Police arrest man for alleged molestation in Bayan Lepas
GEORGE TOWN: Police have confirmed the arrest of a 24-year-old foreign man who allegedly molested a woman near an apartment in Bayan Lepas.
A video of the suspect being confronted recently went viral online.
George Town OCPD ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad reported that the arrest followed a police report lodged by the 38-year-old victim at about 12.45am on Tuesday.
According to Abdul, the woman claimed the suspect groped her breast during the incident at about 11.15pm on Monday (June 2).
"We have arrested the suspect following the report, and he is currently being remanded to assist in investigations under Section 354 of the Penal Code for outraging a person's modesty.
"The case will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor for further action once investigations are completed," he said on Thursday (June 5).
Abdul also confirmed that police were acting on the viral video showing the suspect being questioned and expressed appreciation for the public's assistance in apprehending the suspect.

Couple held for series of housebreakings, robberies
MELAKA: Police have arrested a couple suspected of involvement in seven housebreaking and robbery cases in Melaka and neighbouring states since January this year. In a separate development, he said a clothing dealer was arrested for allegedly firing a shot with an air pistol at Jalan Johor, Semabok, on June 8. 'Following intelligence gathering and public tip-off, the 35-year-old suspect was arrested in Puchong, Selangor, on June 17. Police also seized a black bag, a silver-black air pistol bearing the inscription Pietro Beretta Gardone V.T., a speed loader, and 30 ball-bearing bullets. The suspect has been remanded for seven days until June 23 to assist in the investigation under Section 33 of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief. The case is still under investigation, and he urged the public not to speculate, as it could interfere with the ongoing probe.

Sessions Court Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad discharged and acquitted Mohd Jamri Basir, after ruling that the prosecution had failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt against Jamri. The court made the decision at the end of the defence stage. On the first count, Mohd Jamri was accused of having 158.6gm of cannabis at 10.30pm on May 15, 2020 at Angkasa Apartment in Jalan Tuaran Bypass, here.
