MIAMI — Minister of Communications and Information Technology Eng. Abdullah Al-Swaha affirmed that Saudi Arabia has become a strategic partner for the United States and the world in bridging digital gaps and leading the transformation toward the "smart age". In his speech at the main session of the third edition of the Future Investment Initiative (FII Priority) Summit held in Miami, US, under the title 'Investing with Purpose,' AlSawaha underscored Saudi Arabia's efforts and ambitious vision to enhance global cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.He pointed out that Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, launched by Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, constituted 'the most prominent success story of the twenty-first century', with the country's digital economy reaching nearly $132 billion, contributing 50% of the regional digital economy of $260 billion. He noted the increase in the number of technical talents in Saudi Arabia from 150,000 to 381,000.He highlighted the interest of major global investors such as Oracle, Google, and Microsoft, which made Saudi Arabia one of the fastest growing technology centers in the world.Al-Sawaha concluded his speech by calling on the world to consider Saudi Arabia as the ideal partner to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence.He expressed his confidence in the ability of international cooperation to overcome challenges and reach the stage of sustainable productivity in this field, appreciating the role of the Future Investment Initiative in bringing together thought and investment leaders to create the future of technology.On the sidelines of the summit, Al-Sawaha met with Oracle CEO Safra Ada Katz to discuss expanding the partnership in the fields of cloud computing and artificial intelligence, and its role in supporting the digital economy in Saudi Arabia.
He also met with NEA CEO Tony Florence to discuss supporting tech entrepreneurs and stimulating investment in tech and innovation startups in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) is slated to enforce its decision to introduce a new set of regulations in its livestock markets as of June 26, mandating sale by weight rather than size. The new rules are aimed at clamping down on the longstanding profiteering of livestock sales across public markets nationwide, ensuring fair pricing for both producers and consumers, according to a ministerial statement picked up by Argaam. The decision supports the Kingdom's drive towards environmental and economic sustainability as well as aligns with the Saudi Vision 2030 goals. The ministry set out guidelines to standardize the weighing and selling of slaughter-ready animals, while preserving animal wealth and eliminating market monopoly. The framework seeks to maximize benefits, promote fairness and transparency, and enhance service quality and sustainability in public markets. The rules cover livestock inside and outside pens. For pen sales, livestock cannot be sold without a pre-recorded weight. Weights must be measured using approved scales that meet official standards, and pen operators must supply the scales. Sellers must ensure accuracy, regularly maintain and clean weighing equipment to prevent diseases, besides providing safe conditions that avoid harming or stressing animals. All weight transactions must be logged with the respective date, animal type, recorded weight, and any additional data required by authorities. Weighing must be visible to both parties, and buyers must be allowed to dispute and request a reweigh. Fraud, scale tampering, or any misleading practices are banned. Ministry inspectors can suspend any non-compliant scale until compliance with the set standards. Operators must also cooperate with inspectors and provide requested information. Staff must be trained in proper weighing procedures to ensure accuracy and efficiency. Outside the pens, in public market areas, sales must also follow certified weighing procedures.

Al-Rajhi: Employee engagement rate in public sector reaches 83.4%

Ahmed Al-Rajhi said that the Saudi employee engagement indicators for the year 2024 has achieved tangible positive results. "The employee engagement rate for public sector employees reached 83.4 percent, exceeding the set annual target of 76.5 percent. This reflects growing institutional awareness and the authorities' keenness to improve work environments and promote a culture of professional commitment," he said while addressing the annual ceremony of honoring government agencies that achieved the highest levels of employee engagement in 2024. The minister presented the Employee Engagement Award to nine government agencies during the ceremony, which was attended by several government officials and representatives of government agencies. In his speech, Al-Rajhi emphasized that the Employee Engagement Program embodies the interest and support of the wise leadership for the public sector. "This program reflects the ministry's commitment to strengthening the role of human capital as a fundamental pillar in the transition to a more efficient government work environment. The program contributes to consolidating a sense of belonging and initiative, raising the quality of services provided to beneficiaries, and enhancing performance efficiency," he said. Al-Rajhi reviewed the most notable achievements during 2024, such as the Cabinet's approval of the National Program for Succession and Leadership Development, the launch of the Promising Leaders Program, the qualification of more than 120 government leaders through academic programs and leadership forums, the launch of the engineering salary scale regulations, and the launch of several electronic services that contribute to supporting corporate governance in the government sector. Deputy Minister for Human Capital Development Fahad Al-Drees made a presentation on the Employee Engagement Measurement Initiative, which included a comprehensive assessment of levels of satisfaction and professional commitment. He also introduced the "Motivating Work Environment Program" and the "Institutional Engagement Platform," which enables government agencies to monitor moral performance indicators and improve motivation strategies. The ceremony included panel discussions and a presentation of several success stories in the field of employee engagement within government agencies. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has won first place in the government ministries category, while the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing came in second, and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology emerged third. In the institutions, councils, and public bodies category, the National Competitiveness Center bagged the first place, the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property came in second, and the General Authority for Endowments bagged the third place. In the educational and training institutions category, Al-Majmaa University has won first place, followed by Najran University, and Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University. It is noteworthy that the Career Engagement Program is one of the strategic initiatives of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development. Saudi culture sector to triple GDP share to $48bn by 2030, says minister
JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia plans to raise the cultural sector's contribution to gross domestic product to 3 percent — or SR180 billion ($48 billion) — by 2030, up from under 1 percent, according to Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan. In an interview with Al-Eqtisadiah, the minister said the sector has already surpassed its previous 0.91 percent GDP share, with Vision 2030 targets being met ahead of schedule. 'Vision 2030 forms the foundation of the Ministry of Culture's strategy and direction,' he said. 'By 2030, we envision a cultural environment that nurtures talent, encourages innovation both locally and internationally, and supports the flourishing of creative and cultural enterprises.' Prince Badr said in the interview. 'Ultimately, our goal is to increase the sector's contribution to GDP to 3 percent, equivalent to SR180 billion,' he said. 'This represents the core mission of the Ministry of Culture and its affiliated bodies in driving an ambitious cultural transformation.' Since the ministry's founding in 2018, employment in the sector has jumped 318 percent, while the number of cultural graduates reached 28,800 in 2024, up 79 percent from 2018. The ministry has also issued over 9,000 licenses, while cultural associations and amateur clubs surged from 28 to 993. 'One notable outcome is the increase in the percentage of citizens who believe culture is important—from under 70 percent to 92 percent,' Prince Badr said. The ministry also oversees national celebrations such as Founding Day and Flag Day and has documented 9,317 antiquities sites and 25,000 urban heritage locations. Saudi Arabia has now met its Vision 2030 target of having eight UNESCO World Heritage sites, with Al-Faw joining the list in 2024. Cultural event attendance exceeded 23.5 million between 2021 and 2024, and major festivals such as the Red Sea Film Festival and Islamic Arts Biennale have become global draws. The Cultural Scholarship Program has awarded scholarships to 1,222 students studying at over 120 institutions across countries, including the US, the UK, and France. The program's flexible design — no age limit or required academic background — has broadened participation. 'Today, scholarship recipients are pursuing degrees in fields such as music, theater, and visual arts,' the minister said. Through the Cultural Development Fund, the ministry has disbursed SR377 million to more than 120 projects. 'Key areas of growth include heritage, music, and fashion. More than 1,200 creatives and entrepreneurs have benefited from its development services,' he added. 'Globally, there is increasing recognition of culture's role in sustainable economic value creation,' the minister said. 'Our role is to preserve and promote cultural identity while making it accessible and economically valuable.'
