Nashik: The health condition of slain doctor
Trupti Wagh
's husband, Avinash, and her father, Kiran Arjun Mangle, remained critical on Monday, authorities said.
Mangle (48), a former sub-inspector with the Central Reserve Police Force (
CRPF
), was furious with his MBBS graduate daughter marrying a Std XII pass distant relative against his wishes.
He fired three bullets from his licensed pistol at the young couple during a relative's pre-wedding ceremony at Chopda in Jalgaon district around 10.15pm on Saturday, leading to the death of Trupti (24). Wagh (28) received bullet injuries in his hand and back, requiring immediate medical attention. The family members who were with Wagh at the programme decided to shift him to Pune. "While Trupti died, the medical condition of Mangle and Wagh remains critical. Wagh has been shifted to the Sassoon General Hospital in Pune, while Mangle, admitted in Jalgaon, is put on ventilator support," said inspector Madhukar Salve of Chopda police.
Salve said Mangle, who was caught by the guests and relatives of Wagh attending the ceremony, was thrashed. He received grievous internal and external injuries. The police have recovered the pistol from Mangle, who has been booked for the murder of Trupti, along with his son.
According to Dr Yallapa Jadhav, medical superintendent of the Sassoon General Hospital, the patient is stable but critical. "He has received intestinal injuries and we have treated him for the injuries," Dr Jadhav said.
The police said Mangle was furious after his daughter eloped and married Wagh, who was not as educated as Trupti. "Mangle carried that anger all year round before he sought the opportunity. He travelled some 50km from his home in Shirpur, gatecrashed the event and opened fire at the couple," the police said.
Wagh works as a helper with a Pune-based private company and earns about Rs 12,000 a month.

Punjab Police busts Pak-linked BKI module; arrest one, seize six pistols

Punjab Police on Saturday said it has dismantled a Pakistan-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module operated by UK-based handler Dharam Singh alias Dharma Sandhu. Police have arrested a local operative of the module and recovered six foreign-made pistols from his possession, DGP Gaurav Yadav said. The accused has been identified as Onkar Singh alias Nawab, a resident of Jalalusma village in Amritsar district. The seized weapons, smuggled via drones from across the border, include four 9 mm Glock pistols and two .30 bore pistols, the DGP said. Dharam Singh, who operated the terror module, is a close associate of Pakistan-based terrorist Harvinder Singh alias Rinda. Further investigation is underway to unearth the broader network of the module, the DGP said. Sharing operation details, Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the arrest followed precise intelligence inputs and coordination. "During interrogation, the accused disclosed that the weapons delivered via drones were meant for disruptive activities," Yadav said. Preliminary investigation revealed that Onkar Singh was part of a sleeper cell activated by foreign-based handlers to destabilise the state. "The weapons were meant to be distributed among local operatives to execute targeted killings and terror activities Punjab. We are working to uncover the entire network and its international linkages," Bhullar said.

4-year-old daughter of migrant labourer couple dragged into forest by leopard, found dead

A four-year-old girl from a family of migrant labourers was found dead on Saturday morning, nearly 17 hours after a leopard dragged her into the forested tea estates of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR), in what officials described as a rare and tragic incident near Valparai in western Tamil Nadu. The child, M Roshini Kumari, had arrived in the Pachamalai estate area with her parents from Jharkhand just a week earlier. Her father, Manoj Munda, and mother, Monica Devi, were newly employed tea estate workers in the hilly region. On Friday evening, around 6.30 pm, Roshini was standing beside her mother, who was fetching water near their line house, when a leopard emerged from the tea bushes and pounced. The child was dragged away in full view of the mother. 'The family raised an alarm, and local workers alerted the nearest forest office. There was an intense overnight search operation that spanned nearly two square kilometres, involving 40 forest personnel, a sniffer dog named Bairava, drone surveillance, and help from local fire and police departments. But there was no sign of the girl until late Friday night,' said a forest range officer who was part of the team. By 11.30 am on Saturday, Roshini's partially eaten body was discovered 700 meters from her home in a eucalyptus grove. The remains were taken to the Valparai Government Hospital for post-mortem. Officials said the department has been preparing to place 20 camera traps to monitor the animal movements in the area by Saturday evening. Roshini's family will receive Rs 50,000 as immediate compensation, with an additional Rs 9.5 lakh expected to be disbursed on Sunday under Tamil Nadu's human-wildlife conflict relief provisions. Official sources said that no bloodstains were initially found at the site due to light drizzle at the time of the attack, complicating the tracking. A local estate worker claimed to have seen the leopard dragging the child, but the dense terrain and presence of other wildlife made the operation especially challenging. The estate has a number of migrant labourers and their families living there. Many have only recently relocated to Valparai for seasonal work. The official said they have started awareness campaigns and urged families not to allow young children outdoors unaccompanied, especially during early morning and evening hours.
