Four Mexican visitors on e-bikes rescued from the Cairngorms

Four Mexican visitors on e-bikes were rescued early this morning after getting into difficulty in the Cairngorms.
Braemar Mountain Rescue were called out by police at about 8.30pm on Sunday after a report of someone sustaining an ankle injury.
Four members of the team initially headed out.
Their number had grown to 16, however, by the time the rescue ended at around 1.30am on Monday.
The team's operations manager, Malcolm MacIntyre, said the group, who were a party of four from Mexico, had hired e-bikes for their journey.
The operation was complicated by none of the Mexican e-bikers speaking English.
They had come from Blair Athol and cycled up Glen Tilt.
The plan was then to head for Aviemore via Glen Geldie and then Glen Feshie.
Four members of the Braemar Mountain Rescue team travelled into the grid reference using their Argocat off-road vehicle.
'One of them, we think the group leader, twisted her ankle,' Mr MacInyre said.
'Another person was concerned about a sore back.
'Fortunately they had met with two experienced bikers on a camping trip.
'They put up their tent to give the group shelter.
'We took the injured person out in our ATV to the nearest estate track and also walked the rest of them to that point.
'From there we were able to transport them all – and their bikes – to our base in Braemar.
'They were met there later by someone in their wider party with a van to go back to Aviemore.'

If The Plough Hotel does not appeal, there are other accommodation options in the area to choose from. Among these are the nearby Border Hotel and the Mill House bed and breakfast.

Luxury jewelry brand Glamira has carried out new research using Instagram and Google Trends to learn where the most popular places to get engaged are right now – and Edinburgh ranks in 2nd place! Glamira counted how many Instagram posts about getting engaged were located in each UK region or city, with the hashtags #proposal or #engagement. They also used Google Trends to search for the popularity of different locations along with the keywords 'proposal ideas', 'best place to propose', 'engagement ideas', and 'romantic proposal location'. It also achieved a Google Trends score of 87.3, out of a possible 100. View of Edinburgh from Calton Hill The top five UK destinations, based on Instagram and Google Trends data, were as follows: 1. London 2. Edinburgh 3. Lake District 4. Manchester 5. Cornwall Yeliz Misirli, jewellery expert at Glamira, comments: 'While London, Edinburgh and Manchester all appear in this list, with couples heading to both the English and Scottish capital in huge numbers, it's clear to see that a lot of people are also choosing the countryside as the place for their special day. This might often take place on a weekend trip or staycation, as some of these places seem to attract a lot of interest compared to their population size. 'Here are my top tips for travelling with an engagement ring, if you're planning to propose on your next trip. If you want to keep the proposal and the ring a surprise, you can hide a ring box easily inside a pair of socks – if the ring comes in a soft bag it's even easier, and your sunglasses case could be perfect.'

Two London restaurants have been named in the 50 best in the world

Every year, the prestigious World's 50 Best holds a ceremony to crown the 50 very best restaurants on the planet. Earlier this month the extended list (from 51 to 100) was revealed, and two London restos featured. Now the top 50 has been unveiled at an awards ceremony in Turin. Now in its 23rd year, the 2025 list comprises eateries from 32 cities and 22 countries, with 10 new entries and four re-entries. In the ranking, two London restaurants were crowned as one of the world's 50 best in 2025. High-end Mexican restaurant Kol came in 49th place. The Michelin-starred spot in Marylebone is known for its impeccable presentation, and for making Mexican dishes with British ingredients. Helmed by ex-Noma and Noma Mexico chef Santiago Lastra, some of Kol's best-renowned dishes include a langoustine taco, and a whole grilled octopus with bone marrow. The other London restaurant to make the list was Ikoyi, coming in 15th place. According to the World's 50 Best, co-founders Jeremy Chan and Iré Hassan-Odukale have 'created a culinary style that defies categorisation'. The swish joint on the Strand blends West African and Asian spices with British vegetables, meat and fish to create a unique blind tasting menu. Stand out dishes include a refined take on jollof rice and the plantain dish, which has taken on different iterations over the years. When Time Out visited Ikoyi when it opened in 2017, we called it 'a thrilling anomaly even in London's diverse food scene'. Check out the full list on the World's 50 Best website here.
