Drivers of Citroen C3s and DS3s have been ordered to stop driving their cars over a potentially dangerous airbag fault. The vehicles affected are second-generation Citroen C3s produced from 2009 to 2016 and first-generation DS3s manufactured from 2016 to 2019.
The French firm has issued a 'Stop-Drive' order after a recent report stated that a woman sustained fatal injuries caused by an airbag in a 2014 Citroen C3 in Reims, France, last year. As a result, around 82,000 C3 and DS3 models have been removed from the road across France.
The vehicles use Takata airbag systems, which could be faulty. However, Stellantis UK said that there were no reported incidents of faults in the UK, but it has decided to take action regardless.

The car manufacturer in a recent statement said: 'Stellantis UK is mobilising its full network of suppliers, retailers and manufacturing plant to support this action to ensure the fastest, safest and most convenient solution for each customer. Stellantis remains fully committed to acting swiftly, transparently, and responsibly in addressing this issue.'
Owners will be contacted by letter, or they can check whether their car is affected by using the VIN check tool on Citroen's website.

Six of the little motors were destroyed during the filming of the chase scene. This is the only one of the six to ever be offered up for sale at auction. A month long online bidding war has been started for the little car with bids already reaching $120,000 or £89,000. It's hoped that the motor will fetch a price of about $500,000 or £370,000 by the time bidding closes on July 17. The iconic chase scene featuring the little 2CV sees Moore jump into the passenger seat of Melina Havelock's (Carole Bouquet) Citroen to escape the gun fire of villain Hector Gonzalez's goons. In the ensuing chaos of the chase the 2CV ends up flipping onto its roof to avoid a bus. It's then flipped back onto four wheels by Bond and some helpful locals before fleeing once again. The small 2CV is eventually rolled down a hill by one of the pursuing Peugeot's, ending up partially crushed before being reversed off towards a sharp turn by 007. In the iconic chase scene Bond takes the tiny Citroen off-road through olive groves and says the famous line: "I love a drive in the country, don't you?" All three surviving 2CVs received a few dents and scrapes with the model up for auction boasting a missing headlight and a fair few scratches in the paintwork. The models used for filming were fitted with more powerful engines not available in standard 2CVs. No roll cage was fitted to the one up for auction as it was used specifically for driving shots with Moore and Bouquet. Moore gave a Top Gear interview stating the little French hatchback was his favourite Bond car writing later in his memoir about the fun he had driving the small motor. The three surviving motors were split up after filming with one sold off to a UK collector. One was taken by Citroen for the firm's private collection and the third, which is now up for auction, was sent to a recycling facility in Paris. The famous little car was rescued from the scrapyard and sold to its current owner in 2004. It has been fitted with replacement yellow doors and boot lid, yellow roof, and seats. The car is being sold for display purposes only and is not considered to be roadworthy. This includes both the Citroën DS 3 and later examples of the supermini - sold solely under the DS brand. It comes a week after a driver died after the Takata airbag in her 2014 Citroën C3 exploded. The 37-year-old woman in Reims, France, suffered fatal injuries - prompting the recall of the popular car model. France's Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot called for all C3 and DS3 vehicles with Takata airbags to be taken off the road on Tuesday. French carmaker Citroën had already recalled the affected cars - replacing airbags in just under 70 percent of the 690,000 vehicles. But Tabarot said the company's response had been 'unacceptable and scandalous' and had 'not matched the scale of the risk'. Citroën's new director Xavier Chardon later told AFP the brand would be placing all affected cars across Europe under a "stop-drive" order "to speed up repairs". Affected C3 and DS 3 owners will be informed by letter, said Stellantis. The company is urging owners to check their address and contact details with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) are up to date - so they can be reached without delay. Stellantis UK has urged owners of affected vehicles to register for an airbag repair immediately. This can be done online or by calling either the company's recall helpline or Citroën customer care. Stellantis said it is 'mobilising its full network of suppliers, retailers and manufacturing plants' to ensure the repairs take place as quickly as possible. It added: 'Stellantis remains fully committed to acting swiftly, transparently, and responsibly in addressing this issue.' Faulty Takata airbags were responsible for the largest vehicle recall in history. Taking place in 2017, the recall affected over 100 million vehicles worldwide across multiple car brands - including Honda, Toyota, BMW, Ford, Nissan and Stellantis. The airbags, manufactured by Japanese company Takata Corporation, were found to have defective inflators that could explode with excessive force during deployment. It comes as numerous other car models with Takata airbags - sold between 2001 and 2018 - have been urged not to use their vehicles. These include models such as the Toyota Yaris, Toyota Corolla, Mercedes A-Class II, and the Mercedes C-Class II and III. The new announcement came in April as at least 29 airbag-related incident have been recorded in France - including 17 deaths - since 2016. Meanwhile, Ford is recalling over a million cars after discovering a software glitch that could increase the risk of a crash. The recall affects 1,075,299 vehicles across the UK and worldwide. The problem involves rear view cameras freezing or failing to display properly when the vehicle is put into reverse. The American National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed the fault, warning: 'A frozen or missing rearview camera image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.' Ford has acknowledged the issue, confirming that there have been no reported injuries linked to the fault so far.
