Kajol admitted that forging a friendship with one's children is not always instinctive for mothers.
'Being friends with kids doesn't come naturally to mothers because we devote ourselves to being mothers. We have to try hard to be friends with kids, have those uncomfortable conversations with them, and carry those uncomfortable feelings with us,' she shared.
The 'Do Patti' actress is committed to creating a space where her children feel safe and heard. She added that she is also a non-judgemental person when it comes to her kids. Maharaj Director Backs Deepika Padukone's 8-Hour Workday Request: "Rani, Kajol Did It Long Before It Became A Debate"

New Delhi: As conversations around work-life balance and regulated shooting hours continue to grow in the film industry, filmmaker Siddharth P. Malhotra has shared his thoughts on the ongoing debate around 8-hour work shifts. What Recalling his own experiences, Siddharth pointed out that actors like Rani Mukerji and Kajol have long followed structured 8-hour workdays. He cited the example of Hichki, a film that was completed in just 28 days. The director said discipline and coordination on set are key, regardless of the number of working hours. "Every film has its own requirement. We shot Hichki with Rani and the kids in 28 days with 8-hour shifts. Everyone, from actors to spot boys-was aligned. Kajol used to do 8-hour shifts even back in 2010. Rani does it too. So what Deepika is saying isn't new. If a director needs a certain actor and they can only give 6 hours a day-so be it. It's about aligning expectations. It's not about ego; it's about efficiency," Siddharth told IANS. Background The 8-hour work shift discussion gained attention after reports surfaced about Deepika Padukone being "dropped" from the film Spirit. The actress was initially cast opposite Prabhas but reportedly was dropped from the project due to disagreements over various demands. These included a profit-sharing model, a fixed 8-hour workday, and other terms that did not align with the vision of director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Following her exit, Triptii Dimri was brought in as the new lead. Siddharth also addressed the issue of pay disparity in the industry. The Maharaj director said that while the conversation around equal pay has been going on for years, there has been some progress. He noted that actors like Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt are now among the highest-paid stars in the business. "The truth is, pay depends on your star power. The first few days of a film rely on the actor's draw. After that, it's the director's job to sustain interest. It's not just about gender- it's about economics. If an actor brings in a strong opening, they deserve that pay. It's business logic," he added. In A Nutshell Filmmaker Siddharth P. Malhotra has addressed the 8-hour shift debate, saying actors like Rani Mukerji and Kajol have followed such schedules for years. He added that efficiency and alignment matter more than ego. He also noted that actor pay is based on star power and box office draw, not just gender.

‘Maharaj' director backs 8-hour shift: ‘Rani, Kajol did it long before it became debate'

Mumbai: As conversations around work-life balance and shooting hours gain momentum in the film industry, filmmaker Siddharth P. Malhotra has weighed in on the ongoing 8-hour shift debate. Reflecting on his own experiences, he recalled how actors like Rani Mukerji and Kajol have been following structured, 8-hour workdays long before it became a trending topic. Citing the example of the film 'Hichki,' which was wrapped in just 28 days, Siddharth highlighted the importance of discipline and coordination on set regardless of the shift duration. Speaking to IANS, he said, 'Every film has its own requirement. We shot Hichki with Rani and the kids in 28 days with 8-hour shifts. Everyone—from actors to spot boys—was aligned. It's about aligning expectations. It's not about ego; it's about efficiency.' For the unversed, the ongoing debate around 8-hour work shifts gained traction after reports emerged about Deepika Padukone's exit from the film 'Spirit.' The actress was initially slated to star opposite Prabhas but reportedly stepped away from the project due to disagreements over certain demands. These included profit-sharing, an eight-hour workday, and other terms that reportedly didn't align with the filmmaker's vision. Following her exit, the makers brought Triptii Dimri on board as the new lead. Speaking about pay disparity in the industry, the 'Maharaj' director acknowledged that while the conversation has been ongoing for years, the landscape is gradually shifting. Pointing to top stars like Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt, Siddharth noted that they are now among the highest-paid actors in the business. According to Siddharth, remuneration in the industry is closely tied to an actor's box office pull. 'The truth is, pay depends on your star power. The first few days of a film rely on the actor's draw. After that, it's the director's job to sustain interest. It's not just about gender—it's about economics. Kajol recalls her first meeting with Ajay Devgn: ‘No lightning struck moment, we were both dating others at the time'

Kajol and Ajay Devgn , one of Bollywood's most enduring couples, didn't have the fairy-tale start many might imagine. In a recent interview with Radio Nasha, Kajol candidly recalled her first meeting with Ajay on the sets of the 1995 film Hulchul, debunking any romanticised notions of a 'Raj-Simran' moment like in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. 'He was just really, really quiet' 'There was nothing of that sort,' Kajol said when asked if sparks flew the first time she met Ajay. 'I mean, he was really, really like he is today also. He doesn't talk much. On set or off set, he's just quiet. A really, really quiet man.' She shared that during those long hours on set, she couldn't understand how someone could remain so silent. 'We've been sitting on set for 8-10 hours. Besides 'Hi', 'Hello', 'How are you?' — how can you not talk?' she said, joking that unlike someone practising Vipassana, normal people do engage in conversation. From opposites to soulmates Kajol admitted that their personalities were poles apart. 'I like people. I get along very well with certain people... and he was just really the opposite of everything,' she added. Interestingly, both Ajay and Kajol were dating other people at the time. 'So it was not a 'lightning struck' or anything like that. But yeah, I think eventually we kind of came together and yeah... we got married. Of course,' she smiled. Kajol Gets CANDID About Motherhood Lessons and Son Yug's Debut In 'Karate Kids: Legends' | Exclusive Kajol on navigating marriage and movies with Ajay In a separate interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Kajol opened up about the realities of being married to someone in the same profession. While she and Ajay have shared the screen in several films, she revealed that working together isn't always smooth sailing. '90% of the time, if he is going over the top, I just call him out on it — and he calls me out on it. We're not civilised. We will not take it to the corner,' she laughed. However, she added that such moments are rare since they work together 'once in five years.' Kajol and Ajay have two children, Nysa, born in 2003, who is currently pursuing her higher studies abroad, and Yug, born in 2010, who is still in school.
