Death of Premier Inn receptionist who suffered horror fall at Scots hotel to be probed at FAI
Garry Anderson suffered horror injuries after an incident at a Premier Inn Hotel in Dundee and later died.
A Fatal Accident Inquiry (FAI) is set to be held into the tragic death of a hotel receptionist who fell through a panel on a walkway roof at hotel in Dundee.
Garry Anderson suffered horror injuries after an incident at the Premier Inn Hotel, Kingsway on August 22, 2023. The 62-year-old sadly died two days later on August 24.
The circumstances surrounding Garry's death are set to come under the microscope. The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service announced today that it has lodged a first notice to begin the court process for a discretionary FAI.
The purpose of a Fatal Accident Inquiry (FAI) includes determining the cause of death; the circumstances in which the deaths occurred, and to establish what, if any, reasonable precautions could have been taken, and could be implemented in the future, to minimise the risk of future deaths in similar circumstances.

Procurator Fiscal Andy Shanks, who leads on death investigations for COPFS, said: 'The death of Garry Anderson occurred while in the course of his employment and as such a Fatal Accident Inquiry is mandatory.
'The lodging of the First Notice enables FAI proceedings to commence under the direction of the Sheriff.
'Mr Anderson's family will continue to be kept informed of significant developments as court proceedings progress.'

During a brief hearing today, a court date for his next appearance was set. Riley, who is represented in court by specialist extradition lawyer Renata Pinter, will appear again before the same court next month, on July 18. He was remanded in custody until then. The full hearing, where Riley will challenge extradition, is scheduled for October 9 this year. The Lyons crime clan has been locked in a deadly feud with the rival Daniel mob for a quarter of a century, following the theft of drugs from a Glasgow safe house in 2001. A top Spanish cop told reporters the assassinations of Monaghan and Lyons are part of the feud, claiming that Riley is a member of the Daniel gang. Speaking at a press conference in Spain, Pedro Agudo Novo said: "The double murder was carried out by a professional killer and member of one of the victims' rival gangs. "In this case we are not talking about an independent hired killer but an internal member of the rival Daniels gang who ends up assassinating two members of an enemy gang." Scottish police, who have been investigating the war between the rival crime syndicates for decades, seemed to suggest the killing had nothing to do with their rivalry - or the war on the Daniel mob being waged by Lyons associate Ross McGill. Henchmen of the Dubai-based former Rangers ultra - who headed the Union Bears fan group and is nicknamed 'Miami' - have waged war on the Daniel mob and associates for the last few months. The feud has seen a number of homes, people and businesses targeted in firebombings, knife attacks and shootings, in Glasgow, Edinburgh and surrounding areas, and is being investigated by Police Scotland as part of Operation Portaledge.

Rowan Skinley was walking his three kids home from school when a Cockapoo suddenly lunged at his daughter Bunnie, dragging her to the ground and ripping open her arm, reports the Mirror. The terrifying incident happened on Tuesday near Miers Court Primary School in Kent. Despite the attack leaving the toddler with serious injuries and needing plastic surgery, the dog's owner fled the scene without offering help or leaving any contact details. According to dad Rowen, who says he had to "hold the skin on [Bunnie's] arm together" while she awaited treatment, the dog was a small, sandy-coloured Cockapoo. Kent Police confirmed officers are investigating. Rowen said: "It happened parallel to the school on the main road. I was just walking home after the school run. The path is quite narrow, and a woman was walking her dog on the actual road itself. "Then, out of nowhere, the dog just lunged for my daughter and pulled her to the floor. The owner managed to pull the dog off, but when she did that, it ripped her skin open. I was so shocked. All I had to stop the bleeding was my hands. I had to basically hold her skin together." Rowen said: "People who saw what happened came over and said that my daughter hadn't even put her hand out to the dog. The woman just disappeared. She didn't leave any details or anything." Bunnie was rushed to Medway Maritime Hospital and then transferred to St Thomas' in Westminster the next morning. There, she had several X-rays to ensure the puncture hadn't hit her bone, before undergoing plastic surgery. According to her dad, Bunnie has been left shaken following the incident. She will need to return to hospital within a week for a check-up, and to assess whether she will need further work done. Rowen said: "She's doing well now. She's just a bit shaken and keeps talking about how scared she is of the dog. "She also has a lung condition and really bad asthma so she had to be marked down as a high-risk category for sedation. It's really upsetting that the woman didn't stop because it makes you fear for the safety of other kids." A Kent Police spokesperson confirmed an investigation is ongoing.
