
"Her life and leadership continue to inspire crores": PM Modi extends birthday wishes to President Murmu
New Delhi [India], June 20 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warmest birthday wishes to President Droupadi Murmu on Friday, praising her life, leadership, and dedication to the service of the nation.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister wrote, 'Warmest birthday wishes to Rashtrapati Ji. Her life and leadership continue to inspire crores of people across the country. Her unwavering commitment to public service, social justice and inclusive development are a beacon of hope and strength for everyone.'
In his message, PM Modi also lauded President Murmu's lifelong efforts to uplift the underprivileged. 'She has always worked to empower the poor and downtrodden. May she be blessed with a long and healthy life in service of the people,' he added.
Droupadi Murmu was sworn in as the 15th President of India on 25 July 2022. Previously, she was the Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021. She has devoted her life to empowering the downtrodden and the marginalised sections and deepening democratic values, according to the President of India website.
Born in a Santhali tribal family on 20 June 1958 at Uparbeda village, Mayurbhanj, Odisha, Murmu's early life was marked by hardships and struggle. On completion of primary education from the village school, she went to Bhubaneswar on her own initiative to continue her studies. She earned the degree of Bachelor of Arts from Ramadevi Women's College, Bhubaneswar and became the first woman from her village to receive college education.
From 1979 to 1983, Smt. Murmu served as a Junior Assistant in the Irrigation and Power Department, Government of Odisha. Later, she served as an honorary teacher at Sri Aurobindo Integral Education Centre, Rairangpur, from 1994 to 1997.
In 2000, Murmu was elected from the Rairangpur constituency as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Odisha and continued to hold the post till 2009, serving two terms. During this period, she served as Minister of State (Independent Charge), Department of Commerce and Transport in the Government of Odisha from March 6, 2000 to August 6, 2002 and as Minister of State (Independent Charge), Department of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development, Government of Odisha from August 6, 2002 to May 16, 2004. In both assignments, she introduced innovative initiatives and people-oriented measures.
She was also appointed a Member of various Committees including House Committees and Standing Committees of the Odisha Legislative Assembly. She also chaired some of the Committees.
With her rich administrative experience and thanks to her efforts to spread education in tribal societies, she carved a special identity for herself. For her services as a legislator, she was awarded the Pandit Nilkanth Das - Best Legislator Award in 2007 by the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
Murmu was appointed the Governor of Jharkhand on 18 May, 2015. She was the first woman tribal Governor of a tribal-majority State, and she received wide appreciation for upholding the values of the Constitution and supporting the rights of the tribal communities. She introduced reforms in examination and recruitment processes of the State Universities. She earned respect from leaders of all political parties for her statesmanship and adherence to democratic ethos. (ANI)

Earlier today, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nationwide Yoga day celebrations from Vishakapatnam, he urged the international community to embrace "inner peace" as a "global policy' and make yoga a collective global responsibility. "I would like to take this opportunity to urge the global community on this important occasion to let this International Yoga Day mark the beginning of Yoga for Humanity. Let this be the day when inner peace becomes a global policy, where yoga is embraced not just as a personal practice, but as a powerful tool for global partnership and unity. Let every country and every society make yoga a shared responsibility, a common contribution toward collective well-being," the Prime Minister said. The event was held along the scenic Visakhapatnam coastline, with Indian Navy ships stationed near the shore, adding to the grandeur of the celebration. PM Modi was joined by lakhs of yoga enthusiasts, residents, and dignitaries from Andhra Pradesh. Calling for a global mass movement through yoga, PM Modi said, "Come, let us all together make Yoga a mass movement. A movement that takes the world towards peace, health and harmony. Where every person starts the day with yoga and finds balance in life. Where every society is connected to yoga and free from stress. Where yoga becomes the medium to bind humanity together. And where Yoga For One Earth, One Health becomes a global resolution." Multiple other leaders, including Chief Ministers of various states, multiple Union Ministers also participated in the Yoga day programs across the country.

Operation Sindhu: 517 Indian nationals returned to India from Iran so far, says MEA
Nearly 517 Indian nationals have so far returned to India from Iran under Operation Sindhu , Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Saturday. A special evacuation flight from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, landed in Delhi in the early hours of June 21, bringing home Indian nationals from Iran as part of Operation Sindhu. The ongoing evacuation exercise was launched by the Indian government following rising security risks due to the conflict between Iran and Israel. Jaiswal confirmed the latest arrival in a post on X. 'Operation Sindhu continues. A special evacuation flight from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, landed in New Delhi at 0300 hrs on 21st June, bringing Indians from Iran home. With this, so far 517 Indian nationals from Iran have returned home under Operation Sindhu,' he posted. We stayed indoors for some time. We then moved to Mashhad. Soon Mashhad came under attack. We then contacted the Indian government. The action was so swift that we cannot express our gratitude in words. I want to thank Modi ji and Yogi ji who made all the arrangements for us,' Naqvi was quoted as saying by ANI. Kulsum, another Indian national who returned safely, said the situation was tense in Iran. 'The situation in Iran is not good. We were very worried. The government helped us a lot and brought us back home safely,' she said while speaking to ANI. Earlier, the first batch of evacuees, 110 Indian students, including 90 from Jammu and Kashmir, was transported out of northern Iran to Armenia, before being flown to New Delhi. Most of the students were enrolled at Urmia Medical University . The evacuation continues as the Israel-Iran conflict entered its ninth day on Saturday. The fighting began on June 13 when Israel launched airstrikes targeting Iranian military and nuclear installations in what it called 'Operation Rising Lion.' In response, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched 'Operation True Promise 3,' targeting Israeli energy infrastructure with missiles and drones. (With ANI inputs)
