Police: South Bend teen, 17, suspect in Gary homicide
After an argument broke out in a gray Ford Fusion, a 17-year-old teen from South Bend fatally shot a Gary man inside the vehicle, Gary Police said Monday.
Officers responded at 1:39 a.m. Monday to 24th Avenue and Maryland Street for a shots fired call.
Several people were standing around the victim, who was motionless and lying on the ground.
The Lake County Coroner's Office identified him as Nadan Stallings, 21. His death was ruled a homicide.
Toxicology tests and an autopsy are pending.
Witnesses said a group had headed to Gary from Michigan City to smoke marijuana with a friend.
After the shooting, the suspect ran but returned to the scene telling police he was shot, too. He was taken to the hospital, Gary Police Capt. Sam Roberts said in a release.
Stallings was transported to Methodist Hospitals Northlake where he was pronounced dead.
Anyone with more information can call the Lake County Prosecutor's Homicide Task Force at 219-755-3855.

Nigerian police arrest 22 suspects after deadly bus attack
ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — Police arrested on Sunday 22 suspects accused of a mob attack that left at least a dozen people killed two days ago in central Nigeria. A passenger bus was mobbed in the Mangu area of the state of Plateau, according to a police statement released Saturday. The passengers traveled from Zaria, in north-western Kaduna state, about 400 kilometers (about 249 miles) from Mangu and were on their way to a wedding when the attack happened Friday night after they lost their way. Police said 21 were rescued from the 'angry mob,' and that some passengers were killed, without providing further details. Nigeria's police, a federal authority, often provide lower death tolls than local authorities and witnesses. Meanwhile, rights group Amnesty International said 12 people were instantly killed and 11 others injured in the attack. 'Authorities must ensure that the actual persons behind the horrific attack are brought to justice,' the rights group said in a statement on Saturday. Plateau Gov. Caleb Mutfwang said law enforcement should ensure justice is served and implement measures to prevent any recurrence. Nigeria's north-central region has been plagued by increasing violence, driven by farmer-herder clashes and attacks on communities by armed gangs. At least 100 people were killed in a deadly gun attack on a village in neighboring Benue state about two weeks ago.

A powerful tool in Trump's immigration crackdown: the routine traffic stop
Chelsea White and her husband were driving home from cleaning office buildings one May evening when they happened upon a Tennessee Highway Patrol checkpoint. It was a situation the couple feared — and had taken precautions to avoid. White rolled down the driver's side window on the Ford Fusion with their company's logo. She drove because her husband, Hilario Martínez García, 46, is undocumented and cannot obtain a license in Tennessee.

"In September these students will be attending secondary school and as such may start to make their own way to school. It is important that we encourage them to be aware of the dangers of the road. "The students all had the opportunity to use the speed detection device, whilst a trained Police officer monitored the traffic using a calibrated evidential device. They also spoke to drivers who had been stopped and asked them key questions around their driving behaviour. "During the event we stopped 23 vehicles for exceeding the posted speed limit of 30mph outside a school, with 3 drivers being reported for process for excess speed. "This is the twelfth 'Student Speedwatch' event we have held with schools across Castle Point in 2025, engaging with 342 year six students."
