LPA outside PAR 'high' chance to turn into storm — PAGASA
The low pressure area (LPA) monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has a 'high' chance of becoming a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, PAGASA said Sunday afternoon. At 2 p.m., the LPA was located 2,530 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon. For now, the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) are expected to affect the weather conditions in several areas across the country, according to the state weather bureau's 4 p.m. weather forecast. Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms will persist over the over Davao Region and Surigao del Sur due to the ITCZ. Metro Manila, CALABARZON, SOCCSKSARGEN, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan will see the same weather conditions due to the Habagat. These moderate to at times heavy rains may cause flash floods and landslides. The Habagat will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, and the rest of Central Luzon and MIMAROPA. The same weather conditions will be observed throughout the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms. These severe thunderstorms may trigger flash floods and landslides. State meteorologists also said winds will be light to moderate, while coastal waters will be slight to moderate throughout the country. Sunrise in Metro Manila will be at 5:29 a.m. on Monday.—Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News

Teachers in Sarangani brave flooded river to get home
Several teachers were caught in a dangerous situation as they attempted to cross a swollen river after heavy rains triggered flooding in Sitio Banlas, Barangay Kihan, Malapatan, Sarangani. The incident happened on Thursday, June 19, 2025. According to one of the teachers, Jailene Tusan, who uploaded the video, they were on their way home from Akbual Elementary School in Barangay Upper Suyan when they saw the river's rough waters. To get across and return home safely, some concerned residents volunteered to assist the teachers through the strong current. Tusan said there is no bridge in the area, which was why they had to cross the river by riding habal-habal motorcycles. GMA Regional TV One Mindanao is reaching out to the school officials for a statement, as of this writing. Meanwhile, in Zamboanga City, floodwaters submerged parts of Sta. Catalina, including the open field of an elementary school on Friday, June 20, 2025. Parents also struggled fetching their children from school because classrooms were also affected. A parent has called on the government to address the persistent flooding at the school every during downpour. 'Kung aabot sa gobyerno, sila kung ano ang maitulong nila roon, at least siyempre yung epekto roon sa mga bata,' a parent, Javier Munap Amirul, said. In Zamboanga Sibugay, floodwaters entered the houses in Purok Uno, Veterans Village, Ipil town due to continuous rainfall. State weather bureau PAGASA said the flooding in some parts of Mindanao is due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone. In its forecast early morning on Saturday, June 21, 2025, PAGASA said the ITCZ would bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, SOCCSKSARGEN, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, and Palawan, and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of Mindanao. —GMA Regional TV News
