Saini felicitates 64 candidates from Haryana who cleared UPSC

Haryana chief minister, Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday felicitated 64 candidates from the state who have successfully cleared the Civil Services Examination 2024 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
At a ceremony held at his official residence, Saini expressed hope that these youngsters would contribute their talents to realizing Prime Minister's vision of making India a developed nation by 2047.
Saini told them that they were are the foundation and torchbearers of a developed India. 'The nation has high expectations from you. I am confident that through your service in every corner of the country, you will not only strengthen the spirit of unity in diversity but also bring glory to Haryana. He urged the candidates never to forget their values and roots, and wherever they serve, establish a legacy of success through their competence and integrity,' Saini said.

Haryana govt finally blinks, sets up panel to break HAU standoff

Ten days after peacefully protesting students of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU) Hisar, were lathi-charged, the Nayab Singh Saini-led BJP government on Friday finally 'took cognizance' of the incident, setting up a four-member panel to hold talks with the students and resolve the standoff. The students at CCSHAU, Hisar, have been protesting since June 10 in the wake of a clash with university staff. The mandate of this committee is to meet the students, hear their grievances and work towards a resolution of the logjam. 'Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini, taking cognizance of issues related to CCSHAU, has constituted a four-member committee to hold dialogue with the students,' a government spokesperson said. 'The CM has made it clear that the Haryana government is fully committed to safeguarding the interests of youth and students. The government stands with the youth and students at every level,' he added. The students at CCSHAU, Hisar, have been protesting since June 10 in the wake of a clash with university staff. Despite mounting outrage from academics and Opposition political parties over the use of force against the students, administrative apathy, and alleged political interference, the Haryana government had remained silent until now. The unrest began when students gathered outside vice-chancellor BR Kamboj's residence on June 10 to protest changes to the university's stipend structure and the rollback of seat reservations for Land Donation Villages (LDV). The situation escalated when university officials and security personnel allegedly unleashed a brutal lathi-charge, leaving at least 20 students injured. The cane charge was cruel so much so that some students suffered deep head wounds requiring six to 30 stitches. The state government's decision to set up a panel comes ahead of students announcing to hold a mahapanchayat on June 24 against the varsity administration. Students have been observing sit-ins demanding the arrest of two university officials and the resignation of vice-chancellor BR Kamboj in response to a lathi charge on June 10. The university had earlier formed a three-member committee to resolve the issue but the students refused to hold talks with them. They are demanding the arrest of remaining accused named in the FIR, termination of key officials, and protection from disciplinary action against those involved in the protest.

HC initiates PIL on ‘tree felling' by a realtor in Gurugram

The Punjab and Haryana high court has initiated suo motu public interest litigation (PIL) on a news report about environmentalists and locals opposing reported felling of trees in Gurugram by a realtor. The report carried on June 12 by an English daily had stated that residents and environmentalists have launched protests over allegations of the process of felling of nearly 2,000 trees on an estimated 40 acre of land in DLF Phase 5 in Gurugram. The report said representatives of the Aravali Bachao Citizen's Movement also staged a protest outside a Haryana minister's residence and have also written to chief minister Nayab Singh Saini and union minister for environment for their intervention. The report had also quoted a senior officer of forest department of Haryana government claiming that it was not a forest land and was owned by the DLF for years. The HC vacation bench of justice Anil Kshetarpal and justice Aman Chaudhary while issuing notice for June 26, said that the issue raised in the petition was being taken up as PIL and listed it for June 26 for responses from the commissioner, municipal corporation, Gurugram and managing director, DLF Limited.

Congress MP Surjewala questions Haryana government's withdrawal of 8,000 job ads

Congress Rajya Sabha member Randeep Surjewala has raised questions over the Haryana government withdrawing the advertisements for 8,000-odd Group 'C' jobs, including 5,666 jobs in the Haryana police, saying the youth need to seek answers from the Bharatiya Janata Party legislators in this regard. In a post on his 'X' account on Thursday (June 19, 2025), Mr. Surjewala, a former Haryana Minister, said Chief Minister Nayab Saini had advertised these jobs three hours before the announcement of schedule for the Assembly election last year and promised to make appointments before taking the oath, but 'everything turned out to be a lie'. He took a dig at the Chief Minister saying Mr. Saini now cracked jokes and enjoyed the helicopter rides, while the youth were running from pillar to post for their future. He also demanded to know why only the advertisements for 8,653 Group 'C', including 5,666 jobs of Haryana police, 1,838 jobs of stenographers, 535 jobs of draftsman/assistant draftsman, were withdrawn, but the advertisement for posts of Forest Ranger and Senior Scientific Assistant, also issued last year, were not withdrawn? 'Just before the 2024 election, 50,000 jobs were promised by Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam and they garnered a lot of votes and now after the election, 4,000 youth have been sacked and the sword is hanging on the rest,' said Mr. Surjewala, in the post. Responding to the allegations, Mr. Saini's media secretary Praveen Attrey said the Congress leaders arbitrarily gave away jobs when in power and also publicly announced to sell jobs during the election campaign, and now seemed worried because the BJP government had given around 1.75 lakh jobs on merit. 'Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini had given away appointment letters to 24,000 youth before taking the oath of the office. Soon more people will be given jobs through Common Entrance Test. The Chief Minister is fulfilling the promises made during the election,' said Mr. Attrey.
