Shipbuilding and repair cluster to be established in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh

DoneVijayawada: A shipbuilding and repair cluster will be established at Dugarajapatnam in Nellore district, in a major fillip to the industrial sector in the state.An initial feasibility report has been prepared for the establishment of the cluster—a promise made in the AP Bifurcation Act, 2014.
According to the feasibility report, the cluster will come up on 2,000 acres through central and state govt collaboration.The plan includes setting up a greenfield port integrated with a shipbuilding and repair hub featuring four dry docks, outfitting jetties, and a ship-lift facility. Of the 2,000 acres, 1,000 acres will be allocated for core shipbuilding units and the other 1,000 acres for ancillary industries. The estimated central investment for the project is 3,500 crore, and the govt of Andhra Pradesh will contribute land as equity.A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will be formed for implementation and attracting leading global players in the shipbuilding sector. Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu chaired a meeting with officials from the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, including the secretary TK Ramachandran. The discussions focused on fast-tracking port infrastructure and maritime development projects in Andhra Pradesh.The officials informed the CM that the project is expected to bring 26,000 crore in investments over the next five years and can generate direct employment for 5,000 people and create indirect employment for approximately 30,000 more. Naidu instructed officials to formulate a detailed action plan to take the project forward. Other ongoing port and coastal development initiatives were also reviewed during the meeting.Additionally, Naidu urged central officials to make cargo movement via Visakhapatnam Port more cost-effective, recognizing it as a key strategic asset for the state.The CM was also briefed on emerging opportunities in cruise tourism. He directed officials to explore river cruise circuits in picturesque regions like Polavaram, Srisailam, and Nagarjuna Sagar to boost tourism and local economies.

In a landmark policy presentation at the State Secretariat on Monday during the celebrations of Suparipalanalo Tholi Adugu (First Step in Good Governance) on the occasion of the first anniversary of the NDA government, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu unveiled the government's ambitious 'Swarna Andhra @2047' vision, setting forth a comprehensive roadmap to restore the State's economy, governance, infrastructure, and social fabric. BJP A.P. president D. Purandeswari, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and all the Ministers, MLAs, MPs and others participated in the meeting. Citing the NITI Aayog's report on debt sustainability, he pointed out huge public debt, diversion of funds, and a near-zero score on financial health. 'The people's verdict is against destruction. It is a call for rebuilding,' said Mr. Naidu. He affirmed the government's commitment to transparency by announcing seven White Papers to document systemic failures from 2019 to 2024. In his first month in office, Mr. Naidu said that he had initiated key reforms like repeal of the AP Land Titling Act, increased pensions under the NTR Bharosa scheme to ₹4,000 for senior citizens and ₹6,000 to ₹15,000 for other vulnerable groups, recruitment of 16,347 teachers via Mega DSC, and revival of 203 Anna Canteens serving over four crore meals at ₹5. Highlighting alignment with the Centre, the CM announced that the double engine government made it possible to ensure ₹15,000 crore for Amaravati, ₹12,500 crore for Polavaram, ₹11,400 crore for Vizag steel plant, allocation of ₹5,000 crore for Orvakal and Kopparthy industrial nodes, and sanction of the long-pending Railway Zone with headquarters at Vizag. Capital plan Mr. Naidu outlined plans to transform Amaravati into a global knowledge hub with a projected population of 3.5 million and 1.5 million jobs by 2050. Backed by global institutions such as the World Bank, ADB, and KfW, the city will be developed as a self-financing project, he added. Describing the Polavaram project as Andhra Pradesh's 'lifeline,' Mr. Naidu criticised the stalling of the project during the previous regime and announced a target completion timeline of 2027, with ₹5,936 crore already sanctioned by the Centre for 2025–26. P4 Model Mr. Naidu explained that the P4 model (Public-Private-People Partnership) as a revolutionary step to eradicate poverty by 2029. Under this, high-net-worth individuals (Margadarsis) will mentor the bottom 20% (Bangaru Kutumbams), with government programmes supplementing this effort. As of June 23, 2025, over 87,000 adoptions were registered under the model. In just 11 months, Andhra Pradesh attracted ₹9.34 lakh crore in investments with the potential to generate 8.5 lakh jobs, prioritising employment over capital intensity. Notable projects include Ashok Leyland (Mallavalli), Ratan Tata Innovation Hub Industrial parks in every Assembly constituency, renewed thrust on aquaculture, tourism, and food processing. He added that the exports in the State rebounded by 5.16%, lifting A.P.'s share of India's total exports from 4.52% to 4.75%. The Chief Minister said that after inheriting a declining economy (GSDP growth averaged 10.3% during 2019–24 compared to 13.5% in 2014–19), the government set an ambitious 12.02% GSDP growth rate in 2024–25, targeting ₹18.65 lakh crore in 2025–26. Amaravati will be developed as a 'Global Knowledge Hub' with quantum tech and innovation clusters. Mr. Naidu emphasised a digital-first governance model, with 703 services to go live on WhatsApp by Independence Day, and gave a call for 'collective action to build a wealthy, healthy, and happy Andhra Pradesh.' The Chief Minister warned of severe action for any disturbance to law and order.

The vehicles did not stop, and the man was rushed to hospital by the police, but was declared maintained that his convoy's route was shared in advance and the government was obligated to provide rope parties, pilot vehicles and bulletproof cars as per Z+ security norms. 'You (the government) assigned the driver, but I had to buy my own bulletproof car,' he said, accusing the Naidu government of shirking its responsibility."How can a government say it will only give security if it feels like it?" Raymond to invest ₹1,200 cr in Andhra; garments, auto, aerospace in focus

Amid rising industrial interest in Andhra Pradesh, Raymond Group plans to invest ₹1,200 crore in the state, focusing on garments, auto components, and aerospace manufacturing, Moneycontrol reported. The proposed investment aligns with Raymond's broader diversification strategy, which extends beyond textiles into engineering, defence and high-precision sectors. The company entered the aerospace and defence space in November 2023 through the ₹682 crore acquisition of a 59.25 per cent stake in Maini Precision Products. The announcement comes as part of the state government's proactive drive to attract investment. Andhra Pradesh is offering capital subsidies of up to 30 per cent and 100 per cent electricity duty exemption for ten years to incentivise industrial activity. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is also focused on developing the Andhra side of the Bengaluru border as an aerospace corridor, state officials told Moneycontrol. Raymond has yet to issue an official statement regarding the proposed investment. Andhra's SIPB clears ₹28,546 crore in new projects Raymond's investment forms part of 19 industrial proposals recently approved by the Andhra Pradesh government. At the seventh meeting of the State-Level Investment Promotion Board (SIPB), projects worth ₹28,546 crore were cleared. Among the major investors is the Adani Group, with commitments totalling ₹18,910 crore. These include a ₹8,010 crore renewable energy project in Kadapa by Adani Renewable Energy Fifty One, and investments worth ₹10,900 crore by Adani Hydro Energy Four and Adani Hydro Energy One across various districts. Together, the Adani projects are expected to create around 10,500 jobs. Other significant proposals include Cognizant Technology Solutions India's ₹1,583 crore centre in Visakhapatnam, projected to create 8,000 jobs in three phases; a ₹1,622 crore facility by Reliance Consumer Products at Orvakal; and a ₹2,323 crore green energy project by Chinta Green Energy in Kadapa. High job potential across sectors Collectively, the 19 approved projects are expected to generate employment for 30,270 individuals across the state. Since its inception, the SIPB has approved ₹5,34,684 crore worth of investments over seven meetings, with a projected job creation potential of 4,73,969 roles—signalling Andhra's strategic push to become a national manufacturing and innovation hub.
