New AKG Centre building inaugurated

The Hindu23-04-2025

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Polit Bureau member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], inaugurated the new AKG Centre, headquarters of the party's State committee, here on Wednesday.
The nine-storey solar powered building, spread over 60,000 square feet, has facilities for the State committee offices, hall for press conferences, office rooms for Polit Bureau, Central committee and State committee members, studio, two floors underground for parking.
The new AKG centre is the second building in the State to have a Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA)-4 rating, endorsed by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The old AKG centre, inaugurated in 1979, will continue to house the party's research and studies centre, which organises the International Congress on Kerala Studies. The public meeting after the inauguration began with a minute's silence in memory of the victims of the terror attack in Pahalgam on Tuesday and Pope Francis.
Played key role
Mr. Vijayan, who credited former State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan for playing a key role in the construction of the new headquarters, said that the party has over the years overcome severe challenges to attain the position of strength that it currently occupies.
'Every time the Left Democratic Front (LDF) gained power, it has implemented programmes to ensure Kerala's progress. The governments that came in between tried to reverse these gains, but were prevented from doing so due to the strong resistance through mass protests. The LDF has over the past two tenures implemented projects including the National Highway, coastal and hill highways, which were thought to be impossible, in addition to unprecedented achievements in every sector,' said Mr. Vijayan.
He said that the right leaning mainstream media in the State has since the early days been running a campaign of lies and fake propaganda against the CPI(M). 'When the AKG centre came under attack, the media even claimed that CPI(M) workers were behind the attack. However, these claims were disproved when the real culprits were caught. They even tried to create a fake narrative on the inauguration of this new headquarters, claiming that an auspicious day was chosen for it. We chose it because this was the only available date which does not clash with our other commitments,' he said.
Third consecutive shot
CPI(M) general secretary M.A. Baby said that the left and the CPI(M) have to be strengthened in the country to put up resistance against the neo-fascist forces that are currently in control of the country. Kerala is expected to take the lead in giving a direction to the left forces. He expressed confidence that the LDF will be able to have a third consecutive shot at power if it continues to be vigilant in its ground work.
CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan, who presided over the function, said that the party has played a big role in the creation of modern Kerala. Leaders of the various constituent parties of the LDF, Ministers, MLAs, MPs and party workers from various walks of life were present at the inaugural ceremony.

None should think they can speak as they like: CM Pinarayi Vijayan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Apparently disapproving of CPM state secretary M V Govindan's bypoll-eve remarks related to CPM's association with the RSS at the time of Emergency, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan issued a stern warning against loose talk in front of the mike. The strong words from the party's most senior politburo member came at a review meeting on Sunday, with CPM state committee and district secretariat members in attendance, ahead of the local body elections. The reprimand came at the end of his speech. 'No one should think they can say anything as they like in the next six months,' Pinarayi said while looking back at Govindan who was seated on the dais. However, speaking after the chief minister, Govindan never mentioned the criticism. Pinarayi also reminded the party leaders that CPM's stand against religious extremism has been accepted widely by the people. 'There is no need to cover up our open objection against parties like Jamaat-e-Islami, SDPI and the banned Popular Front of India. We have taken that stand withstanding much pressure. And it has been widely received, with acceptance from within the Muslim community. A section of the Muslim League has also objected to the UDF-Jamaat-e-Islami association. The CPM had openly declared that we don't want the extremist force's vote. Likewise, the Hindutva forces have also strengthened their activities. They have been carrying out their work around temples and believers. We should not view it as trivial,' he said. The chief minister also said that, in certain local bodies, there had been flaws on the part of officials and the ruling council. 'The LDF has a favourable situation politically. Hence, we should use it in favour of the LDF,' he added. Govindan, who presented the organisational report, pointed out that party workers have to visit houses and form committees at ward levels.

UP man held in Delhi in CPI(M) revival conspiracy case

Jun 23, 2025 07:48 AM IST The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a Mathura man who is said to be a key accused in a CPI (Maoist) revival conspiracy case, the agency said in a note on Sunday. The arrest was made during a search in Vishal Singh's West Delhi house, from where digital devices and other incriminating materials were also seized. (For representation) A senior NIA official said Singh, who was originally from U.P's Mathura, was a member of the banned CPI (Maoist) and had delivered a drone to leaders of the outfit in Chhakarbanda/Panchrukhiya forest area of Bihar to further its violent anti-national activities. He had imparted technical training to other cadres of CPI (Maoist) and had also attended meetings with its central committee members in the deep forests of Bihar in 2019. He said the case related to the terror organisation's conspiracy to re-energise its decrepit influence in the Northern Regional Bureau (NRB) area, comprising UP, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. He said the conspiracy involved the recruitment of cadres and strengthening of the organisation in the region through underground cadres working in urban areas, along with some Over Ground Workers (OGWs) operating in the guise of activists. The NIA, in August 2024, arrested one Ajay Singhal alias Aman, who was the in-charge of the CPI(M)'s State Organising Committee (SOC) in Haryana and Punjab, in the same case.
