LUTA polls: Anitya Gaurav elected LU teachers' body president, Ram Milan gen secy

Anitya Gaurav of Ancient Indian history department was elected as the new president in the Lucknow University Teachers' Association (LUTA) elections held on Saturday, said Prof Dinesh Kumar, the returning officer for the polls. Ram Milan of the commerce department was elected the new LUTA general secretary, he added.
Gaurav, who was the LUTA general secretary when the teachers' body polls were last held in 2023, defeated Vineet Kumar Verma by 22 votes. Verma, a mathematics department faculty member, is also a former LUTA president and general secretary.
Anitya Gaurav polled 197 votes while Verma managed 175. The new LUTA general secretary Ram Milan got 196 votes, defeating philosophy department's Rajendra Kumar Verma who polled 171 votes. As many as 405 faculty members were voters in the LUTA polls and 389 votes were cast, said returning officer Prof Dinesh Kumar.
Meanwhile, CR Gautam, SAA Jafri and Monisha Banerjee won the post of vice president. Akash Asthana, Ashok Kumar and Karuna Shankar Kanaujia will be the new joint secretaries of the LU teachers' body, while Dinesh Yadav is the new treasurer.
Sanjay Medhavi defeated Priya to become the representative of management sciences, while Annamali Senthil Kumar, Gaurav Singh and Shyamlesh Kumar Tiwari were elected as arts representatives unopposed.
Bharat Kumar, Sangeeta Srivastava and Suchit Swaroop were elected as science representatives unopposed. Others who have won the elections unopposed are Chandrakant Kushwaha, Sanjay Singh Yadav, Alok Kumar and Niharika as commerce, education, fine arts and law representatives respectively.
'I will fulfil the promises I made in my manifesto, including getting promotion committees in the remaining departments, cashless health insurance for dependent children, getting the age limit for cashless health insurance increased to 65 and upto ₹5 lakh, the working conditions of state and central universities to be similar, PhD increments, getting the bar for retirement raised to 65 years. We will begin working as soon as possible with the permission of the election returning officer,' Gaurav said.

Tribal villagers happy for sanctioning road

Paderu (ASR district): Tribal residents of Kalyanagummi village in Gumma Panchayat, Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district, expressed heartfelt gratitude to district Collector AS Dinesh Kumar for approving the long-pending road construction between Kalyanagummi and Neredlapudi village in Devarapalli mandal. The approval was granted during a special district-level past committee meeting chaired by the Collector on Friday, bringing cheer to the residents, who had long struggled with poor connectivity. In a touching gesture, villagers stood in a line with folded hands, offering their thanks to the Collector and Tribal Welfare Engineering Officer Venu Gopal Rao for addressing their decades-old plea. Until now, the villagers of Kalyanagummi had to take a lengthy and inconvenient route via Damaku in Devarapalli mandal of Vizianagaram district to reach nearby Gummu village. Recognising their plight, former ITDA PO Abhishek had sanctioned Rs One crore in July 2024 for gravel road construction. However, due to pending forest department clearances, the project had not commenced. Following protests from the villagers over the delay, the Collector convened an urgent meeting with the forest and other concerned departments to resolve the issue. With the necessary permissions now granted, construction is expected to begin soon. CPM district committee member K Govind Rao and tribal rights leader Rajarao also thanked the officials for understanding the difficulties faced by the tribal population and for taking timely action to approve the project.

MUDA case: ED attaches 92 immovable properties worth Rs 100 cr in state

Bengaluru: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally attached 92 immovable properties having market value of approximately Rs 100 crore under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, in connection with Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case in which Karnataka Chief Minister is named as accused number one. The official statement released by the ED on Tuesday stated, 'It is pertinent to mention here that the attachment of these 92 MUDA sites is in continuation to the previous attachment of 160 MUDA sites having a market value of approximately Rs 300 crore. The cumulative market value of Proceeds of Crime provisionally attached so far is approximately Rs 400 crore.' The ED stated that the attached properties are registered in the name of an entity, such as a housing cooperative society and individuals who are front/dummy for influential persons, including MUDA officials. The agency initiated an investigation on the basis of an FIR registered by the Lokayuktha Police, Mysuru under various sections of IPC, 1860 and Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and others, who is the incumbent Chief Minister of Karnataka, the ED stated. The ED investigation revealed a large-scale scam in allotment of MUDA sites by flouting various statutes and government orders/ guidelines, and by other fraudulent means. The role of ex-MUDA commissioners, including GT Dinesh Kumar, has emerged as instrumental in illegal allotment of compensation sites to ineligible entities/individuals, the ED evidence with respect to obtaining bribes for making illegal allotments in the form of cash, bank transfer, movable/ immovable properties has been gathered during the course of the investigation, the ED said. The modus operandi for making illegal allotment involved identification of ineligible beneficiaries and making allotment using fake documents/incomplete documents in direct violation of government orders, and also backdating of allotment letters in some cases, the ED stated. The gratification received for making these illegal allotments was routed through a co-operative society and bank accounts of the relatives/associates of the officers playing a key role in the allotment process. The gratification thus received was further used to purchase some of these illegally allotted MUDA sites in the name of relatives of MUDA officers, the ED investigation is in progress.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally attached 92 properties worth ₹100 crore in connection with the alleged Mysore Urban Development Authority (Muda) land allotment scam, taking the total value of seized assets in the case to ₹400 crore. The central agency said in a statement on Tuesday that the attached assets were registered under the names of housing cooperative societies and individuals who allegedly acted as 'fronts' or dummy owners for influential persons, including Muda officials. The ED probe is based on an FIR registered by the Mysore branch of the Lokayukta Police under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is among those named in the complaint. Scam involved backdated letters, dummy owners According to the ED, the scam involved large-scale irregularities in the allotment of Muda sites, executed through violations of legal procedures, government orders, and fraudulent means. 'The role of ex-Muda commissioners including GT Dinesh Kumar has emerged as instrumental in illegal allotment of compensation sites to ineligible entities/individuals,' the ED said. Investigators found that in many instances, site allotment letters were backdated to give legitimacy to illegal transactions. Bribes were allegedly paid to officials to facilitate the process, routed both through cash and banking channels involving cooperative societies and the accounts of associates and family members of Muda officials. Funds allegedly recycled to conceal illegal gains In several cases, the proceeds from these bribes were used to repurchase the illegally allotted sites in the names of relatives of those involved in the scam, effectively creating a paper trail that ED officials have now traced. This is the second round of major attachments in the case. Earlier, the ED had attached 160 sites valued at approximately ₹300 crore. Further investigation is ongoing, the agency said.
