Tommy Fleetwood has touching moment with wife after crushing $3.6 million Travelers Championship finish
This was the other side of a thrilling moment for Keegan Bradley.
While Bradley celebrated a home-area win at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut with 'U-S-A' chants serenading the Ryder Cup captain, Tommy Fleetwood left the 18th green after another heartbreaking near-miss at a PGA Tour event.
Fleetwood was seen embracing his wife, Clare, after he bogeyed 18 to allow Bradley to steal the win with a clutch birdie putt.

Fleetwood, 34, now has 42 career top-10s without a victory on the PGA Tour as he continues to come up short in the biggest moments.
'I'm upset now. I'm angry. When it calms down, I'll look at things I did well, look at the things I can learn from …,' the Englishman told reporters afterward. 'I hadn't been in this position all year, so it's been a while, felt like I did a lot of good things, but there are things I can definitely do better. I have to do better.'
Fleetwood had a three-stroke lead heading into Sunday, but bogeyed three of the first four holes to open the door for Bradley and Russell Henley.

Fleetwood still held a one-shot lead at TPC River Highlands heading into the final hole and drilled his driver down the middle of the fairway.
After some club choice indecision, Fleetwood left his approach just short of the green. Bradley then hit a brilliant approach five feet short of the hole, and Henley holed out for birdie to move one shot off the lead.

Fleetwood left his first putt just shy of Bradley's mark, then missed his putt on the right side. Bradley, a Vermont native and St. John's grad, dramatically drilled his putt for the win.

It was the final signature event of the season, and Bradley earned $3.6 million with the win. Fleetwood and Henley got $1.76 million each for their second-place tie.

'The stupid thing to do would be to make this a hindrance to what you do going forward,' Fleetwood said. 'I obviously played great, I put myself in a great position, I was leading the tournament for 71 holes. I just want to make sure I can put myself in this position as soon as possible again and try and correct what I did this time… There's just no point in making it a negative for the future.'
Bradley's win adds more intrigue to his Ryder Cup situation, with calls growing for him to select himself as a member of the 12-player American squad for the September showdown with Europe at Bethpage Black.

He is currently in ninth place in the standings, with six players automatically qualifying for the team and the other six being the captain's choices.
'This changes the story a little bit,' Bradley, 39, said. 'I never would have thought about playing if I hadn't won. This definitely opens the door to play. I don't know if I'm going to do it or not, but I certainly have to take a pretty hard look at what's best for the team.'

Dominican prosecutors in Wander Franco trial seek 5-year prison sentence
Associated Press PUERTO PLATA, Dominican Republic (AP) — Dominican prosecutors requested on Monday that suspended Tampa Bay Rays player Wander Franco, who faces charges of sexual abuse involving a girl who was 14 years old at the time of the alleged crimes, be sentenced to five years in prison. The prosecutors said in court there is sufficient evidence to prove Franco had a relationship with the minor for four months and that he transferred large sums of money to the minor's mother to consent to the illegal relationship. The prosecutors also requested the minor's mother be sentenced to 10 years in prison, arguing she sexually trafficked her daughter. In a previous hearing, prosecutors described the evidence presented as 'convincing' and 'compelling.' Documents that prosecutors presented to the judge last year and were viewed by The Associated Press alleged that Franco, through his mother Yudelka Aybar, transferred 1 million pesos ($17,000) to the mother of the minor on Jan. 5, 2023, to consent to purported abuse. Franco was in his third major league season when his career was halted in August 2023. He agreed to an 11-year, $182 million contract in November 2021. He is currently on Major League Baseball's restricted list after initially being placed on administrative leave. ___ AP MLB: recommended

Evans 'work in progress' after fine Eastbourne win
Dan Evans will compete in the men's singles at Wimbledon after being given a wildcard [Getty Images] Britain's Dan Evans says he is "the most confident I have been on grass for a long time" after sealing his second win over a top-50 player in as many weeks. The 35-year-old, playing as a wildcard entry at Eastbourne, beat world number 49 Miomir Kecmanovic 3-6 6-4 6-4 in two hours and nine minutes. Advertisement It provides further encouragement for the former British number one, who recently regained his place in the world's top 200 and has been given a Wimbledon wildcard. After beating world number 13 Francis Tiafoe at Queen's last week, Evans followed that up with a hard-fought victory over Serbia's Kecmanovic in the south-coast sunshine. "In whatever time I have left it is a work in progress," Evans said of his recent performances. "Sometimes it takes time. I have been battling away to get levels on court, but this is the most confident I have been on grass for a long time." Advertisement Kecmanovic broke Evans twice in the 39-minute first set, but the Briton hit back at the start of the second, and celebrated with a massive fist pump. Evans raised his game in the second set, getting 80% of his first serves in compared with 63% in the first and recording four aces. After being denied three set points, he took the fourth to force a decider. He needed treatment to his right foot before third set commenced, but then broke Kecmanovic in the first game with a timely stroke of luck - the ball catching the net cord and dropping dead over the other side as the Serb could only look on exasperated. Both men were below their best in the decider exchanging four successive breaks of serve, however Evans eventually held his nerve to serve out the match. Advertisement Ultimately he was more consistent than his higher-ranked opponent - Kecmanovic hit 33 winners to Evans' 22, but the Serb's 42 unforced errors were almost double the number made by the Briton. Evans will play American second seed Tommy Paul in the next round. It was good news for the Britons in the women's singles too, as UK number five Francesca Jones beat Belgium's Greet Minnen 6-4 7-5. Fonseca claims first win on grass Earlier at Eastbourne, highly rated Brazilian teenager Joao Fonseca claimed his first ATP Tour win on grass by beating Zizou Bergs of Belgium in three sets. Fonseca, 18, recovered from a bruising tie-break defeat in the opening set to claim nine consecutive games on his way to beating Bergs 6-7 6-0 6-3 in two hours and seven minutes. Advertisement The hype is continuing around the youngster labelled Brazil's newest sporting superstar. Fonseca, ranked a career-high 57th in the world, attracted global attention by beating Andrey Rublev at the Australian Open in January and has admirers including Novak Djokovic. He will have another chance to test himself against the world's best in the second round at Eastbourne, where he will face reigning champion and top seed Taylor Fritz. "I'm very happy to win my first match on grass," Fonseca said after his victory. "Eastbourne is such a nice place. "In the second set, he was in trouble and I was more confident. In the third we were both nervous, so I just needed to focus on my serve. Advertisement "Playing Fritz is good experience, and the crowd is good - I see some Brazilian shirts, which is really nice." The first set lasted 66 minutes and was dominated by the serve without a single break point until the tie-break, which Bergs won 10-8. However the Belgian's level significantly dropped in the second set as Fonseca raced to 6-0 in 24 minutes, scoring 25 points to Bergs' eight. Bergs briefly halted Fonseca's momentum in the deciding set, but a perfectly measured half-volley forehand dink across court moved the teenager 4-2 ahead before he served out the match.

So what did Josh Shapiro actually say about state money for stadiums? (We've seen the video)
The Associated Press made a mess on Sunday. And we've spent plenty of time today cleaning it up. It started when the AP pushed a story to umpteen platforms regarding comments from Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro about the availability, or not, of state money for stadium projects. We saw the headline on the NFL page, we read the story, and we posted something that accurately conveyed the substance of the AP reporting. Unfortunately, the substance of the reporting — that Shapiro said state money would not be available — was substantively erroneous. In our follow-up item, it wasn't clear what had happened because the AP simply changed its story without acknowledging the prior version or explaining the reason for the revision. The truth is that their reporter flat-out whiffed. Here's the transcript, as provided by Shapiro's office and as revised based on the raw video of the interaction. AP reporter: 'When the Sixers were pursuing their new arena, you said that you were not in favor of using state money to build the new arena.' Shapiro: 'Correct.' AP reporter: 'The Eagles lease is up in 2032. [Owner] Jeffrey Lurie has floated the idea that possibly there'll be a new football stadium in the complex as well. Is federal — is state money off the table for that as well?' Shapiro: 'Well, I'm not going to get into the specifics of any of our conversations here in this setting. I will tell you that we want to make sure that the Steelers, we want to make sure the Eagles, and all of our pro teams have outstanding places to play, that are welcoming for fans, that generate revenue for the economy, just like the good folks here at Pocono do. 'But we also need to be really careful about utilizing state tax dollars, particularly at a time where we're seeing the likeliness of massive federal cuts that are going to knock half a million people off of their health care. A hundred and forty thousand are going to lose food assistance. I got 25 rural hospitals that will likely shutter if these federal plans go forward. 'And so I'm very worried about the overall budget. I'm very worried about the overall economic situation given the federal cuts and so you want to balance investing in tourism, investing in sports, investing in great arenas and facilities with making sure that you're also requesting those dollars in the things that Pennsylvanians need most. So it's always a balance. We've got really great communication with Jeffrey Lurie and with [Steelers owner] Art Rooney and we're going to continue to dialogue with them about what they need and what's possible.' So that's what was asked, and that's what was answered. Shapiro never said state money won't be available. That said, based on his broader response, it sounds as if it won't be easy to shake state dollars from the tree. But he absolutely did not say state money is off the table.
