Ambassador Anne Lafortune represents Seychelles at the Forum on China-Africa Coordination (FOCAC) Coordinators meeting in Changsha
On Wednesday 11th June 2025, Ambassador Anne Lafortune, the Seychelles Resident Ambassador in Beijing, People's Republic of China, attended the Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators on the Implementation of the Follow-up Actions of the Forum on China-Africa Coordination (FOCAC) Summit, the latter was held in Beijing in September 2024.
The meeting took stock of the current achievements since the 2024 FOCAC Summit, and discussed ways to advance the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and its Action Plan (2025-2027), which outlined China-Africa cooperation for the three years.
The platform, which will commemorate its 25th anniversary since its establishment in October 2000, remains an important mechanism of collaboration between China and African nations, focusing on a win-win partnership and mutual prosperity.
In her statement, Ambassador Lafortune reaffirmed Seychelles' commitment to the implementation of the principles and objectives of the FOCAC, which continue to unlock Africa's full potential. She commended President Xi's ten (10) partnership actions announced in September 2024, which responded to the evolving and distinct development needs of African countries. She also stated that 'Seychelles is proud to be part of this transformative endeavour'.
She further emphasised that as a Small Island Developing State (SIDS), Seychelles values the support of the Government of China, which aligns closely with its national development strategy. Highlighting the excellent Sino-Seychelles relations, which have flourished over the years, creating pathways for sustainable growth and development, as the two countries near the significant milestone of 50 years of diplomatic ties next year.
Ambassador Lafortune will also attend the special sessions of the Fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE), under the theme 'China and Africa: Together Towards Modernisation', supporting the economic and trade initiatives defined in the Ten Partnership Action. The Expo

Poland has evacuated 200 citizens from Israel and Jordan and moved it diplomatic staff in Iran to Azerbaijan. Greece evacuated 105 of its citizens and foreign nations from Israel. The Japanese government is planning to send a military plane Djibouti to evacuate its citizens from Iran and Israel.

Chinese mobile operators cut operational emissions
The Chinese mobile operation industry recently reduced their operational emissions for the first time in 2024. However the volume of mobile data traffic has nearly quadrupled since 2019. As a whole the industry has begun taking actions to improve its energy efficiency and increased the use of renewables. Before the decline last year, previous analyses found regular annual increases in emissions in China, which rose 7 per cent between 2019 and 2023. Energy consumption grew 30 per cent since 2019 as data consumption soared with the nationwide rollout of 5G services, with the nation ending 2024 with just over 1 billion 5G connections. Steven Moore, head of climate action at the GSMA, stated the opportunity in China is enormous, as operators can propel the industry forward in its efforts towards net zero. 'A lot more needs to be done, and it is encouraging to see the mobile industry in Greater China making progress in this way', he noted. 'However, this first decrease is only realised if it goes further next year. We must double down and ensure we are doing everything we can as a global industry to halve emissions by 2030'. The Mobile Net Zero: Greater China report, released at the event, noted the drop in emissions comes as a growing number of mobile operators in the region are setting voluntary climate targets. Four operators in Asia Pacific have validated near-term science-based targets, while three have validated net zero targets. Several key suppliers also have committed to science-based targets and 2050 net zero targets. Hong Kong stocks set for biggest weekly loss since April on trade, Mideast jitters
20 June 2025 09:22 SHANGHAI (REUTERS)Hong Kong stocks rebounded on Friday after three sessions of losses but remained on track for their biggest weekly loss since April, as Sino-US trade talks and Middle East tensions weighed on investor sentiment. Mainland China shares edged blue-chip CSI300 Index climbed 0.2% by the lunch break while the Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.1%. Hong Kong benchmark Hang Seng was up 1.2%.China kept its benchmark lending rates unchanged, after rolling out sweeping monetary easing measures last month to support the uncertainties related to China-US trade friction, onshore share valuations may be range-bound at low levels near term, said UBS strategist Lei Meng in a note."We expect limited downside, and potential upside catalysts mainly from stronger policy easing, the continual entry of medium or long-term funds and structural reforms," Meng and Iran's conflict entered a second week and fears of a potential US attack on Iran hung over markets in Asia, impacting overall risk sentiment.
