INE Security Alert: Continuous CVE Practice Closes Critical Gap Between Vulnerability Alerts and Effective Defense
CARY, N.C., May 14, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- INE Security, a global leader in hands-on cybersecurity training and certifications, today highlighted how ongoing real-world practice with the latest CVEs (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures) is essential for transforming security teams from reactive to proactive defenders.
With over 26,000 new CVEs documented in the past year, security teams are drowning in vulnerability alerts while facing exploit windows that have compressed to hours in many cases.
'Reading CVE bulletins is not the same as knowing how to stop the attack,' said Dara Warn, CEO at INE Security. 'Our Skill Dive platform gives practitioners hands-on experience with real vulnerabilities in contained environments, cutting incident response times when these same issues hit production. This practical approach delivers far more value than traditional security certifications alone.'
Skill Dive is INE Security's risk-free technical environment featuring exclusive labs not found in learning paths and courses. Skill Dive's Vulnerabilities Lab Collection offers a continuously updated library of labs specifically designed to provide hands-on practice with actual CVEs, allowing security practitioners, including those preparing for pentester certifications, to experience both the exploitation and mitigation of current real-world threats in a safe environment.
CVEs: From Bulletin to Defense
CVEs are the standard identifiers for known vulnerabilities, but many security teams struggle to implement effective mitigations at scale, even those with Sec+ and other entry-level certifications.
Common challenges include:
Practice Today's Threats. Prevent Tomorrow's Breaches.
INE Security's Skill Dive Vulnerabilities Lab Collection delivers:
'When a critical CVE drops, you don't have time to theorize,' said Tracy Wallace, Director of Content at INE Security. 'Teams with hands-on practice respond significantly faster because they've seen similar attack patterns before. Log4Shell (CVE-2021-44228) was a perfect example – practitioners who had experience with JNDI injection attacks were able to implement effective mitigations within hours, while others took days or even weeks to fully remediate.'
Real Benefits for Security Teams
Skill Dive delivers immediate advantages for practitioners:
SecOps teams, security analysts, and IT admins get exactly what certification courses miss: hands-on practice with real-world vulnerabilities.
'Security professionals who regularly drill on current vulnerabilities become exponentially more valuable to their organizations,' said Wallace. 'The best defenders understand both the attack and defense sides of the equation.'
High-Impact CVEs in the Skill Dive Collection
The platform features hands-on labs for the most actively exploited vulnerabilities in enterprise environments, including:
'We continuously track which vulnerabilities are most actively exploited,' said Wallace. 'Our collection prioritizes CVEs with the highest real-world impact, not just theoretical severity ratings.'
Proactive Security Through Deliberate Practice
The Skill Dive approach includes:
Recent lab additions include other top-exploited vulnerabilities such as Cacti Import Packages RCE (CVE-2024-25641), Gradio Path Traversal (CVE-2024-1561), Calibre Arbitrary File Read (CVE-2024-6781), Graylog Information Exposure (CVE-2024-24824), and Navidrome SQL Injection (CVE-2024-47062).
'Security teams that regularly practice with new vulnerabilities stop more breaches, period,' said Wallace. 'Practice transforms defense from constant firefighting into strategic advantage.'

CHAUDHRI: How businesses can stay ahead of workplace issues
My origin story as a business owner started in 2021 when I launched my own firm – Workly Law. With some savings I created a website, registered a business number and opened a trust account. I rented a very small private office in a co-working space. I was also a very new mom operating on my then seven-month-old child's erratic sleep schedule. Then, I hired my first employee; a sharp lawyer, newly called to the bar. Even though I was an employment lawyer myself, I had a lot to learn about how to grow my business while also creating a workplace that could retain talent and grow. I drafted my own employment contracts and then considered my own workplace policies. How would I manage sick time, remote work requests and vacations? Also, there were a slew of mandatory policies I had to roll out just to be legally compliant. CHAUDHRI: Terminations can be hard to fight – even for the powerful CHAUDHRI: Multinational corporations beware – one size does not fit all CHAUDHRI: Alleging cause requires hard evidence I recall this period as one of mild frenzy. We had to grow our footprint in the marketplace, retain new clients and hire lawyers. Any business owner will agree that creating a good workplace is not something that springs up organically. It's more like a finicky rose bush. It needs watering, tending to, and sometimes a little pruning. Do this with discipline and something starts to blossom. As time goes on, I have supported more and more employers to help navigate the legal challenges in their workplaces. This year, with my team, we created a 2025 employer guide. Our guide breaks down key employer obligations like the following: Changes to the Employment Standards Act – On a very regular basis, the Ontario Employment Standards Act is updated with new legal obligations that employers are required to comply with on an immediate basis. Our guide sets a framework for what employers need to do to be legally compliant in 2025. The right way to manage a sick leave – The law has changed on what documentation employers can seek to support an employee medical leave. We have set out best practices for employers to follow. The legal implications of remote work – Employers are increasingly interested in how to return employees to the office while retaining as much of your workforce as possible. Key clauses you need in every employment agreement – From strong termination clauses to confidentiality agreements, our guide lays out what every employer should consider when hiring a new employee. It has been a challenge but also a thrilling experience to put what I've learned as an employment lawyer and a business owner into a document that can help other businesses. Like anything, it will evolve as I learn more and as the world of employment law evolves. Being a business owner is a high privilege, but it is one that is steeped obligation. Business owners are the guardians of the livelihoods of their workers. We have to try, as best we can, to get it right. Have a workplace problem? Maybe I can help! A First-Time Buyer Was Shocked When Their Escrow Shot Up. Turns Out, A Fixed Rate Doesn't Protect You From Tax And Insurance Hikes
Benzinga and Yahoo Finance LLC may earn commission or revenue on some items through the links below. When a Reddit user and their husband bought a home in 2021, they felt confident with their $1,250 monthly mortgage payment. It was a fixed-rate loan, and they had budgeted carefully. But that confidence quickly turned to confusion when their payment jumped to $1,600. At first, the couple thought their private mortgage insurance had increased. 'We've been in contact with our lender and they said the only way to get off the PMI is to get a home appraisal above $331K,' the person wrote in the r/FirstTimeHomeBuyer subreddit recently. So, her husband paid $500 for an appraisal that did meet the target value. But the lender said it was invalid because the appraiser wasn't on their approved list. They were told they'd need to pay $650 for another appraisal through the lender's channels. Don't Miss: Maker of the $60,000 foldable home has 3 factory buildings, 600+ houses built, and big plans to solve housing — Peter Thiel turned $1,700 into $5 billion—now accredited investors are eyeing this software company with similar breakout potential. Learn how you can Redditors were quick to point out what was really going on. 'Your PMI does not go up. Only your escrow for insurance and taxes can go up,' one top commenter said. Another added, 'Interagency appraisal guidelines prohibit financial institutions from using appraisals ordered directly by the borrower.' The original poster later confirmed what many had suspected: 'I asked our mortgage lender to send our last few escrow reports and it was in fact our hazard insurance causing the increase, not our PMI like we originally thought.' The takeaway was this: even with a fixed interest rate, escrow payments can shift drastically because of tax reassessments and insurance hikes. 'Be prepared for your escrow—property taxes and insurance—to go up even if you got a 'fixed rate' mortgage,' the OP warned. Trending: , which provides access to a pool of short-term loans backed by residential real estate with just a $100 minimum. Many commenters shared similar stories. One person said their mortgage payment rose by $800 due to an insurance lapse and property tax increase. Others explained how taxes often spike after a property changes hands, since previous owners may have had exemptions or lower assessments. 'My homeowners insurance went from $1,400 to $2,800 over a three-year span,' one person said. 'I shopped and found insurance with the same coverage for $1,300 again, only to be told they wouldn't cover the house due to them feeling the roof was old. I was forced to spend $12,000 for a new roof in 30 days.'The good news is that there are options. Homeowners can shop around for better insurance rates, dispute property tax assessments, and ask lenders for a broker price opinion instead of a full appraisal to remove PMI. 'I requested the PMI to be removed and was given two options,' one person explained. 'I went with the BPO and it was only $140. Ten days later, my PMI was removed.' Others suggested reviewing escrow statements annually and proactively paying shortages to avoid ballooning payments. 'If you pay the $1200 shortfall, you will owe $100 more a month. If you don't pay it off all at once, you will owe $200 more a month because you're paying the shortfall plus the extra $100 monthly,' one commenter warned. As for the original poster, she ended the thread with a lesson for others: 'As much as some people like to act like home buying and everything involved is intuitive and common sense, it's really not. So I hope you all can learn from our boo boo.' Read Next: Maximize saving for your retirement and cut down on taxes: . Offering Travellers More Direct Flight Options to Australia HONG KONG, June 21, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Hong Kong Airlines' inaugural flight between Hong Kong and Sydney, Australia, departed yesterday, making it the second local airline to operate this route and providing greater travel options for business, leisure, and transit passengers. To mark this new milestone in its network expansion, Hong Kong Airlines held celebratory events at both Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) and Sydney Airport (SYD). Prior to departure, a launch ceremony was held at the boarding gate of the HKIA. The event was attended by distinguished guests, including Mr Jeff Sun, President of Hong Kong Airlines; Mr Ian McGraw from the Australian Consulate-General in Hong Kong; Ms Carmen Tam and Ms Vivien Yuen from Tourism Australia; Ms Jennifer Tung from Destination New South Wales; and Mr Ricky Chong from Airport Authority Hong Kong. The guests interacted with passengers and presented them with bespoke souvenirs to commemorate the historic occasion. During the event, Hong Kong Airlines President Mr Jeff Sun stated: "As a full-service local carrier, the launch of our Sydney service marks a significant step in our transformation to an international airline. Sydney is not only a popular destination for leisure and business travel but also one of Australia's most vital economic hubs. The expansion of the bilateral traffic rights agreement allows us to offer more choice to travellers in both cities, strengthening the connection between them." He added, "While Hong Kong Airlines may be a younger brand in the mature Australian market, we are endeavouring in our commitment to providing quality service. We operate this route with our Airbus A330 aircraft, featuring comfortable business and economy class cabins, and strive to deliver a passenger-centric in-flight experience through attentive service and fine dining for our long-haul customers." Sydney Airport CEO Mr Scott Charlton said: "We're proud to welcome Hong Kong Airlines to Sydney as our 52nd airline partner with its strong reputation for service excellence, efficiency and value. This inaugural service comes on the back of the first expansion in bilateral air traffic rights between Australia and Hong Kong in 19 years and we thank the Albanese Federal Government for its role in enabling this important agreement, which reflects the strength of our longstanding cultural and economic ties." NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper, said: "Hong Kong is a priority international market for NSW, with incoming travellers contributing substantially to the NSW visitor economy. The Minns Labor Government has made it very clear; we want to grow our visitor economy and the best way to do this is by increasing airline capacity and unlocking new international markets for NSW. We've set our sights on increasing the state's aviation capacity by 8.5 million seats, and this new Hong Kong route will complement other new routes we're securing as we work towards landing this goal." Mr Wang Yu, Consul General of People's Republic of China (Sydney), said: "As the second Hong Kong-based airline to operate the Hong Kong–Sydney route, Hong Kong Airlines not only provides a convenient new option for traveling between China and Australia, but also contributes to enhanced exchanges among students, tourists, business professionals and friends from all walks of life. This new service will strengthen Hong Kong and Sydney's role as vital gateways for the flow of people and goods, injecting fresh momentum into the economic and cultural ties between China and Australia. Its launch will also attract more international travelers to transit through Hong Kong or Sydney, further strengthening both cities' positions as global aviation hubs and creating new opportunities for trade and investment. Looking ahead, the Consulate-General of China in Sydney will continue to encourage and support airlines from both China and Australia in restoring or launching new routes based on the principle of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. We believe that Hong Kong Airlines will continuously enhance its service quality and showcase a good corporate image." Also in attendance at the Sydney welcome ceremony were representatives from the Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Sydney, Destination NSW and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Sydney). This further underscores Hong Kong Airlines' commitment and contribution to the aviation industry's recovery and long-term development. In addition to the new routes, the Company also increased the frequency of services on multiple routes to cater to the summer travel demand. This includes the resumption of seasonal flights to the Maldives and an increase in flights to Da Nang to two per day. Additionally, flights to Shanghai Pudong will be increased to four per day, while services to Hangzhou and Nanjing will become twice day.
