Leadership roles in artificial intelligence grew between 40% and 60% in fiscal 2025 compared with the prior year, according to data sourced by ET from staffing firms. Experts expect the demand to stay firm this year and beyond.The demand has been driven by companies in IT and consulting, global capability centres, financial services and healthcare firms, and startups across fintech, heathtech and ecommerce, which are setting up dedicated AI business units and teams, experts said. It is also coming from deeptech and generative AI-focused startups and from multinationals building AI development centres in India.The roles in demand include chief AI officer, head of AI/ML, vice-president – AI engineering, VP – AI strategy/innovation, VP – machine learning or GenAI, director – applied AI or innovation, director – GenAI applications, director - data science, AI product head and AI solutions architect.A significant jump in hiring in this space was seen in the last two-three quarters, staffing firms said. Accenture, LTIMindtree , IBM, Deloitte and Wipro are among top companies that are hiring for such positions, as per staffing services firm Ciel HR.'This spike correlates with the shift from pilot AI initiatives to scaled enterprise adoption,' said Krishna Vij, vice president at Teamlease Digital. 'Industry has realised that AI is now a boardroom priority for their clients and are positioning AI leadership talent to drive consulting-led engagements, co-create industry-specific AI solutions, and directly influence business outcome.'Companies are increasingly tying compensation to business impact, and top talent in this space is seeing faster progression into CXO or other management positions, she said.'India is a strategic hub for Accenture's global AI innovation powered by exceptional data and AI talent. We nurture expertise across the AI value chain and career levels," Accenture told ET.LTIMindtree, which in March appointed Nachiket Deshpande to the newly created position of president - global AI services, strategic deals and partnerships, said while announcing the appointment: "This strategic appointment demonstrates our commitment to being a proactive, agile organisation, capitalising on fast-emerging trends and reinforcing our position as an industry leader."Demand for AI leadership talent is expected to see double-digit growth in FY26 and beyond owing to the rising strategic significance of the technology, experts said.The launch of enterprise-ready GenAI pilots, combined with emerging AI regulation frameworks that emphasise ethical leadership, has accelerated the urgency for capable hands at the top, said Kapil Joshi, chief executive of Quess IT Staffing.'Organisations are no longer experimenting—they are scaling. And that shift requires seasoned AI leaders who can steer strategy, governance, and innovation in unison.'Chief AI officers are offered ₹1.2-2.5 crore annually, while heads of AI/ML typically earn ₹80 lakh to ₹1.5 crore, as per Quess data. Among others, the salary package for VPs - GenAI/ML ranges from ₹70 lakh to ₹1.2 crore range, while directors - AI innovation typically earn ₹80 lakh to ₹1 crore.Salary growth is projected to continue at 15–20% annually, especially in roles linked to responsible AI frameworks and GenAI innovations, as per Quess.Professionals with hands-on experience in deploying GenAI, LLMs, or enterprise-scale AI frameworks as well as domain depth are highly sought after, experts said.Yet, talent scarcity, domain-specific expertise, and retention of top leaders remain key challenges for employers, said Aditya Narayan Mishra, managing director and CEO, Ciel HR.'With demand outpacing supply, organisations are paying a premium for younger AI leaders,' he added.For instance, in some cases, Ciel sees the Head-AI role commanding the highest entry-level salary at ₹36 lakh for four years of experience, reflecting the premium companies place on AI capabilities.

Iran-Israel fighting distorted by tech-fuelled misinformation
AI deepfakes, video game footage passed off as real combat, and chatbot-generated falsehoods; such tech-enabled misinformation is distorting the Israel-Iran conflict, fuelling a war of narratives across social media. The information warfare unfolding alongside ground combat, sparked by Israel's strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities and military leadership, underscores a digital crisis in the age of rapidly advancing AI tools that have blurred the lines between truth and fabrication. The surge in wartime misinformation has exposed an urgent need for stronger detection tools, experts say, as major tech platforms have largely weakened safeguards by scaling back content moderation and reducing reliance on human fact-checkers. After Iran struck Israel with barrages of missiles last week, AI-generated videos falsely claimed to show damage inflicted on Tel Aviv and Ben Gurion Airport. The videos were widely shared across Facebook, Instagram and X. Using a reverse image search, AFP's fact-checkers found that the clips were originally posted by a TikTok account that produces AI-generated content. There has been a "surge in generative AI misinformation, specifically related to the Iran-Israel conflict," Ken Jon Miyachi, founder of the Austin-based firm BitMindAI, told AFP. "These tools are being leveraged to manipulate public perception, often amplifying divisive or misleading narratives with unprecedented scale and sophistication." GetReal Security, a U.S. company focused on detecting manipulated media including AI deepfakes, also identified a wave of fabricated videos related to the Israel-Iran conflict. The company linked the visually compelling videos, depicting apocalyptic scenes of war-damaged Israeli aircraft and buildings as well as Iranian missiles mounted on a trailer, to Google's Veo 3 AI generator, known for hyper-realistic visuals. The Veo watermark is visible at the bottom of an online video posted by the news outlet Tehran Times, which claims to show "the moment an Iranian missile" struck Tel Aviv. "It is no surprise that as generative-AI tools continue to improve in photo-realism, they are being misused to spread misinformation and sow confusion," said Hany Farid, the co-founder of GetReal Security and a professor at the University of California, Berkeley. Farid offered one tip to spot such deepfakes: the Veo 3 videos were normally eight seconds in length or a combination of clips of a similar duration. "This eight-second limit obviously doesn't prove a video is fake, but should be a good reason to give you pause and fact-check before you re-share," he said. The falsehoods are not confined to social media. Disinformation watchdog NewsGuard has identified 51 websites that have advanced more than a dozen false claims ranging from AI-generated photos purporting to show mass destruction in Tel Aviv to fabricated reports of Iran capturing Israeli pilots. Sources spreading these false narratives include Iranian military-linked Telegram channels and state media sources affiliated with the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), sanctioned by the US Treasury Department, NewsGuard said. "We're seeing a flood of false claims and ordinary Iranians appear to be the core targeted audience," McKenzie Sadeghi, a researcher with NewsGuard, told AFP. Sadeghi described Iranian citizens as "trapped in a sealed information environment," where state media outlets dominate in a chaotic attempt to "control the narrative." Iran itself claimed to be a victim of tech manipulation, with local media reporting that Israel briefly hacked a state television broadcast, airing footage of women's protests and urging people to take to the streets. Adding to the information chaos were online clips lifted from war-themed video games. AFP's fact-checkers identified one such clip posted on X, which falsely claimed to show an Israeli jet being shot down by Iran. The footage bore striking similarities to the military simulation game Arma 3. Israel's military has rejected Iranian media reports claiming its fighter jets were downed over Iran as "fake news." Chatbots such as xAI's Grok, which online users are increasingly turning to for instant fact-checking, falsely identified some of the manipulated visuals as real, researchers said. "This highlights a broader crisis in today's online information landscape: the erosion of trust in digital content," BitMindAI's Miyachi said. "There is an urgent need for better detection tools, media literacy, and platform accountability to safeguard the integrity of public discourse."

Accenture share price crashes 7% after Q3 results as drop in new bookings overshadow revenue beat
Accenture share price plunged more than 11% on Friday after the multinational IT services company announced its third quarter results. Accenture share price hit an intraday low of $273.19 apiece, falling over 11% on Friday, June 20. However, Accenture shares closed the session 6.86% lower at $285.37 on NYSE. Accenture reported an 8% year-on-year (YoY) revenue growth to $17.7 billion in the March-May 2025 quarter, beating Wall Street estimates of $17.30 billion, driven by growing demand for the consulting giant's AI-driven services from enterprise customers. Accenture said its for the quarter ended May 2025 reflects a foreign-exchange impact of approximately positive 0.5%. Profit per share of $3.49 also beat estimates of $3.32. Accenture reported a gross margin for the quarter at 32.9% against 33.4% in the year-ago period. The Ireland-headquartered firm raised the lower band of its full-year revenue growth outlook to 6-7% in local currency from 5-7% earlier. The firm expects revenues in the range of $17 billion to $17.6 billion in Q4 FY25. Accenture's total cash balance at the end of Q3 was $9.6 billion. The company operates on a September-August fiscal calendar. However, Accenture reported a second straight drop in quarterly new bookings, which overshadowed the company's revenue beat and an increase in its annual forecasts, sending its shares down more than 6%. Bookings - which represent future revenue secured through contracts - fell 6% to $19.70 billion in the third quarter, worse than the 3% decline in the previous quarter. Accenture said 30 clients recorded quarterly bookings of greater than $100 million, compared with 32 in the previous quarter. Generative AI bookings totaled about $1.5 billion. The Americas contributed the largest share of the total revenue, amounting to $8.97 billion. Following this, the EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) generated $6.23 billion, while the Asia-Pacific region accounted for $2.53 billion. The company increased its data and AI workforce to approximately 75,000 and looks to reach 80,000 by the end of FY26. Its global employee count at the end of the quarter stood at about 7,90,000. Accenture share price has dropped 10% in one month, and has declined 22% in the past six months. On a year-to-date (YTD) basis, Accenture stock price has declined 18%, while it is down nearly 7% in one year. However, Accenture shares have delivered 42% returns on five years.
