocking role again? And that's just on Offense!!! Dolphster sees the status quo remaining. Interesting question. I think Tua, Achane, and Hill will still lead in passing, rushing, and re Smith will stay, play to the same standard but be at least 20% down in counting statsceiving. Even if Jonnu stays, I don't foresee him replicating last year's stats, so I don't see him repeating for most receiving TDs. Not sure who I would guess would take that lead this year though. Maybe Achane for most overall TDs, but not receiving TDs. JUK has Achane leading the team in yards and Waddle besting Hill. Achane will lead the team in total yards from scrimmage, that's the easiest call for me if he's healthy. Waddle will outplay Hill, whether he leads the team in receiving yards depends if McD has learned his lesson or if he keeps trying to feed balls to protect Reek's ego. Bill Moody sees Tua staying healthy. QB (All) - Tua (he stays healthy) RB (Rushing and Scrimmage Yards, TDs) - Achane (Wright didn't look good last year, and Ollie is new) WR (Receiving Yards) - HIll (while I think both Hill and Waddle will have a resurgance, I think Hill gonna be on a warpath) These seem most likely to me. The Florida State product caught 29 passes for over 500 yards in his first season in the league. Advertisement While he showed the kind of potential that most teams look for, Bills fans were concerned about his lack of production. The team isn't too worried, though. In an interview noted by Bleacher Report, reigning league MVP Josh Allen discussed Coleman's production and the young receiver's future. "He looks very smooth right now. I feel like he's put on some muscle, he's moving quicker, not just physically but mentally, with our offensive system," Allen said. "I think he's attacked this offseason the way you would want a second-year receiver to attack." Allen has worked with a quality All-Pro receiver before. Stefon Diggs helped him become one of the league's better signal-callers. Advertisement Last year, Allen didn't need a star receiver to become the MVP. And ... Buffalo doesn't have a clear-cut No. 1 receiver. But it is comfortable with its current collection of weapons. If Coleman can develop into a star receiver, that will even help Buffalo's offense. It's easier said than done, though. Every offense needs a guy with Coleman's skill set as a deep-threat wideout. He'll still need to earn more playing time with acquisitions like Joshua Palmer, and Elijah Moore added this offseason. Allen still believes in his young receiver. If Coleman can take a jump in his second season, Allen's numbers will remain among the best in the league - and maybe Keon can be key to another MVP.
