Everyone is equal before law irrespective of stature, Congress tells BRS working president KTR

Hyderabad: The Congress on Wednesday strongly hit back at BRS working president KT Rama Rao for questioning summons issued to his father and former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao by the PC Ghose commission inquiring into the alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram irrigation project.

Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said that anyone who committed a mistake warranting action as per the law must face legal consequences, irrespective of their stature.
'The previous BRS govt misused projects such as Kaleshwaram, Dharani and Mission Bhagiratha to financially strengthen the BRS party. KCR, the self-proclaimed father of Telangana, is also not above the law and will have to face action if he has committed any wrongdoing in the project,' Ponguleti alleged.
Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy said that all those who appeared before the Ghose commission had agreed to an open court hearing, except KCR.
'Why did KCR ask for a one-on-one questioning by the Ghose commission? KTR is unable to digest that his father was required to appear before the commission. The Congress govt does not believe in vendetta politics. It is the Congress that gave statehood to Telangana, and without it, neither KCR nor KTR could have become the CM and minister, respectively.
It is the previous BRS govt that plunged the state into a debt trap and inflated the Kaleshwaram project cost from Rs 35,000 crore to Rs one lakh crore,' he alleged.
'If KCR had constructed the Kaleshwaram project in China with such inferior quality, he would have faced the death sentence,' Kiran Kumar Reddy alleged.
Earlier in the day, in an informal chat with reporters in New Delhi, chief minister A Revanth Reddy said the Congress never indulged in vendetta politics since it came to power in Telangana.

Telangana Dy CM Bhatti Vikramarka announces 2 per cent DA hike for power employees

HYDERABAD: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday announced a nearly 2% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for Power department employees. He said the state government, giving priority to employee welfare, has decided to enhance the DA by 1.944% for power employees and pensioners. The revised DA will benefit 71,417 employees and pensioners across the state. The DA has been raised from 14.074% to 16.018%, with retrospective effect from January this year. The revision will impose an additional monthly burden of Rs 11.193 crore on power utilities. Addressing employees of the power department at Praja Bhavan, the deputy chief minister said the revised DA would also apply to artisans, along with power employees and pensioners. 'Telangana should emerge as a guiding force in the power sector for the entire country. The state government is moving ahead with a well-structured strategy to achieve this. Electricity has become as essential to industrial production in today's competitive world as air is to life,' he said. Peak power demand Referring to demand trends, Vikramarka pointed out that in March 2023, when the BRS was in power, the peak power demand stood at 15,000 MW. 'After the Congress assumed office in December 2023, the demand rose to 17,162 MW by March 2025, an increase of over 2,000 MW. Despite this rise, the government and power employees had ensured uninterrupted and quality power supply,' he said. Vikramarka said the state anticipates a further steep rise in demand. Citing a report by a central agency, he stated that Telangana's peak power demand is projected to reach 26,299 MW by 2029–30 and 33,773 MW by 2034–35. The deputy chief minister added that the government was planning ahead to boost power generation capacity to meet these future requirements. He said that following the formation of the Congress government, the Green Energy Policy-2025 had been introduced, targeting the production of 20,000 MW of green power by 2029-30. He urged the power sector workforce to be prepared to face future challenges and reiterated that the government and employees together formed an ideal working partnership.

Demand Bharat Ratna for Jyotirao Phule: V Hanumantha Rao to CM Revanth Reddy

HYDERABAD: Veteran Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao on Saturday requested Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to recommend India's highest civilian honour — Bharat Ratna — for prominent social reformer, thinker and writer Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. He also urged the government to give tax exemption to Phule, the biopic of the 19th century reformer. In a letter addressed to the CM, Hanumantha Rao noted that Phule encouraged women's education and fought against discrimination and suppression of downtrodden communities. He said that Phule fought against the practice of tonsuring the heads of widows. 'You are well aware that a similar concept (social justice) is being adopted by our beloved leader, Rahul Gandhi Ji, who has taken up Bharat Jodo Yatra wherein he stressed the need for Kitni Hissidari Utne Bhagidari. Rahul, while following the ideologies of Phule, is striving to bring about this major change in present-day society,' he said.

Arrested for ‘extortion', BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy gets bail

HANAMKONDA: BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy was arrested late on Friday at the RGI Airport at Shamshabad in connection with an alleged extortion case and released on bail within 18 hours. The Special Judicial Magistrate of First Class for Railway Cases in Kazipet, Ch Leela Naga Susmitha, rejected the police request for remand and granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 20,000 and surety from two persons. The arrest followed a complaint lodged on April 21, 2025, at Subedari police station by Katta Umadevi, wife of Manoj Reddy, a resident of Excise Colony, Hanamkonda. In her complaint, Umadevi said that her husband, who runs a granite business in Vangapally of Kamalapur mandal, had been under mental stress for 20 days. The complainant claimed that Manoj Reddy revealed to her that Kaushik Reddy threatened and extorted Rs 25 lakh from him to allow the continuation of his granite business in Huzurabad. BRS cadre stage protest at Subedari police station Umadevi further stated that on April 18, 2025, Kaushik Reddy allegedly called her husband again, demanding Rs 50 lakh and threatening to harm their family if the demand was not met. Based on her complaint, Subedari police registered a case under Sections 308(2), 308(4), and 352 of the BNS. Earlier, Kaushik Reddy had approached the High Court seeking to quash the FIR. On June 16, the court dismissed his plea and directed him to cooperate with the investigation. The interim protection from arrest granted earlier was vacated. Following news of the MLA's arrest, a large number of BRS activists gathered at the Subedari police station. Former minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao and former government chief whip Dasyam Vinay Kumar were among those who reached the station and staged a protest demanding access to the MLA. The police allowed them to meet him inside the station. The activists also attempted to burn an effigy of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy in front of the police station but were detained and taken to Madikonda police station. Later, Subedari police took Kaushik Reddy to MGM Hospital in Warangal for a medical examination before producing him in the Kazipet Railway Court.
