She gave the electric performance in front of hundreds of fans who packed into the shopping centre to see her show.
It came as the star released her new single 'Is This What You've Been Waiting For' today and it will be part of her album of the same name will be released on July 11.
Amy promised her bumper sixth album will feature a song for everyone and were inspired by 'the treadmill of life' and will pay homage to live music.
In a sit down chat with The Scottish Sun, she said: 'The opening single, Is This What You've Been Waiting For, was just initially inspired by live music.
'I saw amazing videos of U2 performing at the Sphere venue in Las Vegas and it just got me so incredibly excited just thinking how nothing can replicate a gig.
'I think with all the advancements in AI and stuff like that a lot of people worry about music and all of that. but I don't think anything will ever be able to replace that feeling of being at a live show and that's kind of where that inspiration came from.
'It was then just more so about the kind of treadmill of life and working and all of that.'
One song on the new album came from one live music experience, when she was shocked by the great reception she received at the TRNSMT festival.
Despite being nervous about performing at the major event, she said the atmosphere generated by the young fans was so energetic she dedicated the song to them,
Amy added: 'Another song on my record called Can You Hear Me was actually inspired by the audience at the TRNSMT Festival.
'I played that a few years ago and I was a bit nervous going out because the crowd were really young and I thought to myself, gosh, some of these kids wouldn't even have been born when these songs were coming out. They're not going to enjoy this. They're not going to know anything.
'I was so taken aback by how they just knew every word and they were just having the time of their life and I was just so moved by it that I went back and I wrote the song Can You Hear Me?
'It's basically an anthem for the young people of today. I just thought they were really inspiring and it was just great to see so much happiness in a world of doom and gloom. I just felt really enthused by the younger generation and they inspired that song.'
Amy will be embarking on a huge tour of the UK and Europe - where she has sold out shows across Switzerland and Germany.
Amy's hails Glasgow's music scene
EXCL BY HARRY WILLIAMSON
Amy MacDonald told how growing up in the city where live music is the lifeblood saw great opportunities for her to break onto the music scene.
She said: "I think a lot of people will be quite inspired by that. I would too.
"We have so many venues and it was really great for me growing up here because there were so many venues that I could play.
"I was able to get out and play gigs constantly and there's just always been that accessibility here and it's really great.
"I remember playing the King Tut's for the first time and I was just a support act for another artist.
"I think it was an American artist and I was just on there to play at the start. But obviously all my friends and family came and for me that was like, oh my god I'm playing the King Tut's.
"Even now when I go back and I see my name on the stairs I just think that's amazing. I think we're really lucky to have a venue like that that has so much history behind it.
"Then obviously you've got the Barrowlands which I've just loved from day one. They put me in their hall of fame because I played there so many times and I wrote a song about the place as well.
"So we are just kind of spoiled for choice here in Glasgow."
But it will see her come back to her hometown and perform at the OVO Hydro on December 12 - which is set to be a special experience for the Bishopbriggs-born singer.
She said: 'My concert agent had been asking me to play the Hydro for years previously and I would always say no because I just thought I'm not going to be able to sell all of those tickets.
'So when we put it on sale the last time and sold it out I was completely blown away by that.
'I was like gosh, after all this time people still want to come to these gigs and it just means so much to me.
'So to be able to do that a second time is really exciting and we had the best time doing it previously and it was just one of those nights that felt really special and felt like there was a real incredible atmosphere.
'I'm looking forward to that again. It's something you can't replicate anywhere other than where you are and I'm lucky that I'm from Glasgow.
Amy's gesture to superfan
BY HARRY WILLIAMSON
AMY MacDonald superfan Maree Cameron travelled through from Edinburgh with mum Carolyn, 46, to see Amy perform.
The youngster, 11, recalled how she send a personally-made card to the singer to tell her she was her favourite artist and she got a special response.
Maree said: "I really enjoyed the show. I've been a fan for as long as I can remember.
"I sent her a card once to tell her she was my favourite artist and I really liked her songs.
"She actually wrote back to say thank you and gave us a free CD."
Mum Carolyn added: "We would love to see her at the Hydro, we're already signed up to get tickets.
"It was lovely to see her live today and we really like the new song."
'We've got the added bonus that everybody knows that Glasgow crowds are the best.
'So when you add that to it being your hometown as well. It's like a double whammy of specialness.'
Amy delivered an electric performance for the hundreds of fans who had gathered to see her perform.
She performed new tune Is This What You've Been Waiting For' alongside classic hits The Hudson and Statues.
But the crowds erupted into applause as they clapped and danced along to her iconic tunes Mr Rock and Roll and This Is The Life.

Mom, 36, reveals she's left strangers stunned as they regularly mistake her and teenage daughter, 18, for sisters
A Scottish mother from Glasgow has gone viral as people often mistake her and her daughter for twins. Lisa Johnston said people were often 'gobsmacked' when they found out she was 36 and the mom of 18-year-old Alicia Johnston, whom she calls her 'built-in best friend'. She has claimed heads turn in public when Alicia calls her 'mom', adding that they often share clothes, make-up, shoes and even friends with one another. The mother-of-two regularly posts TikTok videos with Alicia, leaving social media users baffled. Lisa said: 'Everybody's a bit gobsmacked. We've been out a couple of times together at pubs and things like that and everybody can't believe it either. They're like, "What? Are you friends or sisters?". 'Someone once asked to see my ID because they couldn't believe it in one of the pubs we were at in town. We could be out doing a food shop or something and maybe Alicia will turn around and say "mom, can I get this?" 'And you see people turn around and look as if to say, "mom?". They're really confused.' Lisa added: 'People thought when I was picking Alicia up from school that it was her older sister. 'People were like, "you're picking your daughter up? What?". I used to just laugh it off. They say I look really young, it's quite nice actually, it's a confidence boost. It's nice to know that I've actually produced a mini me. A few people have said we're like 'copy and paste' of each other. 'The more Alicia is getting older, I can now see the big resemblance especially when we're doing the videos and things together. It is kind of like who's who?' Lisa said: 'Fitness and healthy eating is a big part of my lifestyle. I go to the gym five times a week. 'I just try not to get too stressed out. I take life as fun, we're all just living life. 'I don't get myself too riled up on anything, I think that's a big part as well. It really is like having a built-in best friend.' Lisa is also great pals with all of Alicia's friends, with the daughter adding: 'My friends love coming over because my mum is like a friend. They'll just chat away to her. 'There will be times where I'm minding my own business and I'll get a phone call and they're like, "I'm out with your mom right now". She's part of the friendship group. I'm never really bothered when people mistake us for sisters, I think it's funny. 'I would say this only started when I was about 15. I was just starting TikTok and me and mum were making TikTok videos together sometimes. 'As I got older and I looked more like my mum, people were like, "oh my God, you actually look so similar". 'We've basically got the same make-up routine and everything. So it's actually good sharing make-up shoes, hair products, everything.' Alicia and Lisa share the same love of looking glam, and the mom has even taken an eyelash course so she can do her daughter's lashes on a budget. Lisa said: 'I ended up showing Alicia how to do them as well so that was something that we do together. It was something I could pass down to her. 'I was like, "as they get older, the girls will want things done and their mom can do it instead of spending hundreds of pounds".' Social media users have been quick to share their confusion with some even questioning if they are really mother and daughter. One user said: 'That is not your mommy she looks in her 20s.' A second added: 'Nah both look as young as each other. Sisters definitely.'

This Dublin hotel features in Michelin Guide to best boutique hotels
The Georgian Townhouse's tagline is "Style Stays Here". On entering the sunken bar is already buzzing with visitors helping themselves from the well-stocked honesty bar. This was Christened the "conversation pit" by original designer and owner Sam Stephenson. The Dublin architect had invited the great and good from Ireland's public life to sit here for colourful parties and social events. Seen as something of a rebel in the swinging 60s his innovation and spirit are everywhere here. Time has been kind to the minimalist style. Staff are friendly and helpful, we were offered homemade cake and coffee on arrival after a walk from the city centre. Sleeping Matters A double room at Number 31 (Image: unknown) Each of the 22 rooms has its own sophisticated style and character summoning Art Deco, Classic Hollywood and the Jazz Age. Our elegant suite was decorated in a rich light green colour and there was plenty of room to find your own space. We spent a comfortable afternoon here before going out for dinner. Luxury bedding and a Super King-sized bed added to a relaxing night's sleep after travelling and walking around the city centre. Nice Touch Featured in the Michelin Guide to Ireland's best boutique hotels, it also offers a stunning garden. The path runs between the mews and the townhouse. I enjoyed a morning coffee near the bronze statue of an angel which was resplendent under sunlight, falling Cherry blossoms in Springtime and colourful rows of flowers. At night guests warm themselves with a seat near the fire pit and enjoy a nightcap in the tranquil surroundings. The gardens at Number 31 (Image: unknown) Food For Thought Delia's breakfast was a real highlight and she delivered the perfect Irish mammy welcome with a smile and a cooked fry-up. We sit at a table arranged like a traditional farmhouse. The food is sourced from local ingredients, I opted for the delicious Eggs Benedict which was followed by Delia's signature dish of baked cranberry and orange nut loaf. Her homemade granola served with yoghurt and fruit was also popular. Drink In The Sights For music fans, Windmill Lane Recording Studios is a popular attraction. It's perhaps closely associated with U2 and no fan of the Dublin four-piece will be disappointed but other classic records such as Kate Bush's Hounds of Love were partly recorded at the studios. I was given a detailed tour that featured stories about the resident ghost as well as former owner Van Morrison. Recent visits include The Edge and Bruce Springsteen. Right in the centre of Dublin is The Irish Rock 'n' Roll Museum Experience which even contains its own U2 room, the tour featured an international audience who enjoyed getting involved and asking questions. We were even invited to a live jam session. When there were no takers, a rendition of Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix from my school days came in handy. Getting There I flew with Ryanair from Edinburgh into Dublin, prices vary depending on when you book but can start as low as £14.99. A cab from the airport to the city centre is around €30. An Aircoach bus ticket from the airport costs approximately €12 for a return and stops close to the hotel. I also travelled around Dublin on the Do Dublin Hop-on Hop-off tour. Rooms as the hotel start at £212 and includes breakfast, for further information visit Ryanair and Aer Lingus/Emerald Airlines service Glasgow and Edinburgh - Dublin and you can fly with Loganair and Aer Lingus/Emerald Airlines from Aberdeen too For more information please visit
