Paris Saint-Germain kicked off their 2025 Club World Cup campaign with a hugely impressive 4-0 win against Atletico Madrid.
The European champions were far too good for their Group B opponents, who finished the match with 10 men after Clement Lenglet's second-half red card.
Goals from Fabian Ruiz and Vitinha set PSG on their way to a convincing victory, both finishing superbly into Jan Oblak's bottom corner. And the win was wrapped up in the closing stages when Mayulu hammered in from close range and Lee scored from the penalty spot.
Julian Alvarez thought he had halved the deficit earlier in the second half, but the goal was disallowed after consultation with VAR.

The 2025 Club World Cup didn't give us any goals on opening night, but it gave us some pretty good entertainment.
Inter Miami met Egyptian champions Al Ahly at Hard Rock Stadium and, for the entirety of the first half, it looked like one of the MLS representatives might be embarrassed on the global stage.
But Oscar Ustari saved a 43rd-minute penalty and it sparked his side into life.
In the end Miami left the pitch frustrated with a goalless draw as, led by Lionel Messi, they enjoyed a host of decent late chances.
Unfortunately for them, they found Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy in inspired form, with his last-minute fingertip save to deny Messi a world-class winner proving to be the highlight. Getty Images

Goalkeeper future uncertain at Manchester United amid Monaco interest
Onana's Future in Doubt as Monaco Circle: High Stakes and High Pressure for United's Number One Error-Strewn Season Raises Questions Monaco are interested in signing Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana, according to Sky in Italy. The news comes off the back of a turbulent debut campaign in English football for the Cameroonian international. Advertisement United's faith in Onana, who arrived from Inter Milan for £47.3 million in July 2023, has been severely tested. Despite playing a pivotal role in their FA Cup win, Onana has been under heavy scrutiny, particularly after 'making numerous high-profile errors at Old Trafford.' Photo: IMAGO Opta data reveals a stark truth: 'Onana's total of eight errors leading to goals in all competitions since the start of the 2023/24 season is the second-highest of all Premier League players, behind only Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.' Monaco Consider a Swoop Sky report that 'the French club are understood to be exploring the conditions of a deal for the 29-year-old.' Monaco finished third in Ligue 1 and will compete in the Champions League next season. They are now managed by the experienced Adi Hutter, formerly of Eintracht Frankfurt. Advertisement For Onana, the opportunity to reset in France might appeal. After 101 appearances and diminishing trust under United's management, the signs are clear. He started just one of the last four Premier League games, with Turkish stopper Altay Bayindir given the nod in his place. Amorim's Overhaul in Full Swing United's summer is shaping up to be a transitional one under new manager Ruben Amorim. A clearout is underway. 'Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof have all been released,' and speculation surrounds key attackers including 'Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho.' Meanwhile, reinforcements are arriving. Matheus Cunha has been signed from Wolves in a £62.5 million deal, with Bryan Mbeumo and Viktor Gyokeres also in their sights. Crunch Start to 2025/26 Season United's new-look side will be tested early. 'Manchester United will kick off the new Premier League season with a blockbuster Super Sunday game against Arsenal at Old Trafford on August 17, live on Sky Sports.' Advertisement They then face Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool within the first two months — a brutal gauntlet for any team, let alone one mid-rebuild. Whether Onana will still be wearing red when that whistle blows remains uncertain. Our View – EPL Index Analysis Tone: Concerned – Manchester United Fan Perspective It's hard not to feel nervous reading this update. Onana's arrival was meant to signal a shift to a modern, confident keeper who could pass and command. What we've seen instead is a player who looks spooked, unsure, and increasingly isolated. The numbers don't lie. Eight errors leading to goals in one season is a red flag, and if Monaco are circling now, the question must be whether it's better to cut losses early rather than double down on a gamble gone wrong. Advertisement Yet, there's a worry here too. Are we becoming too quick to discard talent? Onana was one of Europe's standout keepers just 18 months ago. Perhaps the problem lies not just with him, but the defensive structure and the lack of leadership around him. Letting him go now feels premature unless a better option is already lined up. Bayindir is still untested, and United cannot afford to go into a high-stakes season — with a daunting start — without a stable No.1. If Onana stays, he must rediscover his form immediately. If he goes, United must find not just a replacement, but a true anchor in goal. Either way, this could define Ruben Amorim's debut campaign.

Grady Diangana transfer development after West Brom exit
Grady Diangana, the winger released by West Bromwich Albion at the end of last season, has reportedly been approached by Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq. However, it's believed the player would rather remain in Europe than head to the Middle East – with supposed interest from his former Baggies boss Carlos Corberan. Advertisement His six-year stay at The Hawthorns came to an end in the summer. Having joined on an initial loan deal from West Ham United in 2019, the attacker agreed a five-year contract with the club after helping them seal promotion under Slaven Bilic in 2020. READ MORE: Championship clubs told to pay £1m for ex-Birmingham City wonderboy READ MORE: Birmingham City have created a new role for Lukas Jutkiewicz after retirement Diangana, who set Albion back an initial £12m, struggled for consistency and after Bilic's exit he failed to establish himself under Sam Allardyce but did return to something like his best form in spells over the last four campaigns. Advertisement Under Corberan, in 2023-24, Diangana was at his most fruitful. As Albion reached the play-offs he made 15 goal contributions in 36 Championship appearances. But last year Diangana's numbers were a little more modest. As a result, Albion decided against extending his stay and he's now on the look out for a new club. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims the 27-year-old has been contacted by Saudi outfit Al-Ettifaq, who finished seventh in the Pro League last year, offering a lucrative offer. But Diangana would rather remain in Europ, with suggestions that Corberan, who is working again with former Albion chief executive Ron Gourlay at Valencia, might take him to the La Liga club.

Florian Wirtz reveals how Jeremie Frimpong taught him to speak English
Florian Wirtz says that Jeremie Frimpong is responsible for helping him speak English more fluently ahead of his move to Liverpool. The German playmaker has joined the Reds from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth up to £116 million, including £16m in potential add-ons. Advertisement Wirtz spoke perfect English in his first sit-down interview with the club, detailing his excitement at joining Liverpool and his goals for the future. Florian Wirtz reveals how Jeremie Frimpong taught him to speak English Frimpong, who was born in the Netherlands but spent most of his youth in Manchester, has also swapped Leverkusen for Anfield this summer. The pair developed a close bond as they sat next to each other in the dressing room, which helped Wirtz improve his language skills. When asked if Frimpong was responsible for teaching him English, he replied: 'Yes, he was my neighbour in the changing room, he sat directly next to me and I had to speak English with him. Advertisement 'After I finished my school, I didn't speak really good English but he was teaching me a lot and making me speak in more English and better English.' The 22-year-old is delighted to be reunited with Frimpong at the Premier League club after the wing-back completed a £29.5m transfer last month. 'I think it's a really nice thing that we can play together again at a new club, at maybe a bigger club, and make the move together. I'm really looking forward to standing on the pitch with him again.' It remains to be seen whether Frimpong can help Wirtz perfect the scouse accent, though. Wirtz added: 'I played, I think, three or four years with him. He's a really good player, a really good person, a really funny guy. Good for every changing room and also on the pitch, big qualities to attack and to defend. Advertisement 'He was then the first one who signed with Liverpool and of course he wanted me to join as well. But I think I made my decision by my own, but it was maybe a small part that convinced me in the end as well.'
