Complete street vendor survey in two days: VMC chief
Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) Commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra has instructed officials to complete the ongoing survey to identify all street vendors in the VMC limits within two days and submit a report.
Participating in the survey in the city on Thursday, the commissioner interacted with a vendor and reviewed the 45 points mentioned in the questionnaire in the survey. Upon completion of the survey, all identified street vendors will be issued an identity card.
The initiative follows the recent meeting of the 19-member Town Vending Committee held after a gap of three to four years. A decision has been taken to divide the streets into three zones— red, amber, and green zones—as per the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014.
The survey, which began on May 13, is the first since 2018. According to information from the VMC, the last survey identified 17,282 street vendors. The present survey aims to identify how many of those vendors are still active and if any new person has come in their place.
As many as 286 welfare secretaries are participating in the survey, and three zonal commissioners are closely supervising it. The process is also expected to ease traffic congestion, especially on Besant Road, where shop owners allege that there has been an increase in vendors recently, narrowing the already congested street and leading to traffic disruptions.

HYDERABAD: Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Saturday revealed that around 8.5 lakh applications related to land-related issues were received during the recent Revenue Sadassulu conducted by the state government. 'The recently held Revenue conferences revealed how landowners were troubled by the previous Telangana Rights in Land and Pattadar Pass Books Act, 2020,' he said. Srinivasa Reddy held a review meeting at the Secretariat on the just-concluded Revenue Sadassulu (conferences). During the meeting, he instructed the Revenue authorities and officials of various districts to respond promptly to the applications received from the people. After the meeting, he issued a press statement, stating that the state government was revamping the land administration system, which according to him had been completely destroyed during the BRS regime. He also said that the government was strictly implementing the Telangana Bhu Bharati (Record of Rights in Land) Act, 2024, while claiming that the change is already being felt in the state. 'The new RoR Act brought transparency to land governance, which was lacking in the Telangana Rights in Land and Pattadar Pass Books Act, 2020. The new Act is paving the way for addressing the long-pending land issues,' he added. He said that around 60% of the approximately 46,000 applications received in the second phase have already been addressed. He said that over eight lakh applications were received from 10,239 villages during the third phase of Revenue conferences. The government has already computerised around 3.27 lakh applications, he added.

Revenue ‘grama sabhas' flooded with land related grievances
Hyderabad: The Revenue Department has successfully completed statewide revenue 'grama sabhas' that are aimed at resolving land related issues, following the introduction of Bhu Bharati Act. Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy informed that approximately 8.58 lakh applications were received during the 10,000 and odd meetings that were held. Khammam and Bhadradri-Kothagudem districts topped the grievances list with 67,000 and 61,000 applications, respectively. They were followed by Warangal (54,000), Jayashankar Bhupalapally (48,000) and Nalgonda with 42,000 applications. The Minister said that over 60 per cent of the issues that were raised had been resolved, excluding cases related to Sadabainama. Presiding over the review meeting at the Secretariat, Srinivas Reddy said that the Act is being implemented in a phased manner, since its introduction on April 14. In the initial phase, conducted from April 17 to 30, around 12,000 applications were received through 72 revenue meetings across four mandals. In the second phase that commenced on May 5, 46,000 applications were collected in 414 meetings across 28 mandals. Between June 3 and 20, revenue meetings were held in 10,239 villages spanning 561 mandals, resulting in a collection of eight lakh applications. In aggregate, 10,725 revenue sadassulu were conducted across 593 mandals over the course of three phases. He pointed out that a day preceding the revenue meetings, application forms were distributed free of cost to farmers within their respective villages. Special teams were constituted under the supervision of the MROs. Revenue officials proactively approached the people to collect applications and issue receipts for all submissions. He further noted that till date 3.27 lakh applications have been successfully registered online, and officials have been directed to expedite registration of the remaining applications.

NTR district takes up ‘Clean Air' drive with major initiatives under NCAP
Vijayawada: The NTR district administration has taken up the 'Clean Air' initiative in a big way under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), by launching a series of integrated measures aimed at reducing air pollution and improving environmental standards in Vijayawada. Authorities of NTR district conducted a high-level meeting with officials from the Pollution Control Board, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, transport, industries, and other departments, assessed the progress made, and planned further action. Air quality monitoring data revealed that the level of PM 10 fine dust particles in the city stood at 64 µg/m³ during 2024–25. Authorities resolved to bring this number down through focused interventions in traffic, greenery, and pollution control. Among the key initiatives is the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), being developed at a cost of ₹5 crore. The system is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion at junctions, and cut down vehicle emissions. The administration also directed that illegal parking be curbed and dedicated parking zones be created to ease road pressure. Action is being taken to identify and penalise vehicles emitting high levels of pollutants. Additionally, pollution caused by VTPS ash is to be addressed using advanced technology. On the solid waste management front, construction of proper roads, pavement development, canal bank greening, and mechanical sweeping are being prioritised. The administration is also enforcing ban on single-use plastic, particularly in shopping complexes, farmers' markets, and commercial zones. "All departments must report on plastic control measures and explore alternatives. Awareness campaigns among street vendors are equally important," Dr. Lakshmi added. A stakeholder workshop under NCAP has been scheduled for July 4 to discuss and finalise the next phase of clean air actions.
