‘Patriotism a unifying force': Jamia joins hands with Association of Indian Universities for a nationwide youth pledge
In a display of collective resolve and patriotic fervour, Jamia Hamdard University in Delhi on Tuesday joined hands with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) to take part in a nationwide youth pledge under the banner 'Yuva Shakti, Bharat Ki Shakti – One Youth, One Nation, One Resolve' at an event.
Held simultaneously across five regions of India, the event was marked with what the university described as 'a powerful expression of the resolve and aspirations of India's youth.' At Jamia Hamdard, the pledge ceremony brought together a large gathering of students, including National Cadet Corps cadets and National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers, who reaffirmed their commitment to national unity, civic responsibility, and the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat, a self-reliant India.
'This event transcended a mere ceremonial gesture,' the university said in a statement Thursday. 'It underscored the belief that patriotism is a unifying force, shared equally across regions, institutions, and communities, and that the future of Bharat lies in the hands of its empowered youth.'
The proceedings at Jamia Hamdard began with a recitation from the Quran, the Islamic holy book , followed by a welcome address by Prof. Reshma Nasreen, Dean of Students' Welfare. The ceremony was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, and featured a cultural invocation and the singing of the National Anthem before the formal pledge was taken.
Prominent dignitaries in attendance included Dr Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General of AIU; Prof. Himani Sood, Pro-Chancellor of Chandigarh University, and Chandan Choudhary, MLA from Sangam Vihar. The university hosted the event under the theme 'Rashtra Pratham.'
Alam, in his address, hailed the national push toward Viksit Bharat by 2047 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He called on students to embody the spirit of unity and empowerment, highlighting the crucial role of youth and women in nation-building.
He drew attention to the courage of women officers in the armed forces, specifically lauding 'exemplary women leaders such as Col. Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh for their valiant roles in Operation Sindoor.'
Reaffirming the university's commitment to inclusive values, Prof. Alam said, 'We are proud to stand with AIU in shaping our nation's youth as the conscience-keepers of Bharat.'
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sarfaraz Ahsan, Registrar (Officiating), who underscored the university's message and mission — 'to empower our youth, to strengthen Bharat and to stand united in purpose and spirit.'

Panaji: Youth in several states of India are losing the most productive part of their lives taking competitive exams in the hope of securing govt jobs, said Shamika Ravi , a member of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council. She said this fascination with govt jobs is not only skewing the unemployment rate of the country but also creating a scarcity of skilled personnel for manufacturing and corporate sectors. Ravi, who delivered a lecture on Viksit Bharat @2047 at ICG, said that economists have noticed a peculiar trend called graduate unemployment, where youth between the ages of 18 and 29 willingly decide not to work in the hope of the ideal job. 'We do have, in some states of the country particularly, an unusual fascination for govt jobs. So, there is something where people in their 20s are taking exams after exams, for five to six years,' Ravi said. She said Centre and some states have begun working on policies to 'demystify' govt jobs to make them less desirable. 'That's why we keep saying that govt jobs need to become less attractive not just in terms of salary. It is the leisure, the benefits that come along,' Ravi said. She also noted that unemployment has a close link with a state's governance and business reforms. 'Goa's unemployment rate is around 10%. So, what is it about these states that are developed with very high unemployment?' Ravi said. 'Unemployment is inversely related to how business-friendly the state is. Wealth creation is linked to job creation.' States that are doing well economically are the ones really creating jobs, she said. States that stand out, she said, such as Punjab, Kerala, and Goa, are low on the ease-of-doing-business index. She said, 'We really have to become more business-friendly.' She pointed out that the country's private sector faces an acute shortage of human resources at the mid-management level. 'All industry surveys are telling us that firms are finding it difficult to grow, not because they can't find finance, but because they can't find skilled people,' Ravi said. She added, 'The industry does not just value your degree; it wants actual skills, and there is a gap between the degree and the skill that the market needs. The gap is wide.'

HC reserves order in bail plea of ex-min Alam
Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court on Friday reserved its order in a petition filed by former state rural development minister Alamgir Alam seeking bail pursuant to his arrest in the tender scam by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Alam, a four-time former Congress MLA from Pakur, has been in custody since May 15 last year after the ED had started investigatigating his involvement in facilitating tenders. The case was heard by Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad who after having heard the arguments of Alam and the ED, reserved the order. Alam, a cabinet minister during the previous JMM-Congress-RJD alliance govt, had to resign from his office as he came in the line of fire following the arrest department's chief engineer Virendra Ram by the ED for his involvement in money laundering. Investigation revealed that Alam had provided tenders to selected companies and has received commissions for facilitating tenders. The investigation culminated in raids being conducted by the ED in the properties of Ram in Delhi, Jamshedpur, Patna and Ranchi. Similarly, raids were also conducted in the premises of other engineers of the department including the residence of Sanjeev Lal, the personal secretary of Alamgir Alam. In course of the raids conducted by the ED, the house of Jahangir Alam, a house help of Sanjeev, was also scanned. The raid in Jahangir Alam's house revealed possession of Rs 32 crores in cash. The investigating authorities then turned the heat on Alamgir Alam and connected the pieces concluding his involvement in accumulating huge amount of cash and stashing it in the house of his employees.

Govt probes surge in foreign-linked Fb accounts ahead of polls
1 2 Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said the govt has initiated a forensic audit of about 5,000 Facebook accounts activated in the last one month, raising concerns over a surge in foreign-linked accounts, which he alleges are being used to destabilize Assam and influence its political discourse. Sarma said a detailed forensic study was conducted on 2,092 accounts, revealing that a significant number of these were primarily operated from Islamic nations. Sarma said among the audited Facebook profiles, 618 were from Bangladesh, 236 from Pakistan, 88 from Kuwait, 54 from France, 35 from Afghanistan, 16 from Indonesia, 10 from Jordan, eight from Iraq, six each from Brazil and Egypt, four each from Germany and Albania, three from Italy, two each from Australia and Palestine and one each from Canada, Colombia and Libya. Sarma said these accounts share Islamic fundamentalist content, including pro-Palestine material, Iran-related posts, and content about Bangladesh's chief advisor Prof Md Yunus. He added that the central govt has been notified about this situation, describing it as a matter of "national security". Sarma said some individuals from outside have rented accommodation in two Guwahati localities and have established connections with YouTubers and social media influencers for this purpose. "Surveillance is being kept on them. Fundamentalist elements have entered Assam and are active in the run-up to the elections," he said. He added that these account holders might be connected via WhatsApp and other messaging applications, as they operate from different time zones and receive alerts about fundamentalist content. He added that Assam's Muslims, whether indigenous or settled migrants, would not share such content. He said Assam and the northeast have consistently been targets of international fundamentalism, with separating the 'chicken neck' to integrate it with Bangladesh remaining an 'unfinished agenda' for extremists. "We are in a very critical situation and the entire matter is being looked into from the national security angle," Sarma said.
