Darryl Strawberry has lived two different existences.
There was Strawberry the major league baseball star who won four World Series rings with the Mets and Yankees, but never reached his full Hall of Fame potential in part because of a cocaine addiction.
That part of Strawberry's story has been well-told over the years in various formats, including books authored by the former outfielder, whose No. 18 was retired by the Mets last year.
Now Strawberry is collaborating on a project that will focus on his new existence leading a Christian ministry. The book, 'Another Life,' co-written by Jerome Preisler, is scheduled for publication in 2026.

The Chicago Cubs are one of the better teams in baseball right now, but they still need to find some upgrades across the roster if they want the best chance to win the National League pennant and the World Series. The Cubs need to upgrade their bullpen as much as any spot on their roster, and it's likely they will turn to the trade market to do so. FanSided's Christopher Kline recently suggested the Cubs could look to trade for Pittsburgh Pirates reliever David Bednar in a rare intra-divisional deal between two National League Central rivals. CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - JUNE 13: David Bednar #51 and Henry Davis #32 of the Pittsburgh Pirates celebrate their team's win against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on June 13, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois. CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - JUNE 13: David Bednar #51 and Henry Davis #32 of the Pittsburgh Pirates celebrate their team's win against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on June 13, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois."After a cataclysmic 2024 season, David Bednar has returned to form for the Pittsburgh Pirates," Kline wrote. "He's not the perennial All-Star candidate he was a few years ago, but Bednar can pick up timely outs and miss a ton of bats with his blistering fastball and devastating curveball. "The Pirates have been resistant to Bednar trade overtures in the past, but with no path to contention and pennies to pinch for Bob Nutting, perhaps this is the season in which Ben Cherington and the front office relent. Sending Bednar to a division rival probably isn't on Pittsburgh's wishlist, but the Cubs offer a deep reservoir of quality prospects to dangle in trade talks." Bednar was once one of the top closers in the game of baseball, but he struggled early in the year. After getting off to a slow start, he's found his groove again, which makes him a very intriguing trade chip. The Cubs could part ways with a few top 30 prospects in order to land the veteran righty. Adding him to a bullpen with Ryan Pressly would be a dream come true, especially if the two can continue to trend in the right direction. Bednar would be the perfect combination of performance and affordability for the Cubs to swing a trade. More MLB: Phillies Predicted To Cut Ties With Struggling Young Catcher This Season

Blue Jays' Max Scherzer expected to come off the IL and start on Wednesday at Cleveland

TORONTO (AP) — Three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer is expected to be activated from the 60-day injured list to start for Toronto at Cleveland on Wednesday, manager John Schneider said after the Blue Jays' 4-2 loss to the White Sox on Sunday. 'He's ready to go,' Schneider said of Scherzer, adding that the veteran right-hander will likely be capable of throwing as many as 90 pitches. Scherzer was declared ready to return after throwing between 30 and 40 pitches in a bullpen session Sunday morning. 'Really, really excited to have him back,' Schneider said. 'That's a huge, huge, obviously, addition to us. It's Max Scherzer. I'll take that any day of the week.' At Columbus last Wednesday, Scherzer gave up two runs, struck out four and walked none over 4 1/3 innings in the second of two rehab starts for Triple-A Buffalo. The previous Friday, Scherzer struck out eight in 4 1/3 scoreless innings for the Bisons in a home start against Worcester. The 40-year-old Scherzer signed a one-year, $15.5 million deal with the Blue Jays in February. He left his Toronto debut against Baltimore on March 29 after three innings because of soreness in his right lat muscle. The next day, Toronto put Scherzer on the injured list because of inflammation in his thumb. Scherzer has had two cortisone injections this season to relieve inflammation in his troublesome thumb. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list last month, but became eligible to return May 29. He went 2-4 with a 3.95 ERA in nine starts for Texas last season, starting the year on the injured list while recovering from lower back surgery. Scherzer said earlier this season that his sore thumb, which also impacted his 2022 and 2023 seasons, was also an issue in 2024. Scherzer won World Series titles with Washington in 2019 and Texas in 2023. He won his first Cy Young Award after going 21-3 with a 2.90 ERA in 32 starts for Detroit in 2013. The eight-time All-Star earned consecutive NL Cy Young Awards with the Nationals in 2016 and 2017. Scherzer has a career record of 216-112 with a 3.16 ERA in 467 games, including 458 starts. He has 3,408 strikeouts in 2,881 innings. ___ AP MLB:
