Trinamool-backed mob attacked my convoy, police stood mute: BJP's Sukanta Majumdar
Union Minister and BJP leader Dr Sukanta Majumdar on Friday alleged that his official convoy was subjected to a 'brutal, orchestrated attack' by Trinamool Congress (TMC)-backed criminal mobs while he was visiting Diamond Harbour on June 19. He further alleged that the state police did not take any action despite being present there. In a formal letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Majumdar described the incident as a 'grave breach of privilege' and an assault on democratic principles.advertisementMajumdar wrote on X, 'Yesterday in Budge Budge, Diamond Harbour, I was subjected to a brutal, orchestrated attack by TMC-backed criminal mobs, while the West Bengal Police stood as mute, spineless spectators.'
He said that even though he is a sitting Member of Parliament and Union Minister of State, the West Bengal police failed to take any preventive action or respond to the attack.'This is a grave breach of parliamentary privilege—a direct and dangerous assault on Indian democracy,' Majumdar stated.
In his letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Majumdar detailed the events, asserting that his convoy was 'gheraoed and violently attacked by a mob reportedly comprising workers of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Stones were pelted, vehicles were vandalised, and many persons accompanying me were injured.' He emphasised that the attack posed a 'direct and serious threat' to his life.advertisement"On June 19, while I was visiting Diamond Harbour to meet the victims of political violence and assess the law-and-order situation in the area, my official convoy was gheraoed and violently attacked by a mob reportedly comprising workers of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Stones were pelted at my convoy, vehicles were vandalised, and many persons accompanying me were injured. The attack posed a direct and serious threat to my life and the lives of those present," Majumdar wrote in his letter.Majumdar also directly named Superintendent of Police Rahul Goswami for alleged inaction despite being present during the incident."What is even more alarming is that during this heinous incident, the Superintendent of Police (Rahul Goswami) was physically present at the location but failed to take any preventive or protective action, amounting to wilful negligence, dereliction of duty, and enabling of political violence. The SDPO of Diamond Harbour, was not present at the site, in spite of prior information of my visit to the place," he wrote.
The minister credited his Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) security detail for containing the situation. "The situation was brought under control only due to the timely intervention of the CISF security personnel assigned to me as I am having the 2 Security Cover in West Bengal given by the Union Government."advertisementMajumdar further called the incident 'a direct assault on the dignity and privilege of a Member of Parliament.'"Such acts of violence and inaction by state officials severely compromise the democratic functioning of our institutions and the constitutional rights granted to elected members of this House," he added. The minister urged the Speaker to take note of the matter and refer the same to the Committee of Privileges for appropriate examination and action.Must Watch

BSF recovers drone carrying 7kg ICE from near border in Amritsar
Amritsar: The Border Security Force (BSF) intercepted a drone carrying a large haul of Methamphetamine (ICE) along the border in Amritsar early on Friday morning. The operation was executed based on precise intelligence gathered by the BSF intelligence wing, said officials. The Border Security Force (BSF) intercepted a drone carrying a large haul of Methamphetamine (ICE) along the border in Amritsar early on Friday morning. The operation was executed based on precise intelligence gathered by the BSF intelligence wing, said officials. At around 2.30am, BSF troops deployed advanced technical countermeasures to detect and intercept a drone suspected of carrying contraband. The drone was intercepted over a suspected dropping zone near Mode village, located in Amritsar district. A subsequent search of the area led to the discovery of a black bag containing seven packets of Methamphetamine, totaling 7.47kg. The drugs were found in an irrigated agricultural field, highlighting the growing trend of drones being used to smuggle narcotics into India. In the aftermath of the incident, Punjab Police and BSF authorities have launched a joint investigation into the origin of the drugs and the network behind the smuggling operations. The investigation is expected to focus on identifying the people who operate the drones, as well as the cross-border linkages involved in the trafficking network. This operation follows two other significant recoveries by the BSF in Tarn Taran and Ferozepur districts on Wednesday. In a series of coordinated operations, BSF troops successfully recovered two additional drones used for smuggling. An official release from the BSF confirmed the recovery of a DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone from a farming field near Kalia village, located in the Tarn Taran district. Later the same day, in a separate operation, BSF personnel, in collaboration with the Punjab Police, recovered another DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone from a farming field adjacent to Gendhu Kilcha village in Ferozepur district. Both drones were believed to be used for illicit operations aimed at smuggling narcotics, weapons, or other contraband into India from across the border. The use of drones to transport drugs and weapons from across the border has become a growing concern for Indian security forces. The drones are typically used to fly over the border fence, dropping their payloads in pre-designated areas where accomplices on the ground quickly collect them.

Amit Shah a disgrace to the post once held by Sardar Patel: Jairam Ramesh
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on Friday launched a direct attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing him of failing to "bring the terrorists who carried out the brutal terror attacks in Pahalgam to justice," and restoring peace in Manipur. "Amit Shah is a disgrace to the position once held by the indomitable Sardar," claimed Ramesh. "The Union Home Minister has failed singularly in bringing the terrorists who carried out the brutal terror attacks in Pahalgam to justice. These terrorists had reportedly also been involved in terror attacks at Poonch (Dec 2023) and at Gagangir and Gulmarg (Oct 2024)," his post said. "The Union Home Minister has failed miserably to restore even a semblance of peace and normalcy in Manipur. All that he has accomplished is to provide guaranteed employment to his son. Now the Union Home Minister makes the most ridiculous of statements. Millions of Indians each speak more Indian languages - in addition to English - than him. He is a disgrace to the position once held by the indomitable Sardar," said the post from Ramesh. Ramesh called the visit a "publicity-driven exercise" that fails to address the ground realities of the state. "The advertisement-loving Prime Minister is once again on a tour of matter how many fake announcements the Prime Minister makes, no matter how many ribbons he cuts for free advertising, the truth is that the double engine government in Bihar has completely failed to meet the expectations of the common people," his post read. "In Bihar, oppression against the deprived classes is at its peak, the law and order situation is extremely bad, criminals have become unbridled and the common citizens are helpless. Every day there are reports of murder, robbery and violence against youth do not have any employment in the state and they are forced to migrate from Bihar," he said. "During this visit, the Prime Minister will also express his electoral concern about the pollution of Mother Ganga .But the truth is that in the last 11 years, 'Ganga cleansing' has become just an election slogan, which is suddenly remembered before every election. Not only in Bihar, Mother Ganga has become more polluted than before in the entire country. Most of the schemes launched in the name of Ganga cleanliness campaign have proved to be a black hole of corruption-After the foundation stone laying, inauguration and heavy publicity, neither any work is visible nor any concrete National Green Tribunal (NGT) itself is exposing the terrible condition of Ganga pollution in Patna and Bihar," added Ramesh.
