Deputy PM meets UK defence secretary; bilateral pacts signed

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani met with UK Secretary of State for Defence, John Healey, during his official visit to the United Kingdom, accompanied by a delegation.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues of joint interest and ways to enhance them, in addition to the latest regional and international developments.
As part of the visit, an MoU was signed with the Royal Military Academy of Sandhurst. The MoU was signed by Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the UK HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Thani, and Commandant of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst Major General Nick Cowley.
An agreement was also signed to extend the joint Qatari-UK No 12 Squadron. It was signed by Commander of Qatar Amiri Air Force HE Maj Gen (Pilot) Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Dosari, and Chief of the Air Staff of the UK Royal Air Force Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton.
To mark the occasion, the UK Secretary of State for Defence hosted a luncheon in honour of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs. The meeting and luncheon were also attended by Ambassador Sheikh Abdullah and a number of senior military officers from both sides.

St Petersburg: The State of Qatar participated in the 28th St Petersburg International Economic Forum, which took place in Russia over four days, with the participation of several heads of government, senior officials, and experts from around the world. Dr Al Sayed also took part in a high-level discussion session on searching for new engines of growth: redesigning the global financial and trade framework. During his remarks in the session, he highlighted the State of Qatar's role in promoting innovation and research as key pillars for sustainable economic growth. Dr Al Sayed pointed to the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Strategy 2030, which aims to bring about a qualitative transformation by enhancing institutional infrastructure and setting national priorities in areas such as food security, health, energy, technology, and logistics. He said that Qatar is encouraging both the public and private sectors to adopt advanced technological solutions that enhance efficiency and competitiveness and support entrepreneurship, particularly in priority sectors. He also deemed the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) as a successful regional integration model, noting its achievements in unifying economic systems and policies, and in strengthening joint infrastructure and services. His Excellency added that the GCC is steadily progressing toward full economic integration, further solidifying its position as a global financial and investment hub. Dr Al Sayed also pointed out that the GDP of GCC countries has reached approximately USD 2.2 trillion, placing the bloc 9th globally. Furthermore, GCC financial markets rank 7th worldwide in terms of market capitalization, representing 4.3 percent of total global markets. In 2024, the non-oil sector contributed 75.9 percent of the region's GDP. He also highlighted Qatar's success in implementing a digital economy, driven by its advanced infrastructure and adoption of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, positioning the country at the forefront of the global shift toward a knowledge-based economy. On the sidelines of the forum, the Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairsآheld separate meetings with Russian Deputy Minister of Agriculture HE Maxim Markovich and Chairman of VTB Ban Andrei Kostin. The meetings explored prospects for cooperation across various sectors and highlighted Qatar's attractiveness in terms of the incentives, legislation, and the promising opportunities it offers to encourage entrepreneurs and business leaders to investment. Prime minister launches social development ministry's national strategy
DOHA: Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani has launched the National Strategy 2025-2030 of the Ministry of Social Development and Family, under the theme 'From Care to Empowerment'. The launch ceremony was attended by a number of ministers, senior officials, and representatives of government bodies and civil society institutions. On this occasion, Minister of Social Development and Family HE Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi said that the launch of the strategy represents a qualitative leap from a traditional care model to a more comprehensive, empowering, and sustainable approach based on a realistic understanding of the needs and challenges facing Qatari society. She noted that the strategy was the result of a collaborative effort involving various government entities, civil society institutions, and research centers. The strategy is built on five main pillars. The first focuses on strengthening the cohesion of Qatari families by developing preventive policies, parental education programs, and mental health initiatives to create a stable and adaptable family environment. The second pillar centers on empowering Qatari women and enhancing their participation across various sectors, particularly in leadership and decision-making positions. The strategy also prioritizes supporting vulnerable groups, particularly persons with disabilities, the elderly, widows, divorcees, and orphans by providing comprehensive social protection and services that foster their independence and integration into society. Turkish president, prime minister discuss latest developments in the region
