Jets QB Jordan Travis Announces Retirement
New York Jets quarterback Jordan Travis, a fifth-round pick (No. 171 overall) in the 2024 NFL Draft from Florida State, has informed the team of his intention to retire, per Adam Scheftler on X. The 24-year-old's decision comes after a challenging rookie season sidelined by a severe leg injury sustained in college.
'On November 18, 2023, my life took an unexpected turn. I gave everything I had to the rehab process but despite all my efforts, my leg never responded the way we hoped. After much prayer and consultation with the doctors, medical experts and my agent, I've been medically advised to retire from the game I love so deeply.'
"It's unfortunate that he was unable to get back on the field after working so hard," Jets GM Darren Mougey spoke of Travis, "We support his decision and wish him only the best."
Travis, an exciting dual-threat quarterback, dazzled at Florida State, was leading the Seminoles to an undefeated 2023 regular season and earning ACC Player and Offensive Player of the Year honors when a gruesome ankle fracture against North Alabama ended his college career, dropping his draft stock. He threw for 8,644yards and 65 touchdowns while adding 1,950 rushing yards while at Florida State. With the Jets, Travis spent 2024 on the non-football injury list, facing rehab setbacks that delayed his return.
Despite high hopes as a developmental prospect behind Aaron Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor, Travis' recovery struggles fell short. Travis, known for his leadership, his love of the game and winning has shown that he has the strength to bounce back and we will be here cheering for him.

Ex Steelers LB 'Excited' Aaron Rodgers is in Pittsburgh

Ex Steelers LB 'Excited' Aaron Rodgers is in Pittsburgh originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Unless you've been living under a rock, you've heard the news that 10-time Pro Bowler and four-time NFL MVP, Aaron Rodgers, will suit up for the Pittsburgh Steelers next season. Advertisement It was a long and arduous process, but Rodgers finally agreed to a one-year, $13.65 million contract with $10 million guaranteed. One Steelers legend, four-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion linebacker Joey Porter Sr., couldn't be happier that Rodgers is in town. 'Man, me being honest, I was excited,' Porter said. 'I got to play against Aaron Rodgers and watch Aaron Rodgers do his thing. I feel like he got a lot of juice left in the arm. … He's not a guy that is going to go out there and trick it off. He ain't going to put us in bad situations. We ain't asking him to save us — we ask him not to lose the four games that we lose every year that we're not supposed to lose.' Porter Sr. outlined his experience playing against Rodgers on the Not Just Football with Cam Heyward podcast. Advertisement The question, though, is, which version of Rodgers will the Steelers get? Porter Sr. played against the Rodgers who was winning league MVPs and throwing for 40 touchdowns each season. That's not the player who took the field last year for the New York Jets. Rodgers, who turns 42 in December, led the Jets to a 5-12 mark in his only full season in New York. Don't forget (Jets fans won't) that he missed all but four plays of the 2023 campaign after rupturing his Achilles on the first drive of the first game after joining the team two offseasons ago. Last season should be one to forget for Rodgers. He finished below the league average in passer rating - a stat of which he's the all-time career leader, and 31st in the league in QBR - behind names like Aidan O'Connell and Kirk Cousins. Advertisement His five wins last season are his lowest win total since 2017, when he played just seven games for Green Bay and posted a 4-3 mark. Rodgers' previous low win total was six, which he posted three times since taking over as the Packers' starting quarterback in 2008. Which Rodgers will Pittsburgh get in 2025? It shouldn't take long to find out. Related: Analyst Thinks T.J. Jets Predicted to Trade for $180 Million QB

Jets Predicted to Trade for $180 Million QB originally appeared on Athlon Sports. One of the biggest moves the New York Jets made this offseason was signing free-agent quarterback Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract to replace Aaron Rodgers. His addition has brought some hope. Advertisement Last year, he was solid for the Pittsburgh Steelers in limited playing time, making six starts and 10 appearances, completing 106-of-161 passes for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns and one interception, as well as 289 rushing yards and five touchdowns. However, there's a chance this Fields experiment doesn't pan out, which is why Brad Gagnon predicts in an article for Bleacher Report that the Jets will trade for Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins. "Any contender that loses its QB to an injury could be in on the 37-year-old, despite the high price tag," Gagnon wrote. "Since it's impossible to speculate on injuries, though, let's instead throw out a Jets team that has a considerable amount of salary-cap space and could well give up on Justin Fields by November. If the increasingly desperate Jets are competitive in spite of Fields at that stage, dealing for an established veteran from the NFC could make some sense." Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins© Brett Davis-Imagn Images Cousins is in an interesting position, as he was benched during the first season of his four-year, $180 million contract with Atlanta to sit behind then-rookie Michael Penix Jr. Advertisement It wasn't a surprising decision, though, as he struggled heavily, starting 14 games, completing 303-of-453 passes for 3,508 yards, 18 touchdowns, 16 interceptions (tied for most in the NFL) and an 88.6 passer rating. However, if Fields does truly disappoint, then Cousins would at least become an extremely experienced option. Cousins has seen a solid amount of success in his 13-year career, making four Pro Bowl appearances. One of the biggest question marks surrounding a potential deal is whether he would waive his no-trade clause. He could do that to become a starter once again if his situation with the Falcons doesn't change.
