Iran slams US nuclear proposal, says it will continue to enrich uranium
TEHRAN — Iran's supreme leader has denounced a proposal by the United States aimed at curbing Tehran's nuclear efforts and demanded that his country retains independence amid reports of Washington offering to become involved in Tehran's nuclear program.
Despite several rounds of talks between the two sides to thrash out a new nuclear deal major sticking points remain, with Iran insisting on its right to nuclear enrichment.
'The first word of the US is that Iran should not have a nuclear industry and should rely on the United States,' Ayatollah Ali Khamenei told a crowd gathered in Tehran to commemorate the death of Imam Khomeini, the founder of Iran's Islamic Republic.
'Our response to the US' nonsense is clear: they cannot do a damn thing in this matter,' he said.
The US sent a nuclear deal proposal to Iran on Saturday. CNN has learned this suggests the US could invest in Iran's civilian nuclear power program and join a consortium that would oversee the enrichment of low-level uranium inside Iran for an unspecified amount of time. That potential consortium would be expected to include Middle Eastern nations and the UN's nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Khamenei said Wednesday that Iran is refusing to allow the United States to give a 'green or red light' with its nuclear program and stressed on 'national independence.'A senior Iranian official told CNN on Monday that the US proposal is 'incoherent and disjointed, very unrealistic, and with excessive demands.'US President Donald Trump said on Monday, seemingly contrary to what was proposed to Iran, that the deal will not allow uranium enrichment.'Under our potential Agreement — WE WILL NOT ALLOW ANY ENRICHMENT OF URANIUM,' Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform.Iran's supreme leader added on Wednesday that his country has been 'able to achieve a complete nuclear energy cycle,' a feat only achieved by a few countries.'Uranium enrichment is an essential part of the Islamic Republic's nuclear program, and we will not abandon it,' Khamenei said.Iran and the US concluded a fifth round of high-stakes nuclear talks in Rome on May 23 amid growing skepticism in Tehran about the chances of a deal. After that round of discussions, the two sides 'agreed to meet again in the near future,' a senior US administration official said at the time. — CNN

But after US President Donald Trump pulled the US out of the deal during his first term, Iran began enriching uranium up to 60% and restricting access to its nuclear facilities. Iran has insisted on its right to enrich uranium — at lower levels — in recent talks over its nuclear program. But Trump, like Israel, has demanded Iran end its enrichment program altogether.

Pakistan tells OIC conference Israeli military actions driving Middle East instability
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Saturday voiced alarm over escalating tensions in the Middle East, blaming Israel's military actions in Gaza and recent strikes in Iran for deepening instability and humanitarian crisis in the region. Addressing the 51st session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Istanbul, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar reiterated his country's condemnation of Israel's attack on Iran. The high-level conference comes at a moment of crisis for several OIC member states. Two of the bloc's key countries — Pakistan and Iran — have recently experienced military escalations with regional rivals. While Pakistan's brief but intense standoff with India ended in a ceasefire last month, Israel's strikes on Iranian nuclear and military facilities, launched more than a week ago, have shown no signs of de-escalation. 'Israeli aggression against Iran is not an isolated event,' Dar said in his address to the forum. 'It is part of a dangerous and consistent pattern of militarism that Israel has demonstrated across the Middle East.' 'Pakistan remains deeply concerned at the escalating tensions, deepening instability and humanitarian crises across the Middle East,' he added. 'What underpins many of these situations is the continued impunity with which Israel is undermining peace and stability of the broader region.' The Pakistani deputy PM condemned Israel's 'unprovoked aggression' against Iran as a violation of international law and the UN Charter, warning that such actions posed a grave threat to both regional and global peace. 'We can all feel the reverberations of this instability,' he said. Turning to Gaza, Dar said Israel was waging a 'genocidal campaign' against Palestinians, pointing out that over 55,000 people, mostly women and children, had been killed since the start of the conflict in October 2023. He noted Israel was deliberately blocking life-saving humanitarian aid and targeting relief workers, leaving millions displaced and entire neighborhoods in ruins. Calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza, Dar said that lasting peace in the region was impossible without a viable, sovereign Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital. He also referenced last month's military standoff between Pakistan and India, telling the conference participants that Pakistan had shot down six Indian fighter jets in the confrontation. He said that his country was committed to regional stability and warned that India's unilateral actions — including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty — were further escalating tensions. 'Pakistan will not allow India to stop water for our people,' he said. 'It will be treated as an act of war.' Dar also urged the OIC to assert itself as a collective voice for the Muslim world. Israel Leading Middle East to ‘Total Disaster': Turkish FM
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan accused Israel on Saturday of pushing the Middle East towards the brink of a 'total disaster' by attacking Iranian nuclear facilities on June 13, according to Arab News. 'Israel is now leading the region to the brink of total disaster,' Fidan said. OIC Summit in Istanbul Fidan's remarks came during the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul held to discuss Israel's war against Iran and related regional security issues. 'There is no Palestinian, Lebanese, Syrian, Yemeni or Iranian problem but there is clearly an Israeli problem,' Fidan said. He also described Israel's strikes against Iran as an 'unlimited aggression.' Moreover, he urged for an immediate end to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, warning that it 'would further jeopardize regional and global security.' Unconditional Support Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Western leaders of unconditionally supporting Israel. Erdogan also stated that Turkey would never allow borders in the Middle East to be redrawn 'in blood.' 'It is vital for us to show more solidarity to end Israel's banditry — not only in Palestine but also in Syria, in Lebanon and in Iran,' he told the OIC's 57 member countries. Harmful Impacts On Friday, Erdogan warned that the ongoing Israeli Iranian tensions could cause a surge in migration and have harmful impacts on Europe and the region, according to Al Arabiya. In a phone call with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Erdogan said that 'negotiations' was the solution to the nuclear disagreements with Iran. 'The spiral of violence triggered bky Israel's attacks could harm the region and Europe in terms of migration and the possibility of nuclear leakage,' he said. He also noted that the ongoing conflict had 'raised the threat to regional security to the highest level,' expressing that Turkey is making efforts to put an end to the Israeli-Iranian strikes. Israel-Iran War On June 13, Israel launched a wave of airstrikes on Iran under the name of Operation Rising Lion. The military campaign targeted Iran's nuclear facilities and killed top military commanders and nuclear scientists. As a response, Iran launched a retaliatory wave of missiles against Israel and targeted Tel Aviv. Israel also killed three more Iranian nuclear scientists, bringing the total number of scientists slain to nine, Gulf News reported. Currently, both countries are trading missiles and attacks amid intensifying efforts to halt the conflict.
