Dua Lipa 'blown away' as she becomes emotional during sold-out Wembley show

EXCLUSIVE: Dua Lipa was overcome with emotion as she took to the stage for her first sold-out concert at Wembley Stadium on Friday, admitting it had always been her dream Dua Lipa was overcome with emotion as she fulfilled her ultimate dream. The global mega-star has had a fast rise to fame since she first emerged in the music industry, and she's showing no signs of slowing down. On Friday, she headlined Wembley Stadium for the first time on the first of two nights at the home of English football, before moving on to Anfield in Liverpool. But the British and Albanian star couldn't believe what was happening as she addressed the sold-out crowd who'd flocked to north-west London to see her perform. ‌ Fans had been camping out at the stadium since Thursday, hoping to get to the very front row to see their idol deliver her biggest hits. Addressing the crowd, Dua said: "It means the absolute world to me that you're here tonight. It feels really special to be here today." ‌ The Levitating songstress continued: "It's been ten years since our first ever London show, which happened to be about 350 people, and I dreamt of a night like this that I get to be in front of 70,000 people. I'm so, so blown away." Dua, who joins a small club of female solo artists to headline the stadium, reflected on her career, admitting she believes one song changed her life, after she was signed to her management and record label. That song was Hotter Than Hell, which was fitting as the UK enjoyed its hottest day of the year. But Dua made sure to pull out all the stops for her first night at the iconic venue with a special guest appearance from Jamiroquai. Dua and Jamiroquai performed an incredible duet of the 1996 hit, Virtual Insanity, for her Radical Optimism tour. Vocalist Jay Kay was rocking a classic black hat with a purple trim and a white fringe jacket for the surprise performance, along with purple trousers. Fans were over the moon with the shock guest and rushed to social media to share their excitement, with one user revealing they "wish" they were at the concert in London to witness the duet. The Londoner joins Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Adele, P!NK and Rihanna as one of the few women to have headlined the stadium. She performed her anthems, including Training Season, One Kiss, Levitating, Physical, Electricity, New Rules, Be the One, Don't Start Now and Houdini. ‌ Dua was just 17 when she was first discovered by her long-term manager, Ben Mawson, who said the singer has "it all." Speaking to Music Week in 2020, he revealed: "Dua told me she aspired to be Madonna when I met her, when she was 17, and there was something about the way she said it that made me believe her! "It was about her personality, her charisma, her competitiveness and her drive, and that came across. Dua's got it all, so she's unlimited potential." The singer rose to fame with her 2016 hit Be The One followed by her 2017 break-up anthem, New Rules. Since then, she has won several Brit Awards and three Grammys and headlined Glastonbury Festival last year shortly after the release of her third studio album Radical Optimism, which hit number one on the UK albums chart. Her 2020 Future Nostalgia album also reached number one, while her debut self-titled album, Dua Lipa, reached number three. She is the youngest person to feature on this year's Sunday Times 40 Under 40 Rich List, making her one of the wealthiest musicians in the UK. The singer was recently named the most played artist across radio, TV and public places in the UK for a second time by music licensing company Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL).

Dua Lipa follows in her idol Madonna's footsteps to headline career defining gig at Wembley Stadium

SINGER Dua Lipa has emulated her idol Madonna by playing Wembley Stadium at the age of 29. The superstar last night kicked off the first of two sold-out gigs at the 90,000-capacity venue. 3 It caps a meteoric rise for Dua, whose first UK gig was at a 375-people capacity venue in Hackney nine years ago. She is the same age as Madonna was when she headlined Wembley in 1987 as part of her Who's That Girl Tour. Just five other women — Beyonce, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Adele and Pink — have headlined the venue. Only Swift and Rihanna were younger than Dua, both performing there aged 28. Adele was also 29, tying with Dua as the youngest-ever Brit. An insider told The Sun: 'Playing Wembley is a dream come true for Dua and to sell out both nights feels incredible. She's not even at the peak yet and has so much more she wants to achieve. 'To be headlining stadiums with just three albums under her belt proves how influential her music has been. Her world tour has been a huge success. She's on cloud nine.' Fans had been camping outside in North West London since Thursday to see her on the Radical Optimism Tour. Last night, Dua opened with 2024 hit Training Season, and went on to perform her four UK No 1 singles New Rules, One Kiss, Cold Heart and Dance The Night. Dua's family and actor fiancé Callum Turner were also there. She was 17 when she was discovered by former manager Ben Mawson — telling him she aspired to be in the same league as Madonna. He said: 'There was something about the way she said it that made me believe her. 'It was about her personality, her charisma, her competitiveness and her drive — and that came across. Dua's got it all.' Madonna appeared on a 2020 remix of her song Levitating. Dua recalled: 'I was talking with my manager and I was like, 'You know who'd sound really good on this? Madonna.' 'And he said, 'We could send it to her and see if she likes it.' She responded and she was so down. 'I couldn't believe that she wanted to do this record with me. I'm such a fan. It was really exciting.' 3

Sabrina Carpenter breaks British icon's album chart record amid controversy

Sabrina Carpenter has left a forever mark on the UK charts, breaking the record for the longest consecutive streak in the top five album chart. Her hit album, Short N' Sweet, has now spent a massive 43 consecutive weeks at the top, according to the Official Charts Company. The 26-year-old singer's achievement officially topples Ed Sheeran from the top spot. Sheeran's 2021 album, =, had a record-setting 42-week stay in the top five, a claim which he managed to hold onto until Sabrina's album came along. Oasis have stormed back into the UK albums chart, climbing to number two with their greatest hits collection Time Flies… 1994–2009, as anticipation builds for their upcoming Oasis Live '25 reunion tour. The Britpop icons, who disbanded in 2009, officially confirmed their return in August 2024. The long-awaited tour kicks off in Cardiff this July, with major shows lined up in Manchester, London, Edinburgh, and Dublin. Topping the UK albums chart for the first time this week is musician James Marriott, whose debut album Don't Tell The Dog takes the number one spot. The news comes just days after Sabrina revealed the cover for her upcoming album Man's Best Friend, which sparked enormous backlash. The image, which depicts Carpenter on her knees, in a short black dress and heels, holding the leg of a suited man as he yanks her hair, is shocking many fans. On Instagram, @edersoaresx wrote, 'Lol this cover art is so disgusting. As a fan I don't like it :(.' Reddit user Potential-Friend-133 said, 'The first image is very triggering for me. I hate this. A LOT.' More Trending Others have argued that the album cover is satirical or even a moment of political commentary. On the singles chart, Alex Warren reclaims the top spot with Ordinary landing at number one, followed by Sabrina Carpenter's latest hit Manchild in second place. Ravyn Lenae's Love Me Not holds steady at number three, while Chappell Roan's Pink Pony Club remains firmly at number four. Got a story?
