Pay Rs 1 lakh fine for using books from pvt publishers, forcing students to buy them from specific shops: Sambhal admin to 33 schools
The Sambhal district administration has imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on 33 private schools affiliated with the CBSE and ICSE boards for allegedly using books from private publishers and 'compelling' students to purchase them from designated shops.
The action follows an inquiry conducted by the district administration after receiving complaints from parents. The inquiry team found that the schools were not only bypassing the recommended NCERT textbooks but were also putting pressure on parents to buy books from specific vendors — violating norms set by the state government.
In addition to the book-related violations, the administration is also investigating complaints regarding a 'surge' in school fees and further action may be taken based on the findings.
'It is clearly instructed that only National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) books should be used. However, we received complaints that several schools were prescribing books from private publishers and directing parents to buy them from specific shops,' said Shyama Kumar, District Inspector of Schools (DIOS), Sambhal.
He added that an inquiry found that out of the 34 private schools operating in the district, 33 were found to be violating the guidelines of Uttar Pradesh Self-Financed Independent Schools (Fee Regulation) Act. We found one school in the Chandausi area of Sambhal where NCERT books were being used for teaching.' These schools are from nursery to Class 10 and 12.
District Magistrate (DM), Sambhal, Dr Rajender Pensiya, confirmed that a fine of Rs 1 lakh each has been imposed on 33 schools violating the norms. He added that their main objective is that schools should follow norms and use NCERT books, as prescribed.
If school authorities again found violating the rules, more stringent action would be taken against them, said the DM.
DIOS said the 33 schools authorities have been directed to deposit the fine within a week.
According to officials, a group of parents recently submitted a complaint to the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) and the District Magistrate, alleging that private schools were forcing them to buy books from private publishers available only at specific shops. Several parents also accused the schools of significantly increasing their fee structures without justification.
In response to the complaints, the district administration convened a meeting last month with representatives of private schools and told them that they are violating the Act. During the meeting, school authorities were directed to refrain from imposing excessive fees and to strictly follow the mandate of using only NCERT textbooks.
However, when no significant changes were observed, the administration called another meeting of its officials and decided to conduct a detailed survey of each school to verify whether they are violating the rules. District officials were assigned to each school to carry out physical inspections and submit comprehensive reports on the basis of the findings.
Source said it was found that at a few places, parents of students were asked to purchase from bookstores on or near the school campus.
After the inquiry, the district administration convened a meeting to review the probe report. The findings confirmed that 33 schools were in violation of established norms.
On the issue of alleged fee hikes, Shyama Kumar said the administration had issued a detailed format to all private schools, asking them to provide their fee structures for the past three years. 'All schools have submitted the required data and an audit is underway. We are examining the percentage increase in fees by each school during the past three academic years,' he said.

Rohtak shocker: Man dies by suicide after receiving obscene video of wife with lover; claims she pressured him to kill father, sell land for partner's promotion
ROHTAK: A man died by suicide after allegedly being harassed by his wife, Divya, and her alleged lover, Deepak, a police inspector said. The victim has been identified as Magan alias Ajay. A video that Magan received just before ending his life has now surfaced, showing Divya dancing while her boyfriend records the footage. During the video, the two can be seen engaging in obscene behaviour. According to Magan's family, Divya herself sent this video to her husband. The emotional trauma that followed reportedly led Magan to hang himself last week. Before dying, Magan recorded a video where he alleged that his wife Divya and her police officer boyfriend were mentally harassing him. He claimed Divya pressured him to murder his own father and sell ancestral land so that Deepak could get a promotion in his police job. In the video, Magan appealed to the police to take strict action against both of them. Magan's body was found hanging from a tree on the night of June 18 in Dobh village here. His family found the body after they began searching for him upon seeing the suicide video he posted on social media earlier that morning. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Scam Exposed: What They Won't Tell You about zero trust! He stated, 'Divya has an affair with Deepak, a policeman posted in Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad), Maharashtra. Both of them have mentally tortured me.' He further revealed that both Divya and Deepak pressurised him to kill his father and sell ancestral property. 'They want to buy a flat in Mumbai using that money. But I can't kill my father, so I am ending my life,' Magan said. Magan also claimed that Deepak needed Rs 5 lakh for a job promotion. 'After selling wheat, I gave Rs 1.5 lakh to Divya. On June 9, 2025, I mortgaged my gold bracelet and gave her another Rs 2 lakh. The transaction records are in a file kept at home. Even after paying Rs 3.5 lakh, they were demanding another Rs 1.5 lakh from me,' he said. Magan said he discovered 1.5 years into the marriage that Divya was already married and had a son from that marriage. She did not legally divorce before marrying him. 'When I consulted a lawyer, he advised me to file a case since Hindu law doesn't allow remarriage without divorce. But I never took action and instead paid her to settle with her first husband.' In his last video, Magan addressed his rakhi sister, Savita Arya from Panipat, who works for women's rights. He said, 'Even if a woman is wrong, she gets sympathy by shedding a few tears. But even a right man ends up losing his life. Please do something for men too.' He also appealed to Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda and Meham MLA Balram Dangi. 'After my death, my son should stay with my parents. They are losing their only son. I urge the MP and MLA to visit my home and assure my parents that no one will take my son away from them.' Magan's family said the couple met through social media in 2019 and later registered their marriage. Initially, the family did not approve, but after Divya gave birth to a son, they accepted her. Magan's family stated that Divya had a job but never disclosed what it was. She often stayed away from home for days, using work as an excuse. They suspect it was during these trips that she met Deepak in Maharashtra. She left home on March 20, 2025, saying she was going for work but never returned. She remained in contact over the phone for a while and was later found to be living with Deepak in Maharashtra, from where she allegedly continued to harass Magan. ASI Sanjay from Bahu Akbarpur Police Station stated that efforts are being made to trace Divya. A team visited her parental home in Narnaund, Hisar, but family members claimed to have had no contact with her for years. Police are examining Magan's call records and bank transactions. Once evidence is consolidated, a team will be dispatched to Maharashtra to locate and apprehend Divya.

Owner Of Flat, Where Sonam Raghuvanshi, Killers Lived, Suspected Of Hiding Evidence
New Delhi: The owner of the flat where murder-accused Sonam Raghuvanshi and her aides lived after killing her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, is under the scanner of the Meghalaya SIT for concealing evidence. Lokendra Tomar, an infrastructure company owner, allegedly took Sonam's bag containing a country-made pistol, her phone, Raja's jewellery, and Rs five lakh cash from the house in Indore's Hirabagh locality, police sources believe. Tomar emerged as a suspect while the police were questioning Silome James, the property dealer from Indore who rented the flat to the murder accused. According to James, Tomar had asked the property dealer to remove Sonam's bag from the flat shortly after she surrendered to the police. However, when he did not, the flat owner took it. Police sources said Tomar also tried to get the CCTV footage of the car showroom near his flat. Tomar is currently missing, and his phone is switched off. The police are carrying out raids to locate him in Indore, sources said. What we know about Sonam's bag According to the Meghalaya Special Investigation Team (SIT), Silome James had rented a flat in Indore's Hirabagh locality to one of three killers - Vishal Singh Chauhan. The victim's wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, is also believed to have stayed in the flat between May 26 and June 8, before she surrendered to the police. During her interrogation, Sonam said she left a black-coloured bag in the flat on June 8 and left for Ghazipur. Sonam's phone, Raja's jewellery, Rs five lakh cash, and a country-made pistol were kept in the bag. However, when the police raided the house, they did not find anything. Preliminary investigation, however, revealed that two days after Sonam surrendered, James and the building's security guard, Balveer, went to the flat and removed the bag and other evidence items. They allegedly set the bag on fire and destroyed it. The security guard was given Rs 5,000 to hide the evidence - following which he helped conceal it and escaped to his home in Ashok Nagar. James also took Sonam's laptop, which was later thrown away by his wife. The two were allegedly caught concealing the evidence in one of the CCTV cameras collected by the Meghalaya SIT. They were subsequently arrested. The Honeymoon Murder Case Raja and Sonam got married on May 11. Nine days later, they left for their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 20 - with a one-way ticket in hand. The couple roamed around in the Northeast for three days before going "missing". When their family members could not reach them, they reached out to the police. What initially started as a probe to find the couple, turned into a murder investigation when Raja's body was found in a gorge on June 2, ten days after the brutal crime. His preliminary autopsy report revealed that he was attacked twice - once each on the back and front of his head. On the night of June 7, Sonam was found in an unconscious state at a 'dhaba' in Ghazipur. She was taken to the Ghazipur Medical College for treatment, where she surrendered before the police. The remaining three killers were also subsequently arrested. Preliminary investigation revealed that during their honeymoon, Sonam and Raja carried four phones ( of which three belonged to Sonam). After the three hitmen killed her husband, Sonam broke his phone and threw the damaged device, the police said. The other three mobile phones that belonged to Sonam are still missing, and the police are searching for them.
